Grizzly Bear Chases Elk in Yellowstone NP
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 чер 2018
- In the Hayden Valley area of Yellowstone National Park, a grizzly bear chased a herd of elk relentlessly. On this day, the elk managed to escape. At this time of year, when elk calves are being born, the grizzly stay busy hunting, trying to find the elk calves hidden in the sagebrush. For the most part, grizzlies are opportunists and often steal carcasses from the wolves so it is not often that we see one chase a whole herd of elk. This footage was filmed in 4K and saved in 4K but You Tube reduced it.

what blows my mind is the ease in which that bear can navigate through that THICK BRUSH. That brush is probably 3 or 4 feet tall and that bear plows through it at 30 mph. what an unbelievable animal.
@@shivpatel5413 nope, brush is correct
🤨do you realize how tall and strong bears are? that’s like a human running through weeds lol. not that impressive.
I know. Humans can't outrun a grizzly bear.
@@AntiMasonic93 We cant outrun it speed wise, but we can definitely run a lot longer than it can.
I like how these Elk just nonchalantly look, then turn around like " mannnn that nigga can't catch us " 😂 😂 😂 😂

In my opinion, great recording, clean viewing of the elks and the bear. I enjoyed the video. Congrats for delivering us this beautiful wildlife footage.

Never underestimate the speed of a running bear despite their size, they can run VERY fast. Get the hell out out of their way and get to safety
Man what, if you see the bear it’s most likely to late depending on how hungry that bear is determines if you live or not.
That is freak of nature.
Sleeps most of the year eats a lot of meat amogest other things
Big size yet
Still runs that fast with stamina to match.
Am thinking somebody used their size and bullied their way to front when speed was being handed out.
Somewhere there is lean
Animal with shit speed.
Thinking to themselves this can't be right.
Just knockout the bear with a punch to the face.
Get the hell out of there? Yeah but if it's chasin yah you’re not supposed to run cause it triggers any predators prey drive to chase and kill. You shouldn't be in bear territory without a gun anyways that you made sure it works before you head out to any big forest, only time you run is if you know forsure you can climb a tree or get to safety, alot of bears do false charges if you run and its close and you have nowhere to go you can 100% guarantee you just put yourself on the menu.
@@BigJordan92708 Man don't run. Its like a dog that will chase you like your playing with it except its 40x larger
I like the way the bear stopped on a dime to look over the menu.
Such a menace 💀
It's surprising how fast a critter that size can move. Got to admire the size and strength of a bear.
They can go 40 mph in short burst . Don't race one up hill you will regret it. There's a sign in Glacier that say a grizzly was clocked at 45 .
First time I heard a grizzly being called a critter.

“Excuse me excuse me” lmao chillllllll 🤣😂
that was because of those annoying fucking brats schrieking. I wish the bear had grabbed them and we got to listen to those schrieks. nothing worse than those modern shitty parents that let their brats make all the noise they want, completely unacceptable and should be punishable by grizzly.

Lol
I love how the elk properly gauged the distance of the bear. They were never too concerned, pro style.
Ya, looks like about the only chance the bear has is to catch an injured/sick one....
The bear never could have caught them. It was just testing to see if the herd had any weak members who couldn't run away.
@@Rutherford_Inchworm_III you are all wrong. The bear is flushing them out because that’s his territory and too also see if there is any calves. The bear knows the only chance he has is catching a calf.
@Semba 99 " the bear is flushing them out of their territory"? Why on earth would any large predetor try and force prey out of their space? Dumbest thing I've heard today
@@Semba999 Sometimes it is better to say nothing 🤦🏻♂️
The Bear wasn’t hunting cows, that he knew he couldn’t catch, he was instead looking for their calves, which were hidden somewhere in the brush. The calves have no scent when they’re young so the bear was trying to see where the cow elk had been last so he could find out where the calves were hiding out at.
he was definately flushing them out, but many people dont understand nature , let alone themselves, so you are being too knowledgable for the internet and expect too much from people who choose not to know.
Cats stalk and/or work in groups, other predators the same? Is what bears do different?
The bear was being ignorant. Why was he running? He ran and ran but was still a mile away. Nature needs improvement
MIG-29 Stallion Lol. I like it!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@@mig-stallion1359 That is funny@!
it's so interesting how the elk do not just keep running. They have to see where the bear is located, they won't just run unless they know what direction they need to go
thats all they do.... + eat grass... THEY ARENT WIZARDS OF EARTH....

