@@Kate-to3xq You also don't have hundreds of thousands to over a million of defensive uses of firearms in Australia like we do every year (per the CDC). When evil sticks it's head up to beat, stab, rape, and kill your daughters and granddaughters, they are pretty much helpless.
Australian gun policy in the US would result in a LOT more victims than we have now. IF wee had door to door searches and confiscations that were magically able to take ALL the guns out of the people's hands, there would be less "shootings"....but there will be a HELL of a LOT more victims of violent crimes in the future than there is in a society where a predator must at least consider his intended victim armed and capable of hurting or killing him instead.
What we have here are a long train of societal/policy failures compounded with political agendas to actually destabilize and dumb down our society. Cultural influencers are tearing us apart, and government is making us more vulnerable.
There's not one SANE man who has spent enough time in Nature to understand how predation works who would willingly assume the position of the prey animal by giving up his most basic and valuable Natural Right to the means of self preservation.
Australia is no model for the U.S. to follow.
I have five grown sons, all of which are gun owners. I have six young Grandchildren (so far...that's just from two of the sons)....five of which are girls. I promise you that they will ALL get guns from PawPaw. They will get ammunition from PawPaw. They will be taught how to and when to use them...and they will each be taught how to reload their own cartridges by PawPaw.
When I refuse to give up my Right to a gun, it's because I refuse to leave my children and Grandchildren to the wolves.

@@Kate-to3xq and AU citizens have been defenseless in the face of crime ever since.
Outright banning guns doesn't solve the everlasting problem of physical disadvantage some have against others. For example, elderly or women vs bigger attackers. A firearm equalizes forces in favor of the less physically strong.
They also banned rifles that aren't even used by most criminals so it seems to be more about control than keeping people safe.
Heard the homicide and suicide rate didn't reall change after. What did change is again the individuals ability to protect themselves.

The scenario should of been somewhere else. But I get where you guys are going with this scenario. In reality that would not even happen in church. But who is the innocent person in the scenario?
For everyone else reading this comment and if you saw the video take it with a grain of salt.
Murder is not good it is ugly, terrible, immoral, I hate to shoot every time. I rather go on a route of lets hear what he has to say and what is bothering him. Help him out. You never know what someone is going through in life. Maybe it was a divorce, breakup, I have nothing in my life to do. The person can be lost in his life.
I'm surprised no one went hands on to disarm him or even to let divert the problem outside.

The "defender" in this video has apparently received a lot of training. That was very important in him being able to "take" immediate command of this situation. With shootings and "volatile" situations happening more often at places of worship, this type of scenario based training is important. I say that because I am not convinced that this "smooth" outcome will be or can be easily reproduced in a "real scenario." Hopefully I might be wrong.

    • @briangc1972

The defender had the advantage of knowing that this was a training scenario and that there would be an attacker and he was firing non lethal practice bullets. Most people will operate correctly under those circumstances. A real shooter, unannounced, using live ammo, will certainly have a different reaction and possibly different outcome.

Add silent /non-verbal initial action into the equation.
It should be more telling what the level of awareness on the part of the defenders is when they aren't cued by loud sound/speech that is clearly aggressive or combative.
I was thinking about a false alarm when the one man's phone rang and he got up to leave. I like that you added that. Once again, it was sound that triggered defensive attention. I would envision silent/low key enemy advance movements.

So my question after this scenario, is that security guard always dressed in that attire with that same holster? Because generally the churches I know of that have armed security, are usually in suits.... and have their firearms concealed. Which creates more of a difficulty pulling while dealing with someone in the same situation.
Also, after he eliminated the subject he focused on him instead of potential other threats. Should always do your best to never get tunnel vision.

