When it comes to their storylines and class-specific dialogue which is tied to their class. Will it be messed up the second you respec or will it be safe for me who wants Astarion to be a rouge ranger where let's say continue him as normal to level 5. Level up the next 3 levels as a ranger before I respec, but still pick rouge for Astarion for the first 3 levels and then level him up as a ranger?
If I respec, maintain the origin class and multiclass all other lvls it would hurt the history in any way? Only the first class lv should remain the same? Or at least one lv should remain, not necessarily being the first?
@@kfarbarata from what I've been able to gather it only changes their dialouge options but since you won't be spending a lot of them using your companions to speak that won't be a problem. Since I've not seen anyone say that their voice acted replies to you are class based. Don't take my word 100% for it but having looked around online this seems to be the answer I see the most.
My fear is by respec they dont do something they could do, like what happens to WYLL with he is not a warlock with a pact anymore? Does that will bug or change his history? @@Bacbi

I've been thinking about respecing Astarion as a bard because bardic inspiration is really good and Astarion's personality fits a bard just as much as rogue.
As he is currently into my male halforch barbarian, i'd like to respec him to a cleric as i dont have one :) but a vampire casting turn undead is abit ....well...weird :D

Like, WTF, Larian, Astarion has spent the past 200 years being forced to seduce people, that's far more an iconic part of his tragic story than even the Rogue stuff, I would argue. And the Narrator and various NPCs keep commenting on how beautiful he is, how his body was "made to ruin people", esp in the brothel scene. But Persuasion, Deception, Performance (Erotic Art) and Intimidation are all CHA-based skills. So why the heck did they give him only a CHA 10? Is that an oversight, a remnant of Astarion having a different backstory in earliest development? I honestly don't care if a CHA 19 would put him over some 5E stat point limit... the companions should have stats and skills that fit their personality and story, just like Wyll got a rapier proficiency as the Blade of the Frontier despite warlocks not having rapier as weapon proficiency, they added it anyway.
Something to note, changing class may not actually take their special dialogue away. For example, Shadowheart has dialogue tagged “Cleric of Shar”. However, if you change to a Paladin, the dialogue will still be there, but it will be tagged “Paladin of Shar”. I think Larian went in knowing that certain characters can match equally (arguably better) with other classes.
Which is great because shadowheart has the most frustratingly lame subclass in the game, I don't think I have ever gotten value out of invoke duplicity. Clerics on their own are still great, but the other subclasses are so much cooler.
As long as you have 1 level of the original class it doesn’t matter. Multiclassing actually gives some characters cool options you’d never get if you didn’t multiclass

The difference narratively is that Wyll would gain the reactivity of the class he’s respecced into - so if he’s a wizard now and you get into a conversation as Wyll, he’ll have dialogue options that reflect that he’s a wizard.
@@VectoredPromise You only get class dialogue options for the character you are currently in control of, and whichever character you are in control of doesn't actually speak the lines you choose....so no, no extra voice acting was required.
from what heard/seen, Larain mentioned that, the subclass specific storyline would remain, but it would be weird and confusing or taking you out of the immersion with the dialogue. EG for shadowheart, all her story line is based on being a cleric of Shar, so if you respecc her to a non shar cleric, it will still have her saying she is a cleric of shar. I can confirm this as i just now had a conversation with her in the camp and she said she follows shar, states she is a cleric of shar (trickery domain) even though i respecced her to a tempest domain cleric.
thanks for this, it was the exact info I was looking for, it also isn't really that immersion breaking considering the way the cleric subclasses are worded, they are not tied to a god but more a behavior so its easy to excuse that shar has clerics focused on things other than deception.
Bruh its not that much of a difference. Trickery Domain, Life Domain, PP domain etc. all more or less have the same spells. The only difference is you dont have worthless divinity spells/passive if you spec out of trickery.

