  • I surveyed this property in a steep gated community. I was dealing with high winds for the majority of the survey, but we got it done. We got the customers immediate property done and surveyed some of the neighboring property as well. The customer wanted me to survey the rest of the adjoining property and you'll see that in a future upload.

You can draw a shapes or multiple point lines on the map….in the map view, click the “square” icon on the left menu and simply click the perimeter points of your property. You can also edit the point with the exact property boundary points if you wanted but for a deer survey we’d only wanna be that precise(so we don’t waste a lot of extra time) if we were doing a hunting club with 1000’s of acres.

His property is only 30 acres, but he has access to much more. So we surveyed about 150 acres in 1.5 hrs. I came back on a less windy night and did another 300ish acres in about the same time.

What are your temps set on for deer?

Are you're referring to isotherm settings?

yes, what are your isotherm settings?@@STRThermal

Turn isotherms off when it comes to wildlife/deer. I promise you this. In the video the deer were maximum of 55 degrees due to their insulation. A month ago that may have been 65. And the rocks nearby are also 55. So the isotherms will hurt you more than help you. The system(the Mavic 3T auto scaling color palette) will do better than any isotherm setting.

Thank you for your reply...another question(s). During this video you are dropping the pins on the ground. Is this correct? Also, I'm interested in knowing what your deliverable (survey) format looks like to the client.@@STRThermal

I teach and normally dropped my pins on the ground(momentarily switching to the map view to drop the pin at 0AGL instead of the drone position) but in this case in steep terrain the pins were gonna be floating in air anyway. Also for editing purposes much easier to drop in from the camera view(pin at aircraft position). Check out this video for more about pinpoints.

As for deliverables. I record everything, so I usually upload a full length(unedited for the most part) video for them to view. The public video is very edited for time. I create all the pins during the process, later I label them with the deer found, export the kml file(edit it leave only the pins for this customer) that he can upload into any mapping software he uses(huntstand, OnX, Google earth, etc)(I help w this process since not everyone can figure it out) and I give him the full count(does, bucks, total), as well as counts of any predators found. I keep saying I’m gonna do a video of this process.
