I Love Love your videos! I grew up in a cabin in the woods, my grandma cooked on a wood cookstove in the cold months. I was homeschooled there and my papa had a big garden that he taught me how to plant and tend to. We had Bible study there at home weekly with friends. Your videos feel like home to me ❤
Omgosh that dough washcloth! I want to rip my hair out with the dough stuck on my hands and sponges! The sponge daddy is awesome but I’ll try that as well. You’ve inspired me to begin my sourdough journey which is going amazing. You’ve inspired my inner hippy mama so much so that my children are in ahhh. They’re wondering where this new mother came from. My eldest daughter messaged me last night and asked me if I wanted to start my own bakery with her. This is a relationship that has suffered much over the years as I grew up with her. I was very very young and made a lot of mistakes but to hear her seeing the changes in me; makes my mama heart happy. I have a large family and have always wished to be the mom I feel I was born to be. Unfortunately, I had to work full time out of our home and provide for all six of my children. When I turned 40 something changed…I decided that I don’t care anymore about status and career as much as I do my children’s hearts and that’s legacy. I began with little changes and I’ve caught momentum. Cooking mostly from scratch. Homeschooling. All while still working out of the home. It can be done mamas. Pray. Ask God to give you desires of your heart. He’s so faithful. Even living in a big city in SoCal, I’m committed to bringing into my home a slower pace. We all have to start somewhere and that somewhere is right where you’re at. I share your channel on a lot of other homestead/homeschool channels as I truly admire you and your approach. Your channel will take off. Just keep plugging away. You’ll see the fruit of your labor ❤

Oh my goodness, we are so alike... I just cooked a turkey last night that I bought the end of last year (bought several that were marked done). I like taking a half of a stick of butter and letting it come to room temp and mash sage, rosemary, thyme, chives (dried or fresh) in with the butter and then push all of the herbed butter under the skin of breast, wings, and legs. Put a little avocado oil and salt and pepper over the top of the turkey and make sure I use one lemon, one apple, and one onion all cut and placed into cavity. I don't do anything else. I forget about it. I start check temp of meat about 13 min per pound. I find that it is done some where about 14-16 min per pound. Let it set out for 20 min covered and it never fails. Its amazing every time. A dough washcloth, WHAT!!! Its a joke in our home about Otitis mess. I named my start Otitis and the Kids call "him" their messy brother. And because Otitis is the youngest child in our home they think that we need to work on his habit of being more tidy. LOL My kids are so funny. Good to see all the new ideas. Thanks

Funny hearing you speak to growing up in a small family and having a large one to feed as an adult. I think on this often; there is definitely a learning curve!! It felt so lonely at times, especially because I didn’t have support from grandparents when I needed it most with my littles. Now that my oldest is 16, I finally feel like I’ve figured household management out for the most part. I hope to pass some things on to my kids in this department. I also truly look forward to when they become parents and I can help them however they need. I think homeschooling in itself gives them such an advantage because they are around the house all day actively learning and passively absorbing what it takes to run a home.❤
I did the opposite LOL....grew up in a large family & had a small one. And now, as the kids grow up its getting smaller LOL & I can not for the life of me cook LESS. I am struggling with food waste on a magnitude never before seen in my house. Seems like no one is 'home' to eat dinner anymore & I can't figure out how to manage things. weird stage of life. And then just about the time I think it will just be hubby & I for dinner, both kids come rolling in & I haven't planned for that either🤣😂
I grew up in a large family, but meals are something my mom struggled with (including teaching us how), so it's been a steep learning curve! I didn't make lasting progress until I hired a kitchen coach. Everyone take notes! The equipment tips she gives are huge! Upgrade the size and quality of your equipment to make batch making easier ;)
I almost NEVER see a 'return for my labors', but I have stopped looking for one. Because the return won't be here & now. And sometimes it is OTHERS that get my 'return' & I just am unaware. I have had a few very powerful insight moments recently with a stranger that I have befriended thru a charitable action....how MY actions have truly set things in motion for someone ELSE & how much it matters that I stay committed to certain activities that I do to help others. Every once in awhile I feel like God lifts the veil just a crack for me & it keeps me going! Nothing that I do is for me anyways...Everything I do should be to bring Glory to God in the Highest & Peace to His People on Earth. As long as I am doing that, then I am doing what God wants! Your videos really inspire me & give me ideas & fun. I love them! That is a return for your labors🥰 and then I take all of that & pass it on the next person and there is my return!
Something I have done with leftover beef roast...and I felt like I was really taking a chance trying it, but I mashed and shredded it (potatoes and veggies and all with the meat) and added taco seasoning, spiced it up a bit and used it for fajitas
I will soon be living in an unfinished home as well. I am grateful though because it will be a step up from the RV we’ve been living in while building our home. I am so grateful that my husband knows how to do all of these things because I don’t but I can take care of preparing the food, growing food, and budgeting. Unfortunately right now since all our kids are grown but the youngest I am having to go back to work in IT (which was my career up until a couple years ago when we moved here). Thats ok though because I want my husband to focus on building our home and quit his job so the house foundation doesn’t sit with no progress because inflation ate up all our savings and we needed money. I’m grateful I know how to grow a garden, preserve our food, meal prep and live frugally right now when we need it. It’s a sacrifice I am willing to make for us and our retirement plan. I pray about this situation all the time. I am grateful we were each able to find a job to help us along on our journey. It’s going to be hard but God provides and helps me. Sometimes I feel resentment for the situation but then I remember that I have a home, a garden, food, a family and so many blessings. I hope to have the help and support I will need once I start my job. I will be working graveyard. 4 days a week. I think it’s going to be the best schedule for us and I’m grateful I was led to this job with such a schedule. Blessings to you.