@@TheNzFox No a huge difference is a different class with completely different abilities and skills. All of a sudden getting heavy armor or an extra a attack isn't a huge difference all of a sudden. No matter what the cleric is still casting concentration spells with a similar pool of spells. Its not like if you pick trickery you only get sneaky spells and life only gives you healing spells. That would be a huge difference.
FYI you cant change Shadowhearts chosen deity only her domain. Which shouldn't actually effect anything. Honestly even if you aren't going to change there subclass you NEED to respec them to fix there stats. Shadowheart especially suffers from a really bad distribution. She is useless in melee and isn't great at any particular skill, meaning you just kind of fail at everything with her. But she's SUPPOSE to be the healer, she's kind of meant to be the mainstay healer. But she's kind meh at it... and trickery domain is an aweful cleric domain... that offers very little usefulness. Personally i'm respecing her... probably to life and not looking back.
@@barcster2003 Actually, it really doesn't. All cleric domains have access to the same exact spells, and realistically the Passives and Divinities from Trickery are the worst of the options. Poison is the least effective damage type especially late game.
I respecced shadowheart to a life cleric/lore bard - she is the best character in my party she is nuts! Anyway, i was able to still do the temple of shar, gauntlet of shar, chosen of shar etc... right up to the fateful point and use her dialogue as normal. Thus, i think the class change might be the issue, not the subclass. On my second playthrough, i want to respecc her as a dark justiciar build.

So the only two class changes ive ever done were minor but this is good to know. Shadowheart is way more usefu as a life cleric imo depending on party comp of course but having that healing output on demand is great. Wyll i made a fighter 2/ warlock 10 Multi. Why he wasnt like this in the first place i have no idea it makes him feel so much better and lorewise is great considering his orgins and his father.
I actually made will Warlock (Fiend/Blade) X/Bard (Swords) 3. It fits, because he likes to dance, had a life of a noble and plans to write a book about his adventures. That way I can use him as a melee fighter who can disarm traps without losing flavour.
It actually makes more sense for shadowheart to be respeced after act 2. Depending on what you choose to do in her personal quest line. The hair change and all, & a new cleric subclass
That's all I did. Changed to Light origin subclass, bumped her strength and constitution stats up to make her a little better in combat but still keeping her utility for the group.
Unless your MC is one of the origin characters you can change the subclasses. The story is not impacted dialogue wise but from your decisions and interactions.

Question for anyone in chat who knows, without spoiling (aka just yes or no answer). Does changing your companions skills (not backgrounds but like class skills) have any impact on unique dialogue, options, or interactions in the game?
Skills and spells, no. Subclass, yes,but not in the way you think. It'll just be immersion breaking for her to worship shar as a light cleric, for example. But you won't actually miss out on story, if that makes sense.
As far as we know all this fear about respeccing could just be misinterpreting larian's comments. Rn it's unclear whether they meant the story gets wonky or if you actually lose something
@@curupa66 They actually put it really plainly, which is why I'm confused at everyone's confusion. Respecing characters WILL NOT EFFECT THE STORY LINE AT ALL. Period. End of. I turned my Wyll into an Arcane Trickster Rogue, and he's still 'A Warlock with a Pact' for his story line. It only really messes with immersion, period. You can safely change them ALL around and you won't lose a thing, simply dialogue options(When controlling said characters only!) will change.

