    I agree with you that requiring a member of the species/group to sit on the nest to generate eggs would be an improvement. But I don't see why it would have to be a female. The point of sitting on eggs is just to keep them warm/safe and there's many real life species where males care for the eggs or the parents switch off responsibilities. There's no reason for this to be a gender locked mechanic and a lot of realism servers would probably take issue with it being gender locked.

    thankfully devs opened a channel related to feedback regarding nesting . meaning a lot of ppl have been asking to actually implement the need of a male and female to make a nest which i kinda agree but also is nice to see that even underwater creatures will be able to nest since underwater nesting can seem fun . devs also mentioned ( main owner btw) since i asked if modded dinos will be able to do nesting and surprisingly they will be able to do so yeah , guess we'll wait and see once nesting is out . tho i'm kinda mixed because some creatures don't lay eggs so that's something that needs to be figured out in the future

    See, inherently I do like the nesting systems layout in POT, I agree that eggs shouldn't auto generate without the parents input (though I do like that unlike it's first launch you no longer need to fill the food and water bars to start making eggs) but my biggest issue with the nest system is that outside of official servers or less technically backed community servers this mechanic won't have much use outside of roleplay and immersion, still good but problematic.
    I say this because the average community server at this point has already increased growth, starts players at juvi instead of hatchling, have waystones that either reprock instantly or in some way fill faster or can have marks used to recharge them, have bots that provide teleport commands and or marks to the player, and have disabled the need for homecaves to edit abilities allowing players to edit their abilities just by sleeping. Many of the normal limitations solved by nesting have already been solved by server options or the communities ingenuity with automated systems meaning that the system really doesn't have a good leg to stand on in POT's current climate unless you play on officials really.
    I do also have a smaller concern regarding the damage speed and stam buffs from nests, expecting lots of clan or megapack groups to find a way to hide nests around populated area's to blow up potential targets.

    • @brianaburch9854
      @brianaburch9854 3 місяці тому +2

      So I think the autogenerate is a whole, not limiting players thing. Like if you tie it to realistic breeding solo players will never get to nest unless they program in NPCs breeding with players. And the devs are particularly big on letting people play exactly how they want. Making it so somone has to sit on the nest for them to generate rather than them generating faster or having choices for servers to toggle that would be ideal though.

    • @Sarah_H
      @Sarah_H 3 місяці тому +1

      And the main benefit of nesting, that you can invite your friends to your nest so they won't have to travel across the entire map to meet you, is already solved by the Waystones

      @@brianaburch9854 I suppose that is a perfectly fine way to look at it if you want to really narrow down such a mechanic. Yes, nesting can just be there to be a part of the cycle, to give players that little extra immersive pass time, but I think dulling the other benefits the devs are trying to add to it to reward players for slowing down and committing to a mechanic by saying “adding these other things just adds to it” really is a disservice to the effort and thought being put behind the mechanic, even if my concerns still stand that with some of the more advanced community servers the nesting mechanic may go unused by a large portion of the community or at the very least only used for roleplay purposes or abusing the stat buffs.

    in a game with teleporting dinosaurs (waystones) unrealistically colorful skins and aoe attacks from a dinosaur stomping the ground, this feels immersion-breaking? i dont think pot has ever cared about immersion and realism to the same degree evrima does. at the end of the day pot is considered an mmo. you mentioned it yourself, you can adopt a completely different species of a young dino and have it magically teleport to your nest, so already immersion is out the window with this mechanic. i agree with some of your points like there needing to be a visual egg indicator aside from the menu, but your main criticism felt kind of nitpicky considering immersion isnt necessarily pot's angle.

    • @thetorocat
      @thetorocat 3 місяці тому +8

      I mean it can works both way. Realistic or not, is pretty much our choices as players. Immersions perhaps isn't PoT angle, imo PoT aimed to giving the freedom to players to do various things they wanna do

    The images of the nest with the eggs in it, were literally just the assets being placed on a map, It had nothing to do with the mechanic itself, the mechanic had not been really worked on yet to my knowledge, but I do agree that you should see the eggs in the nest, but I think they will add this, it is more of a quality of life thing and not necessary so I could see maybe they didn’t have time to do it yet, definitely need to make it so people can just join your nest instead of having to invite people, I hate having to just spam the chat that there’s a nest available, so private and public option like the isle would be great

    Nesting is now fully and officially out and players are enjoying it so far. Although, as a side effect, some players destroying other's nests and attacking hatchlings cause discord and stress in community. But people's final opinion of whether they like it has not been settled yet and will take a while. But at least this new nesting in Path of Titan is not so punishing as you don't have to keep the nest constantly at the right temperature and saturated at the cost of your own survival. Also, the idea that you can adopt eggs and add them to your family tree is fun and that dead hatchlings can also respawn.