The Elk are so attentive to the dangers of being available.

Bear: I can eat anything suckers! No need to struggle so much.
And when the elks ran away, the bear looked up the hill and thought... ¨And what are those other delicious looking animals standing there, looking my way?¨ lol
Not that it helped the bear catch an elk, but I was impressed on seeing how fast, and how far, the bear could run. Shows you a human would not stand a chance!
Jonathan Hansen omg yes
Usain Bolt could stand a chance
Aaaand we're delicious!
@@CostaB19 Bear = 35, Bolt = 28.
@@li2us "Bear = 35, Bolt = 28." I doubt the bear can maintain that speed for long enough to catch Bolt. The speed that the bear can maintain for a long chase is much less than that... what speed Bolt can maintain for a long chase i don't know? Perhaps he would be better off being an African bushman tribesman to outrun this bear?
Guessing from the age of the kids at the time, a little over 20 years ago in Hayden Valley a little over a mile north of Mud Volcanos we watched a grizzly chase some elk, mostly yearlings we thought, and in the bigger sagebrush one elk was having trouble and the grizzly just plowed through the sage and caught the elk and started to consume it on the spot. It was across the river from where we were. Awesome memory. This video must have been taken within two miles of our sighting.
Yes. The grizzly was testing the group to see if he could spot a weak adult or slow doe with new calf. Predators do this all the time.
Bear: 10,000 steps, okay, today's loss weight job done, time to go to bed.
I feel like if the bear and I sat down and worked on a plan, really utilizing the bush and the terrain we could have gotten something. He was just out their winging it
Its actually really amazing there are still places this wild left in the United States. Man we have destroyed so much habitat for animals and really decimated certain populations of animals beyond extinction plenty of times. Just happy someone can still witness this here.
You would be surprised. There is enough habitat in Washington and Oregon for thousands of Grizzlies and wolves.
Wolves have moved into the central and northeast parts of the state and Wolverines roam the entire range of the Cascades in Washington. They even show up on the coast on occasion.

that poor bear burned up a lot of calories for nothing
Yeh sad -_- Hopefully he/she got a meal asap.

Yes and no. The bear was loping likely looking for injured/sick elk. The bear was not going as fast as it could yet. Remember watching one loping in circles near the location in this video. As soon as it flushed a calf out of hiding the bear kicked it into full speed and wow just wow.
Joe R I was thinking the same ://, I pity him the poor hungry guy

Nature is beautiful but wild at the same time. Fascinating
And sad the fact that humanity has destroyed it by constant touching of remote environmental habitat lands of natural wildlife over the last 10,000 years. And still many trees are getting cut down more than ever before! This is why I feel like dying, there is literally no peace, and encroachmentless areas of pockets of vast land fields left of forests. Too bad that we had to civilize in order to survive on Thoris planet earth. But again what we could is totally under our control but we chose the dirty over the clean, oh well.. L APE SOCIETY! Fr fr!

A BC Provincial BEAR AWARE video I used thirty years ago for teaching youngsters about outdoor safety and preparing canoeists for the wilderness BC Bowron Lakes circuit had a memorable quote , “ A bear is faster than the World’s fastest runner. You are not the worlds fastest runner.”