I can tell you there are some subclass specific dialog options, definitely mich less than class specific ones however. Depends how much content you're willing to miss.
Excuse me while I respec Gale into a completely magicless class. Maybe then he'll shut up about being "more qualified" to handle forbidden necromancy tomes than me.
I played a trickery cleric for over a year in DND and I swear that if it's weapon affinity wasn't poison and could be used on magical weapons it would be top tier.
I like Multiclassing them... True, Shadowheart is a Trickery Cleric to Shar, no disputing that... but that doesn't mean she can't ALSO be a Paladin of Shar. Granted, this is , but I think she'd do well as a Vengeance or even Oathbreaker Paladin(Granted you will have to re-stat her). Other than that, making her a Shadow Monk or Gloomstalker Ranger would also be good, since both of those depend on Wisdom already and fit with her theme of darkness. As for the other party members... Astarion can become a Shadow Monk or a Gloomstalker Ranger, or even part Fighter (I'm thinking Eldritch Knight). Karlach could easily be a Champion Fighter or even a Paladin (swearing an oath to never return to Zariel's service and all that). Lae'zel is quick to anger, and thus it makes sense for her to be a Barbarian. Wyll IS a warlock, contract and all, but he is also the "Blade of Frontiers". With his high charisma I could easily see him being a Bard of Valor. Gale is... Difficult. I could say Sorcerer (justified by the magic orb in his chest) or even Eldritch Knight Fighter or Arcane Trickster Rogue to give him more melee options, but in his case, storywise, I think it best to re-stat him for some Wisdom and make him a Cleric of Mystra (Knowledge).
Maybe just me but I feel it would not bother me what type of cleric Shadowheart was gameplay wise, even if it would not directly fit her background as a Sharr worshipper. As long as I don't respec her into something else entirely I feel it wouldn't really break immersion, as it mostly affects the types of spells she uses. It's more gameplay than actual lore related. And for some companions I feel it is even lessrelevant, as they don't have that strong of a character class representation. Still sad that they didn't allow for proper custom parties without the multiplayer trickery. Most of the companions I find to be just obnoxious.
IMO, I might give her more DEX and dip into a few level of rogue (2-3), since her domain spells are extremely good for recon. Since she appeared to get her artifact by stealing, so it's safe to assume that skullduggery is one of her talents as well. As for others, Astation might be a good bard, given his personality. Giving Karlachs 2 level of fighter to get Action Surge only boost her already insane damage output and second wind make her even harder to kill especially if she's a bear totem. Wyll being a Sword Bard is totally in character since he is supposed to be a 'spellblade'. Initially, I thought Lae'zel might make a good paladin, but after seeing her quests playing out, she's better as pure fighter. Gale has to be pure wizard as well for the immersion.

The artifact does not belong to Shar, it belonged to the Githyanki. Shadowheart is simply lying... or more generously, she is brainwashed to believe the story, just like she falsely believes to be a worshipper of Shar.
I’m wondering what would happen if you respec Lae’zel for INT and pick Eldritch Knight instead of Battle Master? RP wise I feel BM makes the most since and it’s like the strongest subclass, but as the player, isn’t it our job to change things up? Thanks for the warning about the impact of changing an origin character's class. Just to clarify however, will dialogue options change if you re-speck subclass, or only if you change the primary class?
It's primary class only, and for those options to even appear in conversations you have to initiate said conversation WITH the character in question. There is never a challenge for 'Wildheart Barbarian' its only for 'Barbarian', same with cleric, Paladin, etc. So as long as they are still the same base class, it wouldn't change a thing. Not only that...but considering Larian took the time to do these for EVERY class, even if you do change their base class, they'll still get Class options throughout various conversations, it might just change up any voice lines spoken. But seeing as when you are in control of the character you don't hear it's voice in convos.....
Hm i am starting right now and i respecced shadowheart into tempest cleric. (She is OBVIOUSLY not a goody two shoes healbot.) I wonder if that already breaks her dialogue.
To be fair they at least could have build them better. I think my 1st 5e character i build after watching somebody play on youtube had better ability score spread than the companions.
I played the game through twice before i started getting into the builds and specs and maximizing everyone. You can beat this whole game with half decent gear and your original characters. You don't need every single trick to beat it. so i would say the same thing. beat the game first, then come to youtube and find the tricks and stuff you missed.
Extremely misleading as you make it sound like their story changes if they change class, but it doesn't. It just might seem "weird" to them being called by their old class. Big deal
I just add ranger traits to all characters and shared good arrows with them. And turned my Astarion into Barbarian since I just chose Minthara's sexy butt over Karlach's heart....someone needs to be a Barbarian anyways..
Should mention that some of their Origin specific abilities go well with other classes. Like Karlach. Her heating up ability works for ANY melee as long as you grab 1 point in Barbarian for rage.
Jesus, just thought of this being possible after beating the game on tactician mode. Things could have gone way easier... Most companions stats distribution is lame. Damn, I even left some nice companions out of my party 'cause I didnt want their classes...
I think this info is misleading... If you have Shadowheart as A COMPANION, why should she have dialogue options? I play as sorcerer and I see only MY options in dialogs, like [charisma] or [sorcerer]. You will never get an option [cleric], becouse you are not a cleric class, its your companion.
A tad bit, it's just the game was built w/ that in mind primarily. Plus there is a tad bit of role play question regarding a cleric of a God just respecting into a completely different class (up to the player).
This really isn't that big a deal as long as their original class is present. You can change the subclass, multiclass them, etc. and they won't lose anything. Also, if you're not planning on having them take much of the dialogue (such as if you're playing a custom character as your primary "party face") it won't change anything at all. I ran Shadowheart as a tempest cleric, Wyll as warlock/swords bard, Astarion as rogue/gloomstalker ranger, etc. and they all worked great.
Can you confirm that all you lose are the dialogue choices for their classes? Their story and cutscenes and conversations remain the same? (They act as if they are still what their origin was - such as Wyll talking about his pact and having dialogue with Mizora etc. even if he's not a Warlock anymore?)

