I will always remember Sada as Kate Lawrence, a beautiful person and mother. As I revisit ‘Family’ as an adult, I am deeply touched by the episodes where Kate has insecurity issues and self doubt, a few times, just shy of panic attacks. I don’t recall this while watching as a child. Previously, I was so taken by Willie, whom I had a crush on, and Buddy, who was a kid around my age, (that had her very own tree fort) that parents Doug and Kate faded into the peripherals. Now, being an adult, I am surely consoled by the adult lives of the parents and the gyrations they encounter and how they handle them. (And the Lawrence house I just adore.). There is a specialness to this show and only the stone-hearted are blind to it’s moving depictions of the human condition at various life cycles and examples of family bonding, mistakes and beautiful parenting. What a delicious daydream it is to imagine having breakfast with the Lawrence’s, dinner in their dining room, lunch on their patio, or tea with Kate in her kitchen, et al. Lovely show that defies times ability to make it irrelevant.
I so love this show so much-they still show it on air tv and I've watched ea. episode a thousand times....Its just comforting hearing their voices while I'm in the kitchen in the morning preparing breakfast. I had to buy a vintage coffee percolator just like the one the Laurence's use in their kitchen , it sits on my vintage harvest gold stove top, just because it always makes me feel like I'm home and it makes me happy when I see it...
Who else is binging this show on Tubi these days? I wasn’t old enough to really appreciate this as a kid in the 70’s, and now I’m finally discovering it.
@@LoganLavery ...I quite agree! I watched the show in syndication during the summers of my youth in the 1980's. My mother watched during its heydey. I'm grateful to own Seasons 1-2 on DVD, and to continue viewing on UA-cam. Incidentally, I'm also a fan of The Big Valley.

Family was superb though, I watch episodes today and they are totally still relevant. How many other shows from the '70s could say that? None, I'm sure. Kate Lawrence was so wise and had some great lines that's for sure too!

I love Sada Thompson. I watched Family in the 70's and watching on TUBI over and over. Very realistic and so much better than what we are seeing on TV today. Sada was a fabulous actress in Family. May she Rest In Peace, lovely lady.
...She was well dressed in this appearance. Designer Noel Taylor fashioned her wardrobe for the show, and many of her personal and public appearances. Although staid and conservative, even for the time, Taylor made the most of Thompson's short and plumpish figure with flattering shirtwaist dresses and coats, wrap skirts, softly tailored blouses... and of course, very high-heels. 👍🏽💯😊

Back in the day when "Family" was on TV , I remember Ms. Thompson being called "matronly" or "plump" in the press. Compared to today's overweight society, she was graceful and statuesque. I also noticed her superb carriage when she came to the stage . . . a veteran stage actress.
I loved it when she played "Kay" (housekeeper temporarily taking over for Alice) on the Brady Bunch. Best line from that episode: "That was Alice. I'm Kay"
Really sad, the series didn’t run longer. It definitely had all the makings. I get it. We can really appreciate these great tv shows now! Times have definitely changed.
"Family" began with six episodes in the spring of 1976, and then ran for four full seasons, until 1980. Those first six episodes and the first season came out on DVD a while back, and I bought them. Unfortunately, the other seasons were never released to my knowledge. I guess the first ones didn't sell enough copies.
