Good video. As a pianist I try to apply coordinated movements when typing or using the mouse including not breaking at the wrist (think of the arm and hand as a unit that moves together), no stretching (shift the whole hand so the fingers stay together, for example, if reaching to hit function or escape key) and not raising the fingers too high so they don't curl. I hope this helps.
When she said use another one I thought they were gonna pull out a sick gaming mouse. Thank you for this video I found it very useful as a Gamer, I was doing a couple of the bad habits in this video.
Well this video just cleared up for me every single darn issue I'm having, between the keyboard size to what was causing my shoulder/neck AND ulnar pain. Thank you so much for posting this. Apparently I use all of my computer equipment like a real dork and that's what has been the issue.
thanks a lot, I do everything well except the mouse, now I know why my index finger hurts for long awhile .. thanks a lot. advice, download keytweak and switch backspace to the ; key which is very uncommon and move the ; to the backspace this way you would not rotate your hand to reach for that very used key .. it well take you few days to adjust but your hand would thank you for it.. and use the cap lock for other useful key that cost you a lot to type,.. analyze what you do while typing or playing it will tell you what and why and where. thanks a lot for this video
Thank you for this helpful video. I've had cubital tunnel pain for a few years & have tried many new techniques and devices. I've found a detached trackpad to be most helpful so far, but am going to now order an ergonomic mouse that doesn't require clenching of the pinky.
@@ozguraydn8407 Doing well! I did a round of physical therapy which was very helpful. I try to take breaks in my work so as not to aggravate it. I got a Kensington Trackball that I use, but the main thing that helps is breaks and not pushing myself if it hurts. I've also noticed that using my phone a lot contributes to the pain. Best of luck to all suffering.
Even more relevant now due to most people WFH. I recently changed to a trackball mouse and split keyboard, they have really helped. Sit/stand desks are good too as you are more likely to use your devices properly when you can't slump in a chair.
I removed my wrist pads (double layer!) and tried the floating method and it actually feels better typing (for now)! I testet with some typing test websites but that is not enough. After a week using this method - i am gonna conclude if this is the best way for me.
Thank you. This was very informative. I am hoping to implement some changes in my computer peripheral use habits to improve the pain issues I am experiencing particularly in my right hand and fingers. I've subscribed!
Hi Sarah, good video, I use a laptop and get pains in my fingers mostly, I use it a lot, I am trying to use it a lot less and using your tips thanks from Fred in Essex, Uk.
Good solid, practical advice, thank you. I used to have my mouse at a slightly higher level than my keyboard the root cause of my shoulder and forearm problems. I intend to go back to using a trackball mouse having it at the same level as my keyboard. My outstretched arm really complained!!
2:34 is exactly what's causing my wrist pain. I bought this cheap desktop table were you need to place the mouse on top of it and the keyboard on the slider. The mouse placement causes strain to my forearm while my wrist is holding on from the weight of my arm. I transferred the mouse to fit besides the keyboard on the slider and it feels better now.
I bought an evoluent vertical mouse and since then my wrist pain is gone. I had a cheaper one before that, but after I got the new one, I felt the difference at the first use.
About 4 four months ago experienced muscle pain and eventually weakness. Little did I know was side-effect of SIMLO cholesterol tablets taken about 1 year. No warning of side effects were given. I stopped taking months now. Still I get pain 1 side of the left index finger, tiny rare pain left thumb - right little finger and top of right hand - I type often use a mouse or game controller with my right. Once my hands aren't in use it goes but returns with long use. Years typing i never got this pain b4.
I've developed pain at the base of my forearm of the flexor muscles near where they attach.. near my elbow and definitely the pronator muscle as well. The thing she said about it being pronated for all that time would make sense.. and also i drive for work and use my left arm most of the time to turn the wheel.i think that's why i was feeling pain doing pull ups and curling dumb bells again in the last 2 months or so but i didn't know it was developing adhesions/tendonopathy because it was so light, the pressure needed to turn the wheel. Now adding in playing on my Pc again for hours and hours, driving and working out..i could barely open a bottle or even press down with a sponge to clean a plate. It was brutal. I'm doing everything i can to fix it but it's rough. Uhg.
Great video. Very useful with thoughtful details about working in a desktop and the relationship with keyboard, mouse, screen and paper. A trackball mouse is a lifesaver when it comes to ergonomics. Instead of moving the device across the table, you merely orbit a ball using your fingertips with the device remaining inplace.
Variate how you sit and type through the day, take small breaks, stretch. Also get a mouse pad, you'll get better tracktion on the screen and something soft to rest your wrist on. For the eyes, use the 'night mode' feature in Windows 10 to dim the blue sharp light.
Please suggest a wireless ergonomic KB and mouse. Was designated with Ris by the doctor due to pain at left index finger, right palm - mostly. I use a mouse responsible for palm pain; the keyboard causes the index pain. After a long session with the xbox controller the palm hurt. Doctor said i spent too much hours and simlo cholesterol tablets whose side effect was pain months ago and stopped taking - could be a catalyst. I am to change KB and mouse and spend less hours. When i type most its on the bed.
I've been diagnosed with shoulder bursitis, but I see the cause is the overuse of the laptop, specially by clicking the left button of the mouse a million times a day due to the technical work I need to do, specially with microsoft excel. What I feel is mostly a sort of tendinitis in my right bicep because of the use of the index finger. I also feel stiffness and weakness in my hands, specially when waking up. I put a box under the laptop so that I don't curve my neck when I look at the screen, but at the same time I think that is bad for my shoulder and arms. Now I would like to know how to cure myself. Years ago I could heal by stopping the use of the laptop for a couple of days, but nowadays it seems it doesn't go away for months until I get a corticoid shot. Do you have any advice? (this video is great, btw)
I'm facing this issue from last 3 weeks. My right hand pain like hell in the morning. I will change my working position will that help to reduce the pain? 😔
Hi. What do you guys think of this "vertical mousepad" I been using by Orb Control, MouseRamp. I got an early sample of it. I use a regular mouse on it. It puts my hand into "handshake position". It's been more accurate and less awkward than a vertical mouse for me. I hope this helps somebody.
Oh no. Seems like I've been studying at home the wrong way. No wonder i keep getting headache and painful forearms ans wrist! Time to reconsider the way i work. Haha I did do one thing right which was to raise the monitor to my eye level however, as a student i use a lot of paper and i need to bend my neck to see the paper causing pain.
Ty for video my right hand hurts so much and now i know i was playing too much pc games i was playing it like 3hours a day without doining anything else at first my hand just hurt a little bit but it was ok then next day i couldnt even move it because my bone was... idk how can i say that in englis i can just say that i couldnt even move it
To fix it, I'd first recommend resting your finger for a few days until its gone, and then, after its gone, try to improve your current situation. Like taking more breaks (getting water, bathroom), and using a combination for clicking. For example, I use my laptop's touchpad + Mouse, and have never had any problems with my finger tendons (It was my wrist instead). Also, by any chance? Could the problem be with your mouse (What mouse do you use)? And is your mouse difficult to use/press the buttons? Another thing to keep in mind is, how you use your mouse. Is your wrist straight? And how do you move your mouse? Do you move it with your wrist? Or do you use your arm instead? I'd recommend checking this video out, to try and avoid any future problems with mousing: ua-cam.com/video/vG_3bS3ftVM/v-deo.html