@@theovguy I think if you make a character with every class (kudos to Abserd) you will get all conversation options... ...and a bad headache ...and miss some options as you level while you progress in the story... (With the new lvl 12 cap you can actually pull this off...)
100% Safe to do, the only thing it changes is Class specific Dialogue with OTHER NPCs if you enter the convo AS Astarion. His story will still treat him the same, and to be fair....his story isn't tied to his class at all, so......yeah. The only CLASS Specific stories are Wyll, Shadowheart and Gale. And just to specify, you can STILL safely change all their classes as well. I turned my Wyll into a Rogue, and his story still triggered and works just like it should, it's just a bit immersion breaking to have my rogue talk about his Warlock Pact >.>
I cant bring myself to respec them either, but shadowheart and astarion are so incredible bad characters when you measure them as 5e characters. Wyll again shows again that everybody can build a functional warlock.
Similar Larian style RPG but this follows D&D ruleset. It's not as complicated as it seems.The presentation, visual quality, voice acting and music are a step above DOS2 imo.

This game is unplayable. A maxed cha pally won't pass a cha check, a max str barbarian has 100% miss chance and astarion can't pick a single lock. I quit after 186 roll fails and 0 passes.
I got to level 3 and now I can't kill anything on any difficulty. I don't understand how yall are progressing. I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong. I beat divinity 2 on the hardest difficulty multiple times but I can't kill anything in this game. Miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, deal 6 damage, miss, miss, miss. I've restarted the game i've made 4 different characters changed the group makeup same results everytime. get to around level 3 or 4 then can't kill anything. i've probably watched like 10 hours of how to video's and nothing.
If you miss then you're likely not proficient with your weapon or have not the right stats for your weapon type. This is D&D ruleset, not Divinity 2. This is how your general attack bonus is calculated (some abilities might of course act differently to this): 1d20 + Ability Modifier Bonus + Proficiency (if applicable) + Magic Weapon Bonus (if applicable) + Class Feature Bonuses (if applicable) + Spell Bonuses (if applicable) = Attack Roll Please note that your attack roll is not equal to your hit chance, as that is also determined by environmental factors or of your enemy. If you use weapons that you're not proficient with, then you're going to get negative hit modifiers applied to it instead, worsening your hit chance. A simplified hit chance formula could look like this: Chance to Hit = ( ( 21 - ( Target’s AC - Player’s Attack Bonus ) / 20 ) * 100
The other important tip I'd suggest is be really thoughtful and creative about battlefield approach. If you just walk into every fight as a clumped group, you're going to get wipe. Scout the scene, try to get high ground with ranged characters, sneak attack whenever possible. Use AoE spells to control the field and enemies' movement etc. All that makes the difference between dying and medium difficulty fights
Can i change subclasses without issue? I didnt need astarion as an Arcane Trickster, so i respeced him into a Thief instead. Since hes still a rouge this wont mess anything up right? Can I change Gales subclass to a different school too, for example? Without messing story stuff up?
Subclasses don't matter, especially the ones that you don't get till level 3 because you get the characters at level 1. I've literally never taken Arcane trickster or Evocation mage on Astarion and Gale.
Funny thing, I guess it won't... The reason is: It can give you conversation options if you are a specific subclass, but interactions (channel divine energy, decipher rune etc) are very likely core-class-bound. It is not unreasonable to say that Cleric 101 is the same for every religion as the mechanisms of deities are the same. Although to be a Light domain human male cleric of Lolth... idk man...
That sucks you can't change your race, but I guess that makes sense. I chose an elf even tho I wanted to be a half elf cause elves are proficient with long swords and I wanted to be a spell throwing sword swinging warlock. Then I find out warlocks get magic weapons that scail with charisma😮💨. Tempted to restart the whole game now.
I don't think her subclass is relavent. When I got her in my party and leveled her up to 3 she wasn't locked into wildheart, it was just the default option.
@@thebillyd00 Considering the party member JOINS you at level 1, and can't have a Sub-class yet.....it matters not at all. Class doesn't even matter. For one, Karlach's story has nothing to do with being a barbarian. The only stories that are tied to class are Wyll, Shadowheart and Gale, and even them you can safely change. Their story will simply treat them as if you hadn't.
Strange example... it looks like you can change domain\subclass and still get special lines, but you say it like they disappear even if you keep original class. Light Domain Shadowheart still should get [CLERIC][WISODM] dialogs since she is still a Cleric. Right?
@@Brakarei good question, during respect you cant change deity, its not even connected to domain. So if she is a Cleric she always going to be Shar, means dialogs should be ok. I dont think you can select Shar when you create Cleric as a custom character.