just wanted to also say that I really appreciate how you talk about seasons. sometimes I watch you and think hokey smokes how does she do all of that (I know you achieve alot) and I compare myself - but I'm in the really little babies season with 6 children ages 9 and under and #7 in the oven so to speak - so just getting meals on the table feels like a victory at the moment. so then I was watching you and you explained about seasons - that there are seasons for things and all the comparison just flew out the window. so thank you for being so kind to remember to say that point about everyones got different lives - that you have still been able to keep memory of other seasons is quite something. Yes, there are seasons and the season with little children is so time and energy consuming. I will write it down as a request to talk about the family/friend/support circle. That was a very, very hard season, and it's when my journey here with Singing A New Song first started many years ago. I'm writing it down to talk about in my future video notes now. I have one of the hole filled washclothes too but I find things get stuck in it and it ends up smelling no matter how much I clean them, so I don't want them anymore haha. I mainly use Swedish biodegradable cloths. I have had one wisk my entire nearly twenty years of marriage and never had issues with it. I loved listening you trying to pronounce the French recipe hehe. Cute. It looked really good. Clam chowder though I really love! I love making roux. I made one for my meal yesterday.
Some of the netting ones are like that! I think it depends on the way they're made. I'm just getting into the Swedish ones, I like them so far but the ones I have are small, I'd like to find larger ones.
Pomme de terre is potato or apple of the earth. I learned it pronounced like Pom de tear (like tearing paper, not like crying). Everything looked yummy.
Too much crust?????????????? Whoever heard of such a thing🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I wish I could find a way to make a pie that was JUST crust lol - I am the queen of pie crust! I cook alot like you; cook up things simple (like roast a turkey) and then have that as ingredients to make meals out of all week. It is the best way to ease up menu/meal prep, gives the best inspiration, & saves tons of $$$$. I can literally throw dinner together in less than 30 minutes most nights. My family knows its gonna be good when I loudly proclaim, "I'm inventin' tonight"! LOL I get messages from my friend regularly that are like dinner panic messages. I keep trying to impress upon her the need for leftovers & reinventing. Plus, cooking MORE than you need for one meal so that you have ingredients to work with on a busy night. I grew up this way, so I don't know any other way of cooking & really use it to my advantage on our busy homestead/farm. But most 'modern' women grew up with mothers that 'cooked' a different thing each night & the family either eats it all up (cuz there is only enough for 1 serving per person) or tosses the leftovers!
Have you ever used some of your sourdough starter as a roux for your dishes to thicken them rather than flour? Another viewer mentioned it and I’m now very curious if it works.
Yes! I shared that in one of my other cooking videos a month or so ago. It's better than putting straight flour in because the starter is easier to digest!
I really want the same refrigerator but I am nervous about the size. We buy a lot of produce each week, not sure if it would be great for our family of 6?

My family is only four people and I cook a lot. Like they get fed. 😂 I love to cook though! It’s more than just a necessity to live it’s an art.
