Robert your instructions are always comprehensive and easy to follow unlike the majorityof diy car maintenance videos.Keep up the good work and many thanks.
I have to fix my latch because my car thinks the door is open and leaves the chimes on. When the video gets to 3:59 there it is. Boom. This should be easy after seeing your video. Thanks man.
Thank you Robert for the easy to follow videos. Your helping me keep my wife's V70 alive, to which she is very fond of as it was her father's car. We are currently having central locking issues related to the power locks and I watched your video last night about that lock motors. That's next....
Thank you I just bought a 98 s70 and have to replace the lock actuators on both back doors. Now I know what to watch for when I pull both panels If you haven't tryed it. J.B. weld for plastic works great. I put the side mirror housing back together on my wife's van with it. 2 years later it is still holding strong
Thanks Robert, altho I have a 2002 C70, I still get helpful tips from your videos. I'm getting ready to replace the window regulator cable on my power window, drivers side. I found the part on ebay, so now I'm t ry ing to figure out how to get the door apart without destroying it. Thanks for the videos!
+Robert DIY I know you're right about that Robert! I've seen several video's on the procedure, but none on the basic door panel removal for the 2002 c70. I may get started on it this weekend.
I just changed my 1998 V70 driver latch. It does not let you disconnect the window rail making it a tight squeeze to pull the latch out. Putting it back in requires you to remove the outside handle (two torx screws under a flap) and also a rubber snub over a inspection hole so you can line up the lock assembly as you install the latch. You have to install them concurrently pushing the outside lock/handle in as you line up the inside latch. I put a flashlight inside the door to see the detail in the tiny inspection hole in order to line everything up. If you do not do this your key will not work in the latch since it get jammed as you miss lining it up and you tighten the latch on to the lock mechanism which I did at first. It did not damage lock assembly fortunately. Great video thank you for the help. I hope my 1998 advice can help someone too.
Very helpful Videos, I have see other videos of your and they are all very good. Thank you Mr. Robert for taking the time to explain and share your expertise. One Question, my S70 passenger door is sagging or hard to close. Is there an adjustment that I can do OR this is a job for a body shop ?
Patrick Barbary Are the bolts tight? If so, you can try to loosen all 4 hinge bolts, raise the door a little, then tighten the bolts back up. Maybe that will help. - Door removal, installation, replacement, Volvo 850, S70, V70, etc. - VOTD
Hi Hussain, what year is the car? They did not make V70's in 1990. Besides that, you have broken wires at the drivers side hinge. You have to remove 1 or 2 screws, pull the panel off, and figure out which wires have broken, then splice them together. You can use a ohm meter to probe the wires one by one and fix the broken ones. If I get a video of it soon I'll post it. If you subscribed to my channel you will get a notification.
great job Robert.Question on a Volvo I have. 1998 Volvo s90 where exactly does the heater control valve sit?? I think that whoever had the car before used aftermarket heater hoses and heater control valve, and it sits too close to the engine, and they start to leak after a few months. I just bought all two new hoses and heater control valve at the dealer, and was wondering where it is suppose to sit. I think its somewhere on the firewall. I can't find a picture of the location of the heater control valve anywhere online.
+Raul Romo I'm not sure. My guess would be that it's just leaking after 19 years. If you can, bypass it from the engine side for now and I'll try to make a video over the summer.
I have replaced it with 2 aftermarket heater control valves and they leak after a few months.. I finally went to the Volvo dealer and broke out and spent $80 for the original and $60 for both molded hoses. I went to the junkyard and saw where and how the heater control valve is mounted. it needs a bracket, I picked one up at the junkyard. the dealer said it didn't need one. they were wrong. it mounts to the firewall with a bracket and a 10mm bolt. I will try and make a video showing my replacement and hoses.
Thanks a lot for the great advice yesterday I had chance to do it thanks for the advice ,all cables were cut I reconnect all and all locks ,lights and wiper working ,thanks again
Hi Robert, great videos. I have a C70 2004, convertible soft top, great car but started to have some problems. I have to replace the motor for the front driver window, i succeed, took me a while. I just have a problem maybe you know how to fix it. The window goes to far down. I need to make it stop maybe 1/2 inch before it does now. Makes the noise like is falling and click and clack. I think this will be call the vertical adjust. Can you give me an idea. Im in North Carolina, in Durham. Thanks. Marcelo
Two problems I got here: 1st: My driver window opens awry. How to fix it? 2nd: My rear windows does not open. I know that it's problem with a window control block, but does it fixable? Or I just have to buy new one?
***** Not sure on your model but mine has child proof locks on the rear windows. You turn them on and off by pulling up BOTH rear window switches together on the drivers main switches. Might be worth a try.