My first thought was the interrupted just wanted to talk and was given permission before the other guy escalated. He drew second.
But my second thought was that maybe his message was actually bullets, and the blocking guy suspected it. The speaker giving permission could be just to avoid anger directed at himself, whereas the body guard was in the right to stop the interrupted and even draw his gun, firing when the interrupted drew his.
Either way, firing was justified once he reached into his pocket.
How did the defender know to act so forcefully so soon? The fact the guy said "that's quite enough of that" instead of just asking permission, and walking forward without permission, likely were the top off. Now articulate that to a jury who sees the guard drawing first even after the speaking agreed to let the other speak.

The biggest flaw in the strategy demonstrated here is the security was sitting in the front row with his back to the entire congregation. Many churches do that. The security should be placed in the last row of seating and in the middle of the seating but along the aisles; generally the side aisles. A gunman is more likely to be seated to one side or the other as opposed to sitting in the middle. He won't choose the middle because he won't want to be surrounded, he will feel trapped. As this gunman showed, he is more likely to not sit up front, but more towards the rear.

@@Whiskey5_ He was only successful because the attacker voiced his intentions. Had the attacker actually been an active shooter who already had a drawn weapon, the security dude would have been one of the first casualties. The security dude only prevailed because the attacker was so ridiculously slow drawing his weapon. The problem with these pretend scenarios is that the person playing the role of attacker is not as committed or determined as a real life shooter. The real life shooter typically has practiced with hie weapon and has planned his attack and as a result is much more lethal than the actor.

    • @briangc1972

@@dfl19034 You could ask the investigating law enforcement department for a copy of their final report or ask to speak to the investigators involved. They would have drawings of where the shooter entered, where he sat/stood, where he was first encountered, etc. I think that most simply walked in and started shooting unannounced. Which would make this video useless for training. I know of churches that have received threats and they each have 2 security outside watching the parking areas, one at each entry door, and one or two in the last rows of seating. It is not hard to get 6 volunteers for those jobs. The volunteers take it very seriously, attend training every other month, and consider it a privilege to be chosen to protect their fellow parishioners.

Whether it’s driven by political events, the disconnect in our interactions with others driven by increased use of the damned cell phones/social media or a combination of many factors, here we are.

USCCA just knows their audience and is appealing to it I guess, while riding the wave from the synagogue attack.

The story seemed best case though. What if 1 person or so was just asking a ? Or maybe a crazy person. The true idiot was waiting for the distraction. That is what I thought. I know rarely is it ever so simple. Maybe pepper spray is all there is. Just before security gets there.

If Somebody says I have had enough and I have something to say people in a real Church environment are not going to start scattering.... They're going to sit and hear what he has to say.

These were my exact same thoughts when I watched this video. Not realistic at all. Plus it was an exercise and they were waiting for it to happen. No way would it happen like this. I’ve seen people stand up in church to voice their question or disagreement to what a pastor is saying just like the guy in the video.

I also have been going to church since my grade school days, I'm going to be 70 in a few weeks, I also have not seen a violent out burst. But I also realize with church shootings and churches becoming soft targets and the anti-christianity that's going on in the world, although sad, it's best to have a plan and be prepared.

Acts 8 is a good one, but after this, I think their Thursday night crowd will not be the same. It would have been more interesting to do the end of Acts 7 with Stephen being killed which sets off a chain of events. Just saying. Thanks USCCA!

Does anyone think this scenario is realistic? Also, what if the "bad" guy was just upset and didn't plan on using his gun? The aggressive advance of the guard encouraged him to do so..
Do any churches have armed security?
If you are a bystander, don't confront him as you lose the element of surprise; it becomes a competition of speed.
You confronting the bad guy could also be seen as aggressive and not turn out well in court. They could argue that you triggered the incident. More so if the bad guy lives

I just watched a security guard kill a man for interrupting and walking up the isle. In the real world he would be jailed for murder. It seems the man in the coat was rude yet possibly defending himself from the cowboy security guard. Very very irresponsible video! Imagine people pulling out guns and blasting every time someone got loud

The shooter disrupted the service, which warrants some sort of confrontation. Then he reached for his weapon before security fired his weapon. Security is there to take control and maintain control. You can’t simply stand by cowardly and wait for it to go too far.