So if you jump into a convo with a Shadowheart you turned into a Pally, she might have a Paladin response, as that is her class not cleric, but her story will always treat her as a Cleric to Shar.
I respec shadowheart as a different subclass, and the cleric of shar stuff is all there still. Also after a certain story point a respec makes sense anyway 😅

Changing origin classes only affects contextual dialogue options it doesnt change their story. I.e. Wyll as a bard is still a Warlock for the story.

from what heard/seen, Larain mentioned that, the subclass specific storyline would remain, but it would be weird and confusing or taking you out of the immersion with the dialogue. EG for shadowheart, all her story line is based on being a cleric of Shar, so if you respecc her to a non shar cleric, it will still have her saying she is a cleric of shar. I can confirm this as i just now had a conversation with her in the camp and she said she follows shar, states she is a cleric of shar (trickery domain) even though i respecced her to a tempest domain cleric.
thanks for this, it was the exact info I was looking for, it also isn't really that immersion breaking considering the way the cleric subclasses are worded, they are not tied to a god but more a behavior so its easy to excuse that shar has clerics focused on things other than deception.

Bruh its not that much of a difference. Trickery Domain, Life Domain, PP domain etc. all more or less have the same spells. The only difference is you dont have worthless divinity spells/passive if you spec out of trickery.

@@TheNzFox No a huge difference is a different class with completely different abilities and skills. All of a sudden getting heavy armor or an extra a attack isn't a huge difference all of a sudden. No matter what the cleric is still casting concentration spells with a similar pool of spells. Its not like if you pick trickery you only get sneaky spells and life only gives you healing spells. That would be a huge difference.
For Shadowheart, I think it's fine if you change her after a certain thing happens in Act 2.
FYI you cant change Shadowhearts chosen deity only her domain. Which shouldn't actually effect anything. Honestly even if you aren't going to change there subclass you NEED to respec them to fix there stats. Shadowheart especially suffers from a really bad distribution. She is useless in melee and isn't great at any particular skill, meaning you just kind of fail at everything with her. But she's SUPPOSE to be the healer, she's kind of meant to be the mainstay healer. But she's kind meh at it... and trickery domain is an aweful cleric domain... that offers very little usefulness. Personally i'm respecing her... probably to life and not looking back.
Trickery domain still has some great stuff but if you dont use it then yeah.
@@barcster2003 Actually, it really doesn't. All cleric domains have access to the same exact spells, and realistically the Passives and Divinities from Trickery are the worst of the options. Poison is the least effective damage type especially late game.

Honesly Respecing Wyll into a fighter warlock multiclass makes more sense for his backstory and lore fighting style.
Sorcerer warlock multi class is the most OP though.

I respecced shadowheart to a life cleric/lore bard - she is the best character in my party she is nuts! Anyway, i was able to still do the temple of shar, gauntlet of shar, chosen of shar etc... right up to the fateful point and use her dialogue as normal. Thus, i think the class change might be the issue, not the subclass. On my second playthrough, i want to respecc her as a dark justiciar build.
Changing the subclass is relatively safe. I usually do so for Shadowheart from trickery to war. She doesn't lose anything content related.

