Sad to see this game, from technical standpoint, it's solid, units are responsive, path finding is decent a.s.o. Gameplay could have been fixed with patches but the graphic design is just so anti-Warhammer40K, I can't believe this shit got past any dev meeting.
since im no fangay.. i actually found the artstyle quiet responsive and pretty good for a competitive rts game... the fangays themselves destroyed this game... this game could have been salvaged and turned into some good rts...

Lol its amazing to read some of these comments. The game was killed off a few years ago, and some of them still can't resist to come by and piss on it's corpse. I was a dow2 vet, so yeah i was upset about a few things, but my gawd the level of hate was pure insanity to me. In my humble meaningless opinion of course.

when I look back I still have fond memories of massive 3v3 multiplayer battles and absolute carnage. you can say what you like about this game But I had some truly good times in this game. I just wish they added the extra races and fixed some of the bugs, I also feel like the community never gave it a chance to reach its stride. it just makes me sad to look back on it like this
the modding community kept DOW going for a decade. DoW2 had a good competitive scene. DOW3 was such a shitshow even the devs backed off not even a year in. The community would have stood by this game.
I think that the devs should have kept with it, turn it from the halo reach of dawn of war into the, well halo reach of dawn of war. I think that the community would have stood by it if the Devs showed any interest whatsoever in the game

You know, I would love an RTS/FPS game like this, kinda like Natural Selection (but with better RTS component since Natural Selection's RTS mode really sucked). Would be amazing to be a Space Marine fighting alongside tanks, terminators and other things.
while not fps, Rise & Fall: Civilization at war does allow you to take full control of the hero characters you can use in the game while your army is doing other things, you're able to switch between the strategy mode so that you can relay stuff to your base and fighters (such as building new units or something) then you can go back to using the hero to help on the battle field in different ways. That said this is a 2006 game and i haven't seen many other games take this kind of mechanic and work with it. I too wish more games played like this.
The only thing this has on DOW 1 is graphics (and sound effects maybe), not that I like this style. DOW 1 is still super fun hardest mode. Action pack, grinding battles. I haven't touched DOW 3 after I finished the single player campaign.
I wouldn't even care of the reason why people hate this game and it's failure, I'm just glad that the building mechanic is back but the one thing that pisses me off is that they removed the fantastic cover system and replaced it with some barrier... The cover system was revolutionary to the RTS genre and they just threw it in the garbage. All they had to do was bring it back and add more faction and people would have enjoyed the game more.

Never got necron and might never get another 40k rts thanks to them
It looks like a nice gamr. Not everyone's cup of tea but isn't all games like that? Something i don't like though is that selected units have a blue aura around them. They should have just kept the colored circle on the base of the unit.

I rather have all the races from Dark Crusade than more units in 3 races Its what I fell in love with in the franchise, the variety of races that play in immensely different ways more than any other strategy game Now it's just another version of command and conquer Tiberium wars
Soulstorm and DoW2 was 2 very different games in play style, one macro and one micro heavy yet they done great with each style, giving me pleasure to play either of them... Take men of war two, company of heroes 1, dark crusade, gothic theme colors and shadows, mix and mash it all up, and you can have a successful Dawn of War game.

I just wish I could get into this game. I bought it pre order with so much hope. But it’s just not what anyone hoped it would be. We all expected a dow1 or 2 continuation. This game is a meat grinder of epic proportions. Just throw your forces at each other and watch your super heavy elites and global cooldowns grind through an entire army in seconds. Then lose your army to the enemy turrets, rebuild, repeat....matches took me at least an hour or more to do for a quick play. It’s not a bad game...but it’s not good enough for me to sink time into unfortunately. The soundtrack was great though!
if you look at this game with the mindset of an indie dev/fan made this game then it would've been a perfect score but since it is made from a AAA company...yeah well we get what we get lol I love DOW 3 but it could've been better especially the campaign vs Dark Crusade.

Can you elaborate on the moba elements? I just played DoW 1 for the first time (with expansions) and really loved it. Was looking into this game, but people seem to pan it citing that it added a bunch of moba stuff, but having never played a moba myself, I don't really know what they mean.

it's a decent 40k game, but it's no good dawn of war game, it looks so clean, so polished, but in a bad way. remeber those synch kills from dow 1? dow 1 and 2 felt darker grimmer bloodier, i like this game but it doesn't deserve to be called a dawn of war 3 game, if you get my point. it feels too moba, i mean 2 already led to this direction of gameplay, but at least the campaign was awesome in itself. it's a shame what the dawn of war franchise became, i wish they had released a dow 3 more similar to dow 1 and make this a standalone franchise. but well decisions were made, glad to see at least some people enjoy it, let's hope there will be a dow 4 one day and it will be a good game for everyone.

