The government decided not to open the Emperor's tomb yet not just because of the mercury, but you see all those warriors were colored, and the surface faded when exposing to the sun, that's the main reason why the tomb is still remained untouched, no one could be sure that what's in it and what would happen when it's opened just like some other emperors's tombs in China.
The electronic tour guide in China is excellent. He can explain the historical content of your location based on GPS positioning, which is very detailed.
It was brilliant, definitely didn’t feel like I missed out on anything. Maybe for big groups the tour guide could be better but I was more than happy with the headset
@@ramblingbard yes, That place is really great!! But the difficulty of archaeology is too great, and probably the people of this century will not know the answer. Recently, there has been a salvage archaeological expedition by King Kaolie of Chu in China. He was even older than Qin Shi Huang and has an even older tradition. Archaeological work will be broadcasted live, and if you are interested, you can learn more.
I have 2-3ft terracotta warriors that are stationed at the front of my entryway. My thought is if these warriors were good enough to protect Emperor Qin, they are most certainly good enough to protect me and my home.
That’s good 👍 the statue will makes anyone who wants to break in pause their actions because he/she may think there is some one at the door inside the house
such a great video--super informative! A bit wild that it was only discovered about 50 years ago. Also, congrats on launching the merch store, I'm loving the designs, especially the "Sea the world" one!
Great video. I love your enthusiasm. I'm always very impressed by the cleanliness of such sites considering the thousands of visitors, excellent presentation, & pleasant "park" environment of Chinese tourist sites. I marvel that this was made about 2 1/4 thousand years ago, & pause to think how primitive we were in UK at that time.
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it :D It’s astonishing to think that the whole area was planned, built and then completely forgotten about .. even through Mongol invasions and warring kingdoms. Just sitting there under a field … Yeah the same when I think about Ireland. I of course have pride in all the ancient sites but when you compare to organised things like this it makes it a little harder 😂 Pre Christian, pre gaul, pre Viking, pre Americas. Mad stuff.
You missed Qin Bronze Chariots. I think you'd like the Sanxingdui, which you can put on the list next time. I prefer nature too, and your personality is more relatable to me than most travel vloggers. That's pretty extroverted behaviour to greet people when you meet them🤣 Looking forward to your new video!
The terracotta warriors and horses were colorful when they were unearthed, but then oxidized and faded in a very short period of time。 In the past, China's archaeological technology is so poor that it stopped excavation of the Terracotta Warriors in order to re-excavate them in the future when better archaeological technology becomes available
Lishan Garden is the core area of the Mausoleum of the First Emperor of Qin, which many tourists miss. The Crown of Bronze - Bronze Chariot and Horse Museum, the First Emperor's Underground Art Troupe - Hundred Opera Terracotta Figurines, and the First Emperor's Think Tank Team - Terracotta Civil Servants are all located here.
I am so glad to see your video, it is so relaxed and fun.Your videos have accumulated over a million views on Chinese website bilibili. Many Chinese audiences are looking forward to seeing you travel to more places.😆
Oh wow!! Didn’t realise it was that many 😮 thanks for letting me know! :D My next video will be my last public one from China, it’ll be up on Friday and I’ll stick around for some live questions with it too. After that I have maybe 3 or 4 more videos but I’m planning on keeping them for members (whenever UA-cam allows me to do that again…) Thanks for watching, so happy you enjoy them!!
You should visit Qin Shi Huang's gigantic tomb as well. You will find that just you and the emperor are there. It is an extremely quiet place for you to contemplate. I prefer his tomb to his underground army. Also, by deviating from the other UA-camrs, you will attract more viewers.
Awh dang! I didn’t even think of this… I wasn’t totally sure if I could visit it or not. I would loved to have visited but unfortunately I’m finishing up my trip here soon. I’ll save that for next time thank you for the info!!
I definitely recommend it, hopefully the video is enough but visiting in person is awesome. I was so surprised by how cool it feels. Still the smell of dirt and dust from the excavations.
