I like to fool myself that I can remember as if it was yesterday, the time I did a tankful of laps around Donington. But in reality it was a million years and more than half a lifetime ago: 1978 to precise. The circuit wasn’t even complete. There were muddy tyre tracks across Redgate (which I brushed off on the race line with a big broom I found in the pits), and on the outside of McLean’s, the curbs hadn’t been put in yet, there was just a 12” wide and 18” deep trench!!
My bike was a gorgeous candy orange, nicely tuned Honda CB250G5 with Avon Roadrunners and Girling rear shocks.
We will never have those times again.
    Ride safe.