Hey Robert, I saw your video and noticed a lot of issues with vinyl coming off from the doorpanels of the much appreciated V70 / S70 Classic overseas. Here too by the way. So knowing how to take the doorpanels off for any repair is always good to know, but I thought you also might like to know that we are working on a repairkit for this issue called 'Panelpads'. The Panelpads project is still experimental to a certain extend but success is coming our way. You can follow the Panelpads development through Twitter #panelpads. Keep on the good (Volvo) work, so do we! ;-)
I don't think so. I can pull one next time I go to the salvage yard. What you need to do is remove the screws that mount the latch, pull the 2 screws that mount the release handle, then pull the lower screw that holds the window trim. Next work the latch out enough to unplug the 2 connectors at the bottom of the latch. Going back in you need to carefully install it so the pull stud slides in the latch properly.
Robert, quick question if I may. I have a 98 Volvo S70, the drivers window does not work. I tried a new switch and it still does not work. I have come to the conclusion it's the motor. When purchasing a new window motor do I need both the motor and regulator or just the motor? I do thank you in advance.
The motor should come without a regulator. Most people get them used due to the low failure rate. I know a guy that has a used motor you can get if you'd like, private message me.
Hi Robert, i was wondering if you could make a video on how to fix the trunk. Mine won't open anymore. I put the key in and it makes a noise and it won't open. Do you know what might be wrong? Thank you!
Vanessa Mendoza Not sure about what might be wrong but I'm working on a video showing how to open it. My phone which I use to make videos is DEAD. Won't even power on and show me anything on the screen right now. :(
Vanessa Mendoza Well, I'm kinda stuck with that situation. I need to purchase a phone out right. If I use an upgrade or purchase one on my phone account, I will loose my unlimited data, which is very important to uploading UA-cam videos. :/
This could be good news. I know there is a blue Key Chime relay box. Is that the one? Anyway, I unplugged the cable coming from the latch assembly and the chime stopped. Now my dome lights function properly. Cant wait to fix this problem for good. Thx
Hey Robert thank u 4 the vid on opening a stuck door on a v70 that won't open from the inside or outside. My question is after opening the door how do I fix the problem?
Robert Jackson Again, I have NO KNOWLEDGE about the parking/emergency brake. I never set mine. As for the door, as I stated, you need to remove the panel and look. Or you can bring the car by, I'd be glad to look at it for you.
If the mounting points, for the door panel pins break off of the panel itself, the quickest and most secure way to fasten them back on is Contact Cement, rather than glue. It bonds instantly and will never come apart again.
@@RobertDIY it used to come in a metal can exactly like a paint can. it is liquid and goes on with a brush. they used to come in small amounts like pvc pipe glue with a brush in the lid because if the glue dries on the brush, it becomes useless. any store that sells a variety of glue might have it, a big ACE hardware, kmart or home depot, i assume. you paint it on in a thin coat on both surfaces that will contact each other and let the glue dry for a prescribed time, perhaps 30 minutes. if you forget and let it dry too long, you can re-coat it. it gets dry to were it seems like it is not sticky and when the 2 parts touch and then are forced together with a clamp or nails, they will not come apart. it is used for making shoes and formica countertop laminate, they use a roller to force the laminate onto the wood counter top. i tried E600 glue from the dollar general a month ago and now i have to tale the panel off again and i'll see how it worked
Thanks for another helpful video. I am having problems with my interior light switch not opening (turning off the courtesy lights) when I shut the door. Any trick to fix this problem? Thanks for your time!
Robert, your videos are great. I have a 1998 volvo s70 my cable broke on passenger side door and couldn't open the door on the inside. I took the panel off and found that the end of the cable had a piece of plastic that was broke causing the cable to come out. I ordered a new cable and installed it. Put everything back together. But now can only open the door from the inside. I made sure the handle is attached to the latch, it appears to be, i can feel the latch move when I pull on the exterior handle. But when I try your trick of pulling on the handle and manually moving the lock it won't work. Any suggestion would be helpful. Best regards Chris
Robert, thank you for the quick reply. I think I found the problem. I found this on the web from another person that had the same problem "When I got out the door lock, I found a little plastic ring/tube there that moves up and down in a little curved groove. When the ring is in a downward position the door can be opened from the outside, but when it is in an upward position, the door cannot be opened from the outside. So, when the central lock is used on the remote that little ring moves into the upward position thus locking the doors, like it should be. Now I finally get to my real problem. In my case that little plastic ring doesn't go back into downward position after I unlock my doors using the remote, it stays in that upward position thus making the door unopenable from the outside." When I put mine in the down position, it will open from outside. It looks like I will have to find a new actuator/lock system. Thanks Chris
Hey Robert, Thanks for posting this. I also have a question: I am getting a knocking/clicking sound when I open the driver's side door on my '98 V70. What would you do to trouble shoot this? I heard that there is a sort of bushing that can wear out that will make this noise.