I went there many years ago, but unfortunately I haven't got much to remember it by because my camera was stolen during the trip...... back when cameras and thieving were still a thing..... I'm giving away my age now
Sorry to hear that, that’s really unfortunate. Hopefully this video gave you some good memories to look back on though. It’s a wonderful place and while I caught a good bit on camera I actually spent *many* more hours just standing and admiring the work.
@@ramblingbard Yes, the archeologists are definitely still where I left them. I live in Beijing now, I probably should go and visit again, it's not that far.
Unfortunately I’ve only one more stop left on the itinerary but it’s the one I’ve been looking forward to most! I’ll keep it as a surprise for now though 😉
Were you there recently around end of May 2024? I am wondering how cold it was. It is such a huge and spectacular place. In addition to the terracotta warriors I also visited the nearby City Xi’An. There are also a lot to see and explore in that city. It’s a beautiful clean and modern city with lots of historical sites to see. China is just awesome. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy your trip there.
Yep! It was around 25c during the peak sun so it got pretty warm. Some of the days in Xi’an reached around 30 as well which for me is a little tough 😂 Xi’an is a really cool city too - I mistakingly walked the full wall thinking it was short but … it wasn’t haha.
Haha, the archaeologists still need to teach at universities and aren't always restoring artifacts in the tomb. And arranged terracotta warriors in the video are their restoration work, behind which various pieces of dirt pile up is what the tomb first looked like when it was dug up. 😂
It's not even the main tomb. The tomb is surrounded supposed by a lake of mercury. There isn't tech available to safety extracavate it. They already found traces of mercury in the ground.
I don’t think they’re slow, they need to be super careful. Once something’s destroyed it cannot be recovered. Maybe try to give them the benefit of the doubt they’re doing their best 🎉
@@ramblingbard Great. To be honest, you have attracted a lot of Chinese viewers. We all like you very much. I hope you can come to China again if you have the opportunity. I hope you can reach 10,000 UA-cam subscribers as soon as possible.

Hey! I ended up getting a China mobile SIM card when I first arrived. It’s pretty straightforward, just need to scan your passport and take some photos. My Swedish number didn’t work at all, completely unusable. I think the China mobile sim with something like 70gb a month was about €30 and was 5g almost everywhere. Hope that helps! Happy to answer any more if you’re stuck
As a Chinese, I can assure you that your assumption is correct. My advice is to save your time (and possibly money) by avoiding those 'auction houses' from now on, as they are not worth it at all.
Changing your title as " everyone warn me dont go to China" or similar, then your vedios will be showed to more people. That is the principle of YT. I am very glad to see you were more and more relaxed and found your own peace in the chaos. Enjoy your journey.
True! But I personally feel those are a little too aggressive with the naming. Maybe someday I’ll do one like that but it’ll be more of a “my thoughts” after visiting vs what I felt before. I definitely felt a lot more relaxed in the chaos here, not sure why maybe the excitement or just used to it 😂 Thank you for watching! 💚
Another excellent video! I enjoyed watching it. Thanks. You are right about this overpriced gift shops, I would stay away from those. The "Tourist Center" seems to be contracted out and run by some pushy merchants, who are distastefully extracting values from the cultural sites. On the other hand, it's just a hustle and people have to do it, as you are pushing out merch too, to a lesser degree.
Well it’s not just China. The overpriced statues exist in every country. I visited the coliseum ruin in Rome and Florence, Italy and wanted to buy a statue of David and some other Italian statues from these historical places. They were so overpriced for the small statues. I decided not to buy them even though I really loved the statues.
@@ramblingbardHmm, my experience when I went to see the Three Emporers and a Japanese exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts was a definite no, you can buy the book I was told, this was fine for the Three Emporers as there was a great book to accompany the exhibition but not so much for the Japanese one.
I guess it really depends on the museum but this is more an archaeological site than a museum really. We have the Book of Kells in Ireland which disallow photography but only because people cannot be trusted not to use the flash rather than copyright.

Absolutely amazing place! Couldn't help but wonder if it's frustrating for the archaeologists to have to dig so slowly, so carefully for so long
It's ok to be slow, archaeology is not tomb raiding. They need to extract as much information as accurately as possible from every bit they dig.