Lots of reasons. One of them is the somewhat cartoony style and disregard for Warhammer 40k lore. The developers were apparently looking to pull in the MOBA crowd, but at a time when people were getting bored of MOBAs (and the Battle Royale craze began). The game also didn't fare well upon release from a gameplay perspective. The previous entry in the series was very focused on tactical engagements, positioning and unit preservation, whereas this entry threw ALL that out of the window for the sake of having flashy, army-destroying super units.
look...publisher thought on this was: starcraft 2 is success, dota 2 is sucess, lol is success = so lets just take a skinbag of warhammer and put in all this "success" in it...and they totally ignored that fact that warhammer franchise is about heavy brutality of grim endless war on epic scale...at least it is in minds of million fans around the world...it is not just a "childish cartoon game" - it is heresy for fans...but not only fans who are core in here...most of other target audience is rts and moba players...and for them this game is neither rts neither moba - so devs fail here too...and it is not competetive - and another fail...and they waster like 6-9 years to make it...+cost of the game +ignorance on forums from devs +hype train crash = so shit tsunami errupted and devs just gave up... game is not bad...it is just not a warhammer, not a rts, not a moba, not a competetive and so = overpriced shit for too many people... for me - i wish to see xcom crossbreed with warhammer 40k...yes turnbased tactical strategy with building your base on orbit and fighting on lands

Ahhh it is, just is not what ppl was expecting from DOW3 and just 3playable races didnt help at all.
imo perspective, the biggerst gripe is the GAMEPLAY, I can ignore the graphics but the DOW 1 has better and enjoyable gameplay mechanics compared to dow3

If they just would have made Dawn of War 1 base building and economy with Dawn of War 2 graphics and realism, this game would have been perfect. But no, instead they go for half moba half strategy game wtf.
Can you elaborate on the moba elements? I just played DoW 1 for the first time (with expansions) and really loved it. Was looking into this game, but people seem to pan it citing that it added a bunch of moba stuff, but having never played a moba myself, I don't really know what they mean.

This really feels just like company of heroes. The interface/layout is too uncanny
DOW2 was made by the same people, so it pretty much is. Iron Harvest is made this way as well. It's the new standard in RTS
it's a decent 40k game, but it's no good dawn of war game, it looks so clean, so polished, but in a bad way. remeber those synch kills from dow 1? dow 1 and 2 felt darker grimmer bloodier, i like this game but it doesn't deserve to be called a dawn of war 3 game, if you get my point. it feels too moba, i mean 2 already led to this direction of gameplay, but at least the campaign was awesome in itself. it's a shame what the dawn of war franchise became, i wish they had released a dow 3 more similar to dow 1 and make this a standalone franchise. but well decisions were made, glad to see at least some people enjoy it, let's hope there will be a dow 4 one day and it will be a good game for everyone.

well spoken sir, since all of us really wanted to like the game. and there's another problem, we are in the age of Pre-Releases... ...where kids don't care about the product, they just need to record it... :/ they are willing to play so any crap and sometimes is better for views if its bad... ...very sad mentality...
and I almost forgot: the industry nowdays aim in games where kids can spend money in cosmetics. so if they don't get this public onto the game is a waste of time finishing the "Pre-Release" game... ...well... ...at least it's a good bussiness strategy.

@@derpyVfoxoX6 First of all, rts is a rather unpopular genre nowadays, second most of the fans of the saga, and thus their initial playerbase, wanted another dawn of war 2 but with better graphics not something new, so they started demending refunds and giving negative reviews scaring the new players.

well is kinda copy paste Star Craft Imperium(Terrans),Orcs(Zerg),Eldars(Protos), and just 3 playable races/factions. And thats isnt what WH40k fans was looking for. Plus all that moba look. Lots of reasons. One of them is the somewhat cartoony style and disregard for Warhammer 40k lore. The developers were apparently looking to pull in the MOBA crowd, but at a time when people were getting bored of MOBAs (and the Battle Royale craze began). The game also didn't fare well upon release from a gameplay perspective. The previous entry in the series was very focused on tactical engagements, positioning and unit preservation, whereas this entry threw ALL that out of the window for the sake of having flashy, army-destroying super units.
The voice acting is straight trash compared to the first two games. The killteam sounds so corny.

look...publisher thought on this was: starcraft 2 is success, dota 2 is sucess, lol is success = so lets just take a skinbag of warhammer and put in all this "success" in it...and they totally ignored that fact that warhammer franchise is about heavy brutality of grim endless war on epic scale...at least it is in minds of million fans around the world...it is not just a "childish cartoon game" - it is heresy for fans...but not only fans who are core in here...most of other target audience is rts and moba players...and for them this game is neither rts neither moba - so devs fail here too...and it is not competetive - and another fail...and they waster like 6-9 years to make it...+cost of the game +ignorance on forums from devs +hype train crash = so shit tsunami errupted and devs just gave up...
game is not bad...it is just not a warhammer, not a rts, not a moba, not a competetive and so = overpriced shit for too many people...
for me - i wish to see xcom crossbreed with warhammer 40k...yes turnbased tactical strategy with building your base on orbit and fighting on lands
there already are xcom type warhammer games, theres an old space hulk game that was like that, dont know if they continued it though.

well make it free to play and redesign some things, the game could be probably salvaged.... dow3 cant be shittier game than this new Iron Harvest.. makes me facepalm .
@@stevenmael space hulk is not an xcom type at all it is completely bland, it gets boring and insanely repatative, it is turn based, that is the only similarity it has with xcom