Shadowheart can change domain but you can't change the deity she worships, so you're free to do that
So the only two class changes ive ever done were minor but this is good to know. Shadowheart is way more usefu as a life cleric imo depending on party comp of course but having that healing output on demand is great. Wyll i made a fighter 2/ warlock 10 Multi. Why he wasnt like this in the first place i have no idea it makes him feel so much better and lorewise is great considering his orgins and his father.
I actually made will Warlock (Fiend/Blade) X/Bard (Swords) 3. It fits, because he likes to dance, had a life of a noble and plans to write a book about his adventures. That way I can use him as a melee fighter who can disarm traps without losing flavour.
It actually makes more sense for shadowheart to be respeced after act 2. Depending on what you choose to do in her personal quest line. The hair change and all, & a new cleric subclass
That's all I did. Changed to Light origin subclass, bumped her strength and constitution stats up to make her a little better in combat but still keeping her utility for the group.
Unless your MC is one of the origin characters you can change the subclasses. The story is not impacted dialogue wise but from your decisions and interactions.

Yes, I've now tested this and it does. Essentially unlocks more dialog options. Added a pinned comment to explain.

Skills and spells, no. Subclass, yes,but not in the way you think. It'll just be immersion breaking for her to worship shar as a light cleric, for example. But you won't actually miss out on story, if that makes sense.
As far as we know all this fear about respeccing could just be misinterpreting larian's comments.

@@curupa66 They actually put it really plainly, which is why I'm confused at everyone's confusion. Respecing characters WILL NOT EFFECT THE STORY LINE AT ALL. Period. End of. I turned my Wyll into an Arcane Trickster Rogue, and he's still 'A Warlock with a Pact' for his story line. It only really messes with immersion, period. You can safely change them ALL around and you won't lose a thing, simply dialogue options(When controlling said characters only!) will change.

I can tell you there are some subclass specific dialog options, definitely mich less than class specific ones however. Depends how much content you're willing to miss.

Don't sleep on default Trickery domain abilities. Being able to give advantage on stealth checks as a CANTRIP is very useful.
Trickery domain is so fun especially as a tav rogue

I played a trickery cleric for over a year in DND and I swear that if it's weapon affinity wasn't poison and could be used on magical weapons it would be top tier.

True, Shadowheart is a Trickery Cleric to Shar, no disputing that... but that doesn't mean she can't ALSO be a Paladin of Shar. Granted, this is , but I think she'd do well as a Vengeance or even Oathbreaker Paladin(Granted you will have to re-stat her). Other than that, making her a Shadow Monk or Gloomstalker Ranger would also be good, since both of those depend on Wisdom already and fit with her theme of darkness.
As for the other party members...
Astarion can become a Shadow Monk or a Gloomstalker Ranger, or even part Fighter (I'm thinking Eldritch Knight).
Karlach could easily be a Champion Fighter or even a Paladin (swearing an oath to never return to Zariel's service and all that).
Lae'zel is quick to anger, and thus it makes sense for her to be a Barbarian.
Wyll IS a warlock, contract and all, but he is also the "Blade of Frontiers". With his high charisma I could easily see him being a Bard of Valor.
Gale is... Difficult. I could say Sorcerer (justified by the magic orb in his chest) or even Eldritch Knight Fighter or Arcane Trickster Rogue to give him more melee options, but in his case, storywise, I think it best to re-stat him for some Wisdom and make him a Cleric of Mystra (Knowledge).
Maybe just me but I feel it would not bother me what type of cleric Shadowheart was gameplay wise, even if it would not directly fit her background as a Sharr worshipper. As long as I don't respec her into something else entirely I feel it wouldn't really break immersion, as it mostly affects the types of spells she uses. It's more gameplay than actual lore related. And for some companions I feel it is even lessrelevant, as they don't have that strong of a character class representation.
Still sad that they didn't allow for proper custom parties without the multiplayer trickery. Most of the companions I find to be just obnoxious.
IMO, I might give her more DEX and dip into a few level of rogue (2-3), since her domain spells are extremely good for recon. Since she appeared to get her artifact by stealing, so it's safe to assume that skullduggery is one of her talents as well.
As for others, Astation might be a good bard, given his personality. Giving Karlachs 2 level of fighter to get Action Surge only boost her already insane damage output and second wind make her even harder to kill especially if she's a bear totem. Wyll being a Sword Bard is totally in character since he is supposed to be a 'spellblade'. Initially, I thought Lae'zel might make a good paladin, but after seeing her quests playing out, she's better as pure fighter. Gale has to be pure wizard as well for the immersion.
Or you can hire hirelings who dont have storylines and customize them as you want.

