Very great tutorial i found, i need to tell my husband to watch this video so we will try to do our house crown molding. Jordan , thank u for sharing this video
Thought I was gonna be surfing videos for hours but your video had me back working quick. Thank you for being competent, clear and concise! One thing I will say though is there IS one person who wants to be called stumpy….Stumpy Nubs Woodworking channel 😉
Yet straight to the point i didn’t see and explanation how you placed the crown on the miter what side for which ( left or right ) , from which point to what point you measure the molding ! That’s where the struggle is ...besides that thanks for sharing
Very good tutorial and simple explanation. I was sharing this with one of my helpers to help better explain the concepts of setting crown and how measurement increases are very important so you don’t burn material by 1/8” or 1/4” trying to get a fit inside corner/outside. 👍🏻
Mr,jordan,,,thanks for this vid,I used this on my new job,just starting,you showed me just what I needed!simple,to the point,can't wait to have a nail gun!old school😐..also how to glue and clean up!!!!a plus...land o ' lakes,wi.usa.
Finally a video on crown I understand. I was so confused about turning crown inside down before cutting. Thank you. Can you share what glue your used? Thanks
We use Lepage No More Nails for gluing, and Dap WATER base calking for the final part. But any WATER base glue that comes in a calking tube works. Thanks for your positive comment.
Jordan, Great video explaining how easy this protractor is to use and how accurate it can be. Well worth the $20+ and it is so compact for storage. Works simply with the T-bevel you likely already have. Your instructions on applying latex caulking to all joints and surfaces before installing the molding to ceiling and wall was so helpful to successful completing our room. When installing long pieces it is like a 3rd hand holding the molding in place while you position and nail. Super suggestion and a great help to ensure the piece is permanently held in place.
Thank you for your positive feedback. It's so great to hear success stories and how Sawset and our videos have helped you improve your carpentry skills. That's our goal!
Im a fine woodworking carpenter by trade for the past 20 years, lots of good tips on this video, how ever, the ceiling you were working with was exceptionally good, most of what we come across is much worse with being off level and bade bumps / dips in the ceiling. it can get much more complicated at times.
You are right Rick. I have done a lot of old homes and plastered homes are the worst. I'm retired now, and that's my son on the video. Thanks for the comment.
Nice video. I agree I pays of to measure corners beforehand. Just like to add that in my experience there's no need for a nail gun if using an appropriate glue. Although i use type of quick glue for the corners, wich means they stay in place, if the corner glue is slow acting ther is possibility of them moving out of place.
Anil Podgornik I have never used nails in this way either. I only use them as supports underneath go stop long runs sagging, and then only if needed. Of course they get removed afterwards.
Need a cushion on that gun. I would highly recommend not caulking nail holes. Use a filler that wont shrink. I use a product i think from DAP but we push it in really good then just little on the heavy side. The filler is super lightweight and can really be sanded by hand. But we just run around tje room with a sanding sponge..it only takes a few minutes and it smooths out any of the crap primer job, the over fill of filler we applied and makes splices and outside corners flawless. Also dead end returns we use CA glue and put it together on the bench b4 it goes up. Blocking, splices and outside corners use wood glue!! Inside corner we cope and then apply a small bead of caulking with adhesion b4 fitting together. Keep everything clean as you go. I like having a wet sponge with me but only to keep my finger clean and moist to slick over the caulking. Crown molding is one of them things where it can be tough in the beginning but when that lightbulb goes off in your head and you totally understand it ..it then becomes as easy as installing baseboards. Very nice angle finder..with that and a bevel gauge you are guaranteed a beautiful outcome. Happy building all!!:)
Thank you for sharing. This video was extremely informative. Way better than the old homes guy. Lol. I have to order that tool that allows you to measure angles.
Nail hole tip ; use drywall putty, you can sand it lightly or wet cloth when it’s close to dry. I find caulking doesn’t fill that great, but that’s just me.
Most silicon caulking's are NOT paintable. Be careful paint will not stick. We use Lepage No More Nails for gluing, and Dap WATER base calking for the final part. But any WATER base glue that comes in a calking tube works.
Your how to videos are the best we’ve seen as far as clear precise descriptions and make us feel like we can tackle it ourselves so thank you. Do you mind sharing under your descriptions, what wood glue you use as well as name of seem and hole filler please? This would help eliminate the guess work when we need to purchase.
Another note if you don’t mind, what model and where to purchase the mitre saw you are using and what the actual brackets you use to hold crown moulding in place on the saw table?

Your skill is impressive. Thanks for the video. I bought the Kregs jig today. And all of the videos say to cut it top down. They left me wondering what the hell is the top and what is the bottom. Hopefully mine turns out looking like this. I bought about 40' extra just to practice with.
Any suggestions for a glue brand that would comparable to Lepage that is available in the US? Picked up Loctite All Purpose but it comes out as a foam and is very awkward to use.
Hello, Love the video. About to start a crown moulding install. The previous owner didn’t want to finish the crown, and stopped with a flush cut on an inside corner 3:103:10 . I understand it’s best to use a coping saw, but how do I cut the moulding and get it to matchup? Thank you
I know the traditional way is to cope, but mitering is the best way, because the 2 moldings lock each other in place. If the existing crown is not glued down, I would remove it and miter. Mitered corners are also crisper.
Wood does a one time minor shrinkage, because of moister content in the wood. I use MDF, because doesn't shrinkage. Recommend oil prime before painting wood or MDF. This keeps moister away from wood.

I always cut crown holding the crown flat on my chop saw.
See our other video.
(How to Cut Crown Molding ON THE FLAT using Sawset Protractor.)
I do too. Most accurate way to do it
What t bevel you are using in this video ?
Any Sliding T -Bevel is compatible with Sawset.
Can you show how to install crown molding on a sloped ceiling?
Yes, if I run into that type of job.
Question. Can you install crown mouldings over walls and ceilings that have wallpaper on? or do you have to cut the paper away first ?
Yes, remove wallpaper and wash off glue residue.
What's are your thoughts MDF and non-MDF crown moldings material?
Wood does a one time minor shrinkage, because of moister content in the wood.
I use MDF, because doesn't shrinkage.
Recommend oil prime before painting wood or MDF.
This keeps moister away from wood.
Where can I get that tool (the sawset)
Go to sawset.ca to place an order.
We ship world wide.
You have any crown molding holder for the one person installation?
When I'm alone I brad nail or screw a 2 by 4 in the corner for a temporary support.
What type of glue do you recommend for installing crown mouldings?

Not a fan of 16 Ga.
With MDF, the edge around the hole is raised and shows when painted.
18 Ga is better.
@@SawsetTools ... Oh ok, I'm not using MDF , I'll be using wood. Maybe the 16 g would be ok

Hi very helpful however do you cut 44° from one side only or from both sides?
Always cut both.
Also positioning of crown on the wall is important.
To high or low on the wall could gap top or bottom.
Adjust it to find that sweat spot.
What brand caulk do you use to fill the nail holes?
Drywall compound is the best to fill holes, then sand flush when dry.
The caulk being used in the video is Top Gun 250 Fast Dry Sealant by PPG. But I, too, use joint compound almost exclusively for nail holes.