Nice Deby! I see it did make it on "Right this Minute". You are so lucky to live there!
Nice camera work!
That bear had bundles of energy. It looked fat. Did it really need to eat? I think it was just having fun. The way it ran aimlessly, seemingly aimlessly, reminded me of carefree summer days running up and down grassy slopes.
That is an excellent video of bears having a chased a herd of elk relentlessly.
I knew they could move pretty quickly but I didn't know a grizzly could run that fast that far.
They have amazing stamina!
That would kinda suck always having to watch out for grizzlies chasing after you.
Like having to have locks on your doors or staying out of certain areas of town.
I think Grizzly bears are the fastest animals pound for pound.
Elks: NIGGA WE KNOW YOU'RE THERE
Bear:nO yOU dON't
That's just crazy how fast those bears can move with the sheer size of them i mean damn world class speed for those enormous animals its just baffling but I suppose they have to be fast to eat lol and bears eat constantly they have the perfect life with them sleeping through the cold damn winters I want that life

TY Deby! GREAT VIDEO!!!
That sudden stop by the bear is just so cute, most adorable killing machine ever
It's even worse when you realize the bear was trying to flush out the calves.
Ik especially when one decapitated a moose
😂😂😂😂right sooooo cute
He was gauging who was the slowest or oldest or possibly injured. Only reason they don’t go after some of the people is the elk taste better and provide a bigger meal!
I don’t find anything adorable about the Bear being a “ killing Machine.” What l do find “ adorable “ is how much Meat is available from One of these Bears to feed Hungry Children and the underprivileged. A number of these Bears, harvested every year would help ease that problem.

He wanted one of those Tender Elk Calves. And he will get one too! The reason he stopped halfway down the hill is he was surveying the situation. Seeking out a Calf or a weak link meaning a weak or sick or wounded Elk to zero in on. They are ruthless and he will get his share of Elk in his lifetime.
Imagine a group of four bears hunting together that will be insanity

Funny how people commentate to others that are there watching, "there he goes.. he's running" no shit..
It's called excitement
Standard move. He chases the herd a bit to see if there's a sick or injured individual protected inside it. Or even if a younger one might find itself confused and vulnerable.
If there is, it's as good as dead.
The girl said "barreling down the hill"... or is bearreling down the hill? First time I had ever heard someone correlate the two.
For a second I thought it was the ending credits of Little House on the Prairie 😂
That bear can cover that ground real fast peaple dont realize how fast how long a bear can run
Yes bears are fast they can run at 50-55kmh, a black bear could maybe run at 55-57 kmh a polar one at 40 kmh and wolves ( they share a ancestor) at 60kmh so I do not think u should underestimate.
This video demonstrates the #1 reason why visiting National Parks in America is so damn annoying: the Constant Mindless Chatter of the Ignorant Tourists.
And this Chronic Need to Talk seems greater in America than almost any other country. It's as if a culture that has been spoon-fed a steady diet of play-by-play in sports, and video games, just cannot CONTROL ITSELF when it comes to talking.
How many people even know the art of just standing there and quietly observing? Do we really HAVE to tell everyone around us what we see? Do we think that everyone else is blind?

"you can bearly see it"
Yes I know, because it's a bear... 🐻
It makes you wonder how grizzlies manage to catch any elk at all at all.Maybe they just catch the very old/injured or the very young ones.
Ya Think
Depends on the bear. Some bears easily catch elk/other prey. Some do not.
In bears in general, it can depend from bear-to-bear.
that's what they do most of the time, yes. But they can cacth adults as well, they have way more stamina and that bear was not on full speed. It wasn't even going after the adults, it was trying to find hidden calfs if there were any.
Nice work! What time of the day was this? Wildlife are usually more active around dawn or dusk...
Very lovely video. Thanks for sharing.
Great footage, the people talking are so annoying.
those are called breeders people who the bear should be chasing instead
I've visited many National Parks. The people that talk the most(I've chatted with them....) are invariably bigger city people(think LA, SF, Denver, Portland....) that have spent 99% of their lives in crowded neighborhoods and bumper-bumper traffic). Most know NOTHING about wildlife. Even worse, they've had MONTHS to plan their vacations, but most have read NOTHING about deer, bears, etc.
I have a solution that would help,, and here it is:
Put the park admission tickets for sale online. Only allow tickets sold to people who take and pass a 100-question quiz on wildlife and nature. This would be a good start. I just haven't figured out yet how to prevent cheating.
Ok Robert...
