  • Just wanted to share some highlights from my recent trip to Xishuangbanna. It's this cool spot in China that's kind of off the beaten path. I spent the day exploring-from a really vibrant local market in the morning to some peaceful time at the beach later.
The market was packed with all kinds of food and crafts. I tried some amazing local snacks, and yeah, they were as good as they looked. Then I rented a moped, which was the perfect way to see the city. It's pretty wild how quickly the urban scenery changes to lush greenery.
The beach was super chill, a great place to relax after buzzing around all day. And I even got pulled into a dance with locals in the evening. Not my usual thing, but totally fun.
Check out the video to see it all go down. Hope you find it as cool as I did. Drop a comment if you’ve been here or it’s on your bucket list!

There are very nice beaches in China too. No need to venture to Thailand. There are a number of beautiful beaches in Hainan: Yalong Bay, Sanya Bay, etc. Pristine tropical landscapes featuring palm-fringed, white-sand beaches, crystal-clear water and lush rainforests that hide sleepy villages. Yup, in China.

"Xishuangbanna" is the Chinese transliteration of the Dai language. "Xishuang" means twelve, and "Banna" means an administrative unit that pays taxes to the emperor (literally translated as "twelve thousand rice fields"). Xishuangbanna was called Mengli in ancient times. After the Yuan Dynasty defeated the Song Dynasty, Yunnan became a province of China and the area around Mengli began to implement the chieftain system. In 1327 (Ming Dynasty), the local chieftain Zhao Kan Meng was granted the title of 宣慰使as the local official who reported to the emperor. In 1570, Zhao Kan Meng divided the area under his jurisdiction into 12 units in order to organize the taxes paid to the emperor, which was the origin of the name “Xishuangbanna”.

The Xishuangbanna Dai people and the Thais share common ancestry, maybe the Thais migrated to Thailand in the 10th century, replacing the Mon people there, and the Thais also changed their appearance, as many Thais believe this,This is recorded in ancient Chinese history, but need more genetic Molecular Anthropology proof it .Before the British rule, there existed the Thai Assam Kingdom In India Assam state

      Hey @user-qt5ub3dz7o,
Hahaha.Ridiculous! Xishuangbanna has always been part of China. The locals may share some customs with Laos, but that doesn't mean it ever belonged to Laos. And FYI, Laos was actually a vassal state of China in history.
The British never took Xishuangbanna when they colonized Burma. Saying "commie China took it in 1949" is pure nonsense.