  • @wolfenden6529

    The functionality is there but it's the bare minimum and I hope they keep working on this. They cannot release this half cooked (I mean they can but they really shouldn't). There are sooo many things to be improved and expanded upon. Egg and hatchling sizes being one of the big things (I played the most recent test and was shocked when I was told the egg sizes were reduced. They were still huge).
    I also worry about players who already have grown dinos .They're prolly gonna miss out on this mechanic quite a lot unless there are MAJOR perks to nesting or being nested in. Growth is excruciating in this game but that's a whole other can of worms. The cute factor only goes so far.

  • @GoodlyData86596
    @GoodlyData86596 3 місяці тому

    My most wanted QoL feature of PoT nesting is to make it *only* reset growth, while sparing your marks earned and the things you have purchased with your marks, at the moment it only conserves the skins you have purchased, not you marks nor your abilities and alternative subspecies.
    The current implementation is game design that actively discourages nesting in PoT because the main selling point of PoT is the lax punishments and sanctions players receive for major events and decisions like death and subspecies -transition- swapping.
    While on the topic of subspecies swapping and nesting, nesting should give players the option to swap subspecies while they are in the process of resetting their growth to be someone’s child, if it isn’t already permitted in the current iteration of nesting.
    Also the teleport to nest thing that you can do after death as a child should also permit recently adopted children to teleport to the nest, like the current iteration of the system, they only get one use of this teleport until they die and refresh their teleportation allowance.
    That’s everything I personally have a problem with, if you have any better ideas on how my QoL features could be improved then feel free to let me know.

    A cool addition would be the need for both males and females to lay eggs, but some species like female Megalania could lay eggs without a partner and each animal would have its own unique buff shared with its offspring instead of just increased damage. For example, Barsboldia would receive a defense bonus for being with its offspring in the nest area, while Lambeo would receive a buff that reduces water drain.

    nesting competes with the terrible quest resources system to grow also requires to much to make and some creatures are so slow making a nest can take almost a hour as a non small dinos, bigger dinos need less resources. And the invite system sucks we waisted 30 mins trying to get invite to work, and players in the family at least babies wont show which is dumb. also the ai critters dont give enough food at all and the turtle doesn't give enough food for how much defense it has it can almost kill a rex we also need more dino based ai, also could make nesting optionally open to act as matchmaking for specific dinos at the cost of having to incubate them as your group grows

    @R3ar3ntry 3 місяці тому +1

    Except for the adoption part, I find isle nesting way better, PoT is more of a clown fiesta either way so I'm not surprised how they made this choice, I think comparing them is kinda wrong almost since they're such differences between games now, nesting in the isle is more realistic, and the benefit is your children get your mutations, which makes people want to get nested in. A feature pot will never have.
    A parent of a dinosaur not getting rewards for nesting? Having kids irl as a parent myself sounds crazy to me, my kid is my reward, my kid can grow up and be a a-hole and I'd get no "rewards" for being a parent, even if I was the best parent ever, there's no guarantees... just like the isle.

      Fair, but from what I heard playing the Isle. People barely nest in that game, and when they do it's such a chore. And honestly the parents are the ones who get screwed as they don't get any benefit from raising the baby. While in Pot you can get buffs and even be able to change your abilities while you nest. I personally don't see how the Isle system is any better.

    I know this isn't the point of the video but the shot of the stego just barfing all over its offspring at 10:48 is fucking hilarious. WHY is this even a game feature?? Precocial species exist! Precocial BIRDS exist! WHAT is the dev reason for having every species in the game be altricial other than "muh immersion"?? The only species I can think of that might need extra parenting would be the pteranodon while the hatchlings still can't fly, but even then, the parents could just carry food back to the nest for the offspring to eat (like how it is in BoB, and now how it is in PoT)
    Even the dino documentaries The Isle is trying to emulate show the majority of dino species as precocial, able to travel with the herd/pack, run and hide from predators, and feed themselves shortly after hatching. Heck, the sauropods are usually depicted as having to totally fend for themselves from birth. Not all birds regurgitate to feed their offspring either, so the claim that this is a gameplay mechanic because "that's how birds feed their chicks" is just wrong: raptors do not regurgitate and instead bring food back to the nest, which is then fed to the offspring in small chunks (raptor chicks are altricial and must be cared for, but the hatchling omnis in The Isle are precocial in that they are mobile, with a mouth full of teeth that they would be able to tear at a slab of meat with). In this regard, PoT's system is shaping up to be *vastly superior* to The Isle's, not only because of the nesting buffs to parents who are around their nests, but also because the babies are born already in the mobile juvie stage and can FEED THEMSELVES