The artifact does not belong to Shar, it belonged to the Githyanki. Shadowheart is simply lying... or more generously, she is brainwashed to believe the story, just like she falsely believes to be a worshipper of Shar.
I’m wondering what would happen if you respec Lae’zel for INT and pick Eldritch Knight instead of Battle Master? RP wise I feel BM makes the most since and it’s like the strongest subclass, but as the player, isn’t it our job to change things up? Lol

Thanks for the warning about the impact of changing an origin character's class. Just to clarify however, will dialogue options change if you re-speck subclass, or only if you change the primary class?
It's primary class only, and for those options to even appear in conversations you have to initiate said conversation WITH the character in question. There is never a challenge for 'Wildheart Barbarian' its only for 'Barbarian', same with cleric, Paladin, etc. So as long as they are still the same base class, it wouldn't change a thing. Not only that...but considering Larian took the time to do these for EVERY class, even if you do change their base class, they'll still get Class options throughout various conversations, it might just change up any voice lines spoken. But seeing as when you are in control of the character you don't hear it's voice in convos.....
Respec or re-spec. It stands for re-specialization. Just trying to help! :D

I played the game through twice before i started getting into the builds and specs and maximizing everyone. You can beat this whole game with half decent gear and your original characters. You don't need every single trick to beat it. so i would say the same thing. beat the game first, then come to youtube and find the tricks and stuff you missed.
Extremely misleading as you make it sound like their story changes if they change class, but it doesn't. It just might seem "weird" to them being called by their old class. Big deal

I just add ranger traits to all characters and shared good arrows with them. And turned my Astarion into Barbarian since I just chose Minthara's sexy butt over Karlach's heart....someone needs to be a Barbarian anyways..

Should mention that some of their Origin specific abilities go well with other classes. Like Karlach. Her heating up ability works for ANY melee as long as you grab 1 point in Barbarian for rage.

I think this info is misleading... If you have Shadowheart as A COMPANION, why should she have dialogue options? I play as sorcerer and I see only MY options in dialogs, like [charisma] or [sorcerer]. You will never get an option [cleric], becouse you are not a cleric class, its your companion.
A tad bit, it's just the game was built w/ that in mind primarily. Plus there is a tad bit of role play question regarding a cleric of a God just respecting into a completely different class (up to the player).

This really isn't that big a deal as long as their original class is present. You can change the subclass, multiclass them, etc. and they won't lose anything.
Also, if you're not planning on having them take much of the dialogue (such as if you're playing a custom character as your primary "party face") it won't change anything at all.
I ran Shadowheart as a tempest cleric, Wyll as warlock/swords bard, Astarion as rogue/gloomstalker ranger, etc. and they all worked great.

My Astarion is a str monk with tavern brawler, Wyll is a fighter, Karlac is, well, Karlac. Im the only full spell caster, playing as sorc.
Can you confirm that all you lose are the dialogue choices for their classes? Their story and cutscenes and conversations remain the same? (They act as if they are still what their origin was - such as Wyll talking about his pact and having dialogue with Mizora etc. even if he's not a Warlock anymore?)

You can get both tags and answers.
You will get both dialog tag options in conversation. So you can multi class her whole not effecting story dialog.

