Rear projection has been used in Hollywood since 1930. It’s a fantastic way to open up the universe in-camera. Remember, though, that Hollywood also dressed the set for its actors. Showing a beach? Add some sand and a palm tree. Miniatures made for doll houses and train sets can also be added for additional realism.
awesome advices, i will follow them
thanks a lot
These are pretty good! They're quite impressive and some of those dino's faces were priceless!
The foreground lighting in the first images didn't matched the background lighting well. But these two were AWESOME! (my favourites!)

The stormtrooper images were nicely composed too, and the rest that followed it.
Happy to see another toy photoshoot.
Welldone Matthieu! 😊 👍
Toy photography is awesome
Excellent video. I now have some ideas for fun things to try this winter with my camera gear. Thanks..
Spectacular! Thanks
I love toy photography but hate the getting down on the ground to shoot !! This is brilliant ! I would love to know where to find the backgrounds though please ?
Honestly one of the best tips videos on toy photography I’ve ever seen. Thanks for these.
Thanks!
Amazing work and thank you for the HOW TO and great ideas to take my photos to another level.. THANK YOU..
Happy to help!
Always great content! Thanks for the tips
You did it again Mathieu! Simple yet beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Cheers!
I cannot lie that's very creative how u use your computer for backgrounds never thought of that before amazing
Thank you! 😊
Thank you for the inspiration and ideas.
I’m a subscriber now. Clear cut easy to follow videos. Thank you.
Great tutorial video 👏😎👍🔥🔥🔥
Dude. You're amazing.
Great Video. Thanks!
Wonderful tips, these give me a lot of inspiration to reach the next step on my toy photos. Merci!
I'm so glad!
You're a star Mathieu! A simple and effective idea. I think I'll give this a go myself. Also congratulations on being featured in that magazine! I would get a copy myself if there was an english version :-( damn my lack of education!
Definitely doing this over the weekend! Thanks
Posted my attempt on my Instagram jekeyes
Thanks for producing this video. What websites do you recommend searching for background images?
👍 nice work.
Funny and beautiful. Very simple too! Well done.
Glad you like it!
Amazing work! What is the brightness level you usually use on your lighting cube? Thanks
Clever!
Welldone.
so great content !
Love it
My thoughts went into the realms of Mandalorian: making a scene in a 3d program like blender and render out the left, right, top and background. Add more (cheap) screens and there goes you led lights, not needed anymore. Plus solid results!
Great job, wonderful idea too!
Awesome
Amazing
Wow, you're extremely creative!
Wow, thank you!
wow, It's come very realistic, Thanks you sir
Very creative and well executed. Thanks for sharing these techniques.
Thanks for watching!
@@MathieuStern what type of transparent support did you use?
Cool!
Thanks for the great idea. Reminds me of my taking photo of X-wing against a handpainted starry back ground with backlight almost 4o years ago, This is much easier
Perfect! i should try that also
Thank you! I was thinking so hard on how to make a beach background when I could've just put my tablet behind it lol
No problem!
Why not more views ??? it's awesome
The photo of the Alien @1:56 I call it "Mind blown" :)
I really like the idea to make "all edits" in the actual camera shoot, huge bonus using a vintage lens of course !
Do you ever use macro extenders on standard lenses ?
Great video, thank you. Whenever I do a screen shot of a computer screen I get lots of weird color banding.. even on a 5k iMac...what the secret to getting a clean screen shot? A particular shutter speed?
Good question.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
where do you get your backgrounds for the photography they are amazing
How does this not have a million views?
Nice
Cool, inspiring stuff! I'll definitely be trying this with some of my toy collection. One question, how did you deal with reflections in the monitor?
Take 2 different shots, 1 for background as a plate and remove reflection in post. 2nd alternative is getting it out of camera. Play with angle of reflection and move light around
Thanks for sharing this! Any advice to all of us rookies that don't have a macro lens?
try to find some diopter, it's cheaper than a macro lens and it will let you come very close
Hey, what camera do you use?
Will it work for my laptop? I've been trying to find good backgrounds to use..
Good
How do i know if the image has copyright or not? Also is there a good website to find them or just google images
Where can I get a smoke machine like the one your using in this vid?
3:56 Most awkward place to put a dinosaur
What did you use for the transparent base or where did you find it?
A simple frame glass from the $ store
Great idea….
This Really makes you want to learn photoshop and photo shooting, doesn't it?
Backgrounds are great but is it possible to have a clear, sharp one instead of the blurred ones?
close your apperture if you want the background to be sharp
Thank you! This is very helpful but how do you get the screen to be big? I can’t figure out how to do it
you need to shoot wiht a telephoto lens like a 90mm or 100mm
@@MathieuStern ok thabks
what is that smoke machine with the long tube you used?
I added a list of the gear I Used in the description
Need those wallpaer links plz🥶🥶🥶🥶
I just want to know...after you take all these amazing photos, what do you do with them? I know of the art but always wanted to know ... what can you do with the photos? Nice work Mathieu.
You post them online for some random strangers to validate your art and your life choices, then everyone forget about them for 6 month until some obscure photography website post your photos again in an article about toy photography then if you are lucky some book publisher or magazine will use one of your photo in their journal ... and you start all over again for the next video :))
@@MathieuStern lol...oh ok... can a person make a profit from this type of artwork? Our indie filmmakers would like to see this type of work. Stop by our facebook page sometime and post your stuff. facebook.com/indiefilmscreenings/
@@MathieuStern LOL. You summed it up perfectly.
Iv been wanting to share my toy images but some look like they are drawn after editing. Im worried about copyright laws, but if it is a picture of a toy that i own, i dont see how that could be a copyright issue. But it is confusing 🤔
So interesting video ! Unfortunately, only 3600 views ... UA-cam is not logic
STOP MAKING ME WANT TO DO THINGS!!!!
NEVER !!! :))
impressive... got the lens, got the toys, just need a good monitor, mine is too small =(
How big is your TV? I bet it will work
TV is a good suggestion.
That camera is 2 grand on Amazon…damn