Hi, thanks for the great video, we are replacing the front and rear doors on our 850 wagon. We'll have to change the door panel and your video helps with that but also the door locks. Does what you are calling the latch include the lock, or is there more to take off? Might be obvious once we start but thought I'd ask, thanks!
Thanks Robert. I own a 2008 Volvo XC70. The driver side door handle doesn't open the door. I must roll down the window and open it from the outside. When rolling down the window, the window slows down like something is in the way. I believe the internal handle release piece may have broken and needs to be replace. The electronic door locks work, so it must be a internal piece that have broken off. What is your opinion? I watched your video to remove the door panel for S70 and V70, but is it the same for the XC70? I want to make the repair myself to save on my out of pocket expense. Also, the emergency brake handle (electric: press to engage and pull lightly to release while stepping on the brake). My nephew pulled it too hard and didn't put his foot on the brake while pulling it and the black cover piece broke off. I tried to unscrew the internal piece but didn't have the proper screw remover. Now, I'm pressing the tiny white tab with my finger to engage and reaching up higher to press the other white tab, while pressing on the brake, to release the emergency brake. I want to replace it myself, what is your opinion?
Thanks! I too would like to see you reassemble the door. I have a window regulator that I believe to be bad (motor hums, but window doesn't go). There is a lot more to it than I realized, but just a lot of time (which I have). I didn't know I needed a tool to release it so, I paused your video, googled it at Autozone and see that it's like $5.99 (Yea!). Okay, thanks, I will keep you in my favorites!
Hi, 2004 c70, convertible...window motor hums, but it won't work. Regulators seem to all go out, from what I read, common. I don't know if I have to buy the whole thing, or is there a way to repair that part....won't know till I get in there and u don't have that tool for the clips...I'm glad I watched that. I probably would have broken them getting it off...thanks.
thanks for info... but My S70 driver door won't open at all ... assume latch/lock has failed/stuck in closed position Any suggestion on opening / removing panel while door shut to gain access to damaged latch/lock (complicated by closed inoperarative window)
Thanks for the video. Do you happen to have one on changing the power lock actuator and/or module on the v70? Is it just as easy? Mine is a 98 v70 t5 Thank you so much.
Hi Robert, I really appreciate the videos that you make. They have helped me a bunch. I have a 97 Volvo 960. Do you know what I may need to do...my exterior drivers door handle stopped opening the door, but the inside driver door handle opens still. The exterior handle doesn't have the same resistance as the other doors that work. Do you think you could tell me what I need to most likely fix? Thank you, Jason Condie
On the x70 series cars? Where the panels pouch in when the vinyl shrinks? Man, I believe they sell those inserts at the stealer. The best thing to do would be to swap in the R style door panels, they don't do that. I'll put that in my video que.
Hi sir, hope you are will I had problem with tailgate of V70 1990 first start auto lock didn't work for a while ,then the trunk light ,followed by the back wiper , I was trying to take to volvo mechanic but I think he will charge a lot for what I think some thing I could do it with your instruction , God Bless
Hey Robert, I have 2000 Volvo S70, my front passenger side door latch won't go up when i open the door, but it goes down when I lock the car. Note: The door is locked when the latch goes down. Do you know what is the problem with door latch? Thanks
Thank you for the video, but I wish you had also walked through the replacement of the panel. My panel came loose on its own and I am having trouble getting it reattached.
Hello Robert- thanks for your video! I am working on my 2002 Volvo S60 ( replacing the rear passenger door actuator) but I'm having issues because the rod ( I believe goes under the door handle) has come out and I am not sure how to reattach it. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have a picture of the piece but it is not the piece that has the door latch on the end.
if the master switch and the switch on the rear door doesn't do anything how many times do window motors goes in the s70 cars? just bought a s70 and both switches don't move the window??? also is there a way to fix them saggy middle of the door middle panels?
There is a lockout switch on the master switch pack. Make sure that is not off. I have only heard of 1 window motor ever going out in these cars. The dealer may still sell those door panel pieces. That or snag some from a junked car.