100% Safe to do, the only thing it changes is Class specific Dialogue with OTHER NPCs if you enter the convo AS Astarion. His story will still treat him the same, and to be fair....his story isn't tied to his class at all, so......yeah. The only CLASS Specific stories are Wyll, Shadowheart and Gale.
And just to specify, you can STILL safely change all their classes as well. I turned my Wyll into a Rogue, and his story still triggered and works just like it should, it's just a bit immersion breaking to have my rogue talk about his Warlock Pact >.>

Similar Larian style RPG but this follows D&D ruleset. It's not as complicated as it seems.The presentation, visual quality, voice acting and music are a step above DOS2 imo.

Two main difference:
1. Armour are now dodge chance.
2. Spells have limited cast and no more sleeping bag full heal.

This game is unplayable. A maxed cha pally won't pass a cha check, a max str barbarian has 100% miss chance and astarion can't pick a single lock. I quit after 186 roll fails and 0 passes.

I believe so, yes. I've never seen a subclass specific dialog option. Then again I haven't gotten super far as I'm in act 1

Running with wyll, karlach, and gale, and I left gale as normal. My main character is a vengeance paladin.

I got to level 3 and now I can't kill anything on any difficulty. I don't understand how yall are progressing. I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong. I beat divinity 2 on the hardest difficulty multiple times but I can't kill anything in this game. Miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, deal 6 damage, miss, miss, miss. I've restarted the game i've made 4 different characters changed the group makeup same results everytime. get to around level 3 or 4 then can't kill anything. i've probably watched like 10 hours of how to video's and nothing.
If you miss then you're likely not proficient with your weapon or have not the right stats for your weapon type. This is D&D ruleset, not Divinity 2.
This is how your general attack bonus is calculated (some abilities might of course act differently to this):
1d20 + Ability Modifier Bonus + Proficiency (if applicable) + Magic Weapon Bonus (if applicable) + Class Feature Bonuses (if applicable) + Spell Bonuses (if applicable) = Attack Roll
Please note that your attack roll is not equal to your hit chance, as that is also determined by environmental factors or of your enemy. If you use weapons that you're not proficient with, then you're going to get negative hit modifiers applied to it instead, worsening your hit chance. A simplified hit chance formula could look like this:
Chance to Hit = ( ( 21 - ( Target’s AC - Player’s Attack Bonus ) / 20 ) * 100
The other important tip I'd suggest is be really thoughtful and creative about battlefield approach. If you just walk into every fight as a clumped group, you're going to get wipe. Scout the scene, try to get high ground with ranged characters, sneak attack whenever possible. Use AoE spells to control the field and enemies' movement etc. All that makes the difference between dying and medium difficulty fights

Subclasses don't matter, especially the ones that you don't get till level 3 because you get the characters at level 1. I've literally never taken Arcane trickster or Evocation mage on Astarion and Gale.

Your character does become level 1 but you keep all your exp so you just have to click level up again as soon as you respec

Funny thing, I guess it won't...
The reason is: It can give you conversation options if you are a specific subclass, but interactions (channel divine energy, decipher rune etc) are very likely core-class-bound.
It is not unreasonable to say that Cleric 101 is the same for every religion as the mechanisms of deities are the same.

That sucks you can't change your race, but I guess that makes sense. I chose an elf even tho I wanted to be a half elf cause elves are proficient with long swords and I wanted to be a spell throwing sword swinging warlock. Then I find out warlocks get magic weapons that scail with charisma😮💨. Tempted to restart the whole game now.

I don't think her subclass is relavent. When I got her in my party and leveled her up to 3 she wasn't locked into wildheart, it was just the default option.
@@thebillyd00 Considering the party member JOINS you at level 1, and can't have a Sub-class yet.....it matters not at all. Class doesn't even matter. For one, Karlach's story has nothing to do with being a barbarian. The only stories that are tied to class are Wyll, Shadowheart and Gale, and even them you can safely change. Their story will simply treat them as if you hadn't.
Strange example... it looks like you can change domain\subclass and still get special lines, but you say it like they disappear even if you keep original class. Light Domain Shadowheart still should get [CLERIC][WISODM] dialogs since she is still a Cleric. Right?

@@Brakarei good question, during respect you cant change deity, its not even connected to domain. So if she is a Cleric she always going to be Shar, means dialogs should be ok. I dont think you can select Shar when you create Cleric as a custom character.
