    Yup - my 2020 MT09 gave me this exact problem - constantly wanted to go fast on it, flick it about, overtake everything, the grip was sensational, it was all effortless…. But that isn’t all I want from motorcycling. And I wouldn’t mind watching my kids grow up.

    I had a car t-bone me on my old MT-09. Was a hoot up until that point. Torn pec, detached triceps, broken hand. Oh what fun that was.

      @@simonthegreat543 The risk level of motorcycling varies between being murderously dangerous and something like an adventure sport, all depending on you and how you approach it. There's plenty of good advice available about how to stay on the right side of that scale👍

    I've had an MT-10 for several years now. Hands down my favourite bike I've ever owned. There hasn't been any other bike that puts such a big smile on my face. It's comfortable, doubles as a bit of a tourer, and behaves exactly as i expect it to. Absolutely love the thing.

    • @starseeddeluxe
      @starseeddeluxe 7 місяців тому +2

      The MT-09 has the triple which is such an unusual engine. Yamaha didn't ruin their triple like Triumph did with their Tiger models. Triumph ruined their own engine by making it more "lumpy" and rough and coarse by changing the crank journal offset to a "T-Plane" crank. Triple engines have a dramatically different feeling (I've never ridden one). But they seem to be more linear with a more flat torque curve, not as much screaming top end.

    Great review as usual Andy, thanks. Well done on the seat height/inside leg measurement relationship. I'm also 5'8" but only 28.5" inseam, so many bikes are just too tall for comfort. It is a critical item when making a buying decision. I also found the Yamaha seats to be very firm, seems to be a common feature across the range.

      I took the new mt09 out a few days ago. A peach of a bike. I’m the same measures as yourself and found it good to ride. Had a 22 plate mt09…usual story.. shouldn’t have sold it. A cracking bike. I can see myself going back to it. I have a bmw f900xr at present. This bikes engine doesn’t look at the mt. 😀

    I'm riding the little brother, MT03. It's a nice twin, and makes a nice sound. Ironman is Tony Stark. The MT09 would be what I'd graduate to after the 03. I like a nice triple, but a twin is just lovely! I'm a little chap at 5ft 5-and-a-bit inches, with an inseam of just about 30 inches. I do have challenges getting my feet on the ground on some of the taller bikes.

    Another great video Andy, if you do the same test route all the time for the various bikes could you give us some sort of indication of the tank range/mpg you do real world without trying to get the best out of the bike. As we all know that Yamaha could say that the MT09 does let’s say 50 mpg but real world I am getting 38mpg and add that to the review for more information about the bike 😎✊🏻👍🏻

    I just swapped in my Superduke for one, I really like it! I like the Street Triple too, but I owned a 675 for a long time so I wanted to try something different. I think I'll eventually slap some nicer suspension on it, but otherwise I have zero complaints.

    Going to look at the 09 and 07 auto to replace my NC700DCT and the size is the main issue as my inseam is 29 inch and I do like to flat foot so I may have to wait for the new MT07 Y-AMT no spring chicken so it is not the speed that matters but being able to manage it in the Lake district and touring Scotland's lesser used routes. I have a tour planned for next year on my Rebel1100 but if I get a MT09 I would use that but not a MT07 due to 4 days camping gear to carry.

    I have an SP being delivered this week, trading my 2019 R6 for it. It is the perfect bike for the road, makes the R6 feel like a torture rack, also feels much faster on the road. The only thing that bothers me about the MT-09 is the display, it looks like an afterthought. This will also be my first vehicle that doesn’t have an analogue rev counter and I don’t know how I feel about that.

    I was on the look for a naked triple last year, tried the new Triumph 765R, didn’t like the clocks or the smaller tank.
    Did like the 2017 model with a nice TFT and a proper sized fuel tank, saved 3k with only 3,200 miles on the clock.
    If this bike had been out last year, I’d now be a Yamaha owner, tons better looking bike than before and all the tech thrown in.
    It will be interesting to see the long term review, could you give the average MPG you get on the test bikes please Andy ?

    I love the MT range, had two late 07’s but seeing how appealing they now are to the chavvy thieves I’d worry about leaving one parked anywhere in public. Quite often my bikes are left outside a hotel or a public car park on trips and I’d worry it would be stolen

    Lovely bike, was looking at them at the dealership on the weekend. One thing that irritates me about it is the exhaust system. I think it's a shame how from new they seem to have that rusty tarnish all over and especially on the welds.