Hey Robert and thanks for great videos! I am from Sweden and ironically I have encountered a problem with a volvo s60 2002. When I press the lock button on the key pad, all the doors lock but then the front left door re-opens again. I have read on several bloggs that this is actually a common problem among volvos from 2001-2003. Have you ever faced this problem? If yes, what did you do? Once again thank you for great videos! ///Leo - Sweden
Hello there sir, I have a question! My Volvo C70 door lights on the driver side and beeping noise constantly on while I am driving. You mentioned something in this video about light controll plug, could that be an issue or you might know what it is? Thank you in advance for all you vids and all you do.
Often people replace the sun visor and cut the wire instead of unplug it. This can cause a short in the door chime relay. There can also be a defective door latch. Try spraying some WD-40 or something in the latch and see if it goes away. You can also remove the door panel and unplug the latch to see if that makes it stop. The relay for it is under the dash above the brake pedal, some people just pull it.
Robert DIY Where can I disconnect the sun visor wire? I separated the leads and insulated them after cutting the wire. Had to do this because visor was always hanging down.
Robert DIY Thank you Robert for the advice, I removed the door panel and unplugged the latch clip like you mentioned and everything is good now, except I cant open the passenger door from the driver side with the key but I can do it from the inside the car so that's no biggie. The main thing the noise have stopped and the lights are all of in the can, therefore the battery stays charged now! Thank you!!!
great vid. my 2004 c70 passenger side door won't lock anymore and the little lock button indicator won't go up. even if that button is in the lock position i can open the door from the outside. any idea what's wrong?
Robert, very helpful video. Here I a link for getting out the driver door latch/actuator. It requires removing outside door handle. very detailed instructions and tips to do the job. I'm going to try myself. Thanks for your videos.
Robert DIY Robert, The key to fixing driver door latch is to remove outside door handle. For re-install the door lock cylinder needs to be removed. Make sure door latch lock is in (up) open position when reinserting door lock cylinder. reinserting the window guide was impossible for me but wife's small hands got the job done. I hate to say it but it is almost mission impossible. also, removing the door red light helps in screing window guide back in.
Hi Robert, front driver side door of my volvo V70 (1999)is locked, can't open it from either side, can you please help me with it, how to remove door panel, and to solve the problem
Hi Robert Using my wife,s sine on Got a Volvo 98 S70 Power mirror switch is not working and there seems to be now power to it. Switch is not lit. Fuse box says that power mirrors & rear defog are on the same fuse. Checked fuse, changed it just in case. Rear defog works power mirror switch does not. Any advice . Thanks Rich
Dear Robert! I need help with the right side frontal doors, which are blocket and there isn´t way to opet it. So how I can open doors, when that both cranks slips (toothing does not work).. Do You understanding please? :-(
Robert your instructions are always comprehensive and easy to follow unlike the majorityof diy car maintenance videos.Keep up the good work and many thanks.

I found the part on ebay, so now I'm t ry ing to figure out how to get the door apart without destroying it.

I may get started on it this weekend.
+Just Ron I think they have been destroyed on the one in the junk yard.
Thanks Robert! Just bought my daughter a 99 S70.. your videos are informative and easy to follow!!!

Well that is going to make life easier when I need to get the window motor out of my S70.
good deal.
Best regards
Chris
Is it locked?
Robert, thank you for the quick reply. I think I found the problem. I found this on the web from another person that had the same problem
"When I got out the door lock, I found a little plastic ring/tube there that moves up and down in a little curved groove. When the ring is in a downward position the door can be opened from the outside, but when it is in an upward position, the door cannot be opened from the outside. So, when the central lock is used on the remote that little ring moves into the upward position thus locking the doors, like it should be.
Now I finally get to my real problem. In my case that little plastic ring doesn't go back into downward position after I unlock my doors using the remote, it stays in that upward position thus making the door unopenable from the outside."
When I put mine in the down position, it will open from outside. It looks like I will have to find a new actuator/lock system.
Thanks
Chris
Hey Robert,
Thanks for posting this. I also have a question: I am getting a knocking/clicking sound when I open the driver's side door on my '98 V70. What would you do to trouble shoot this? I heard that there is a sort of bushing that can wear out that will make this noise.
***** May be the check strap. You probably need to replace it before it gets stuck and tears the metal on the door or door jam.
Robert DIY Can I use this video to learn how to dismantle it? Thanks.
No, I may have another one, if not, I'll make one soon. You do have to pull the panel, remove the strap and install another one.
Robert DIY Cool. Let me know if you put one up. I've got a Hastings guide too, which I'm sure has some info on replacing the strap.
Hi, thanks for the great video, we are replacing the front and rear doors on our 850 wagon.
We'll have to change the door panel and your video helps with that but also the door locks.
Does what you are calling the latch include the lock, or is there more to take off? Might be
obvious once we start but thought I'd ask, thanks!
Lock is part of the latch.
Robert Jackson Check this video. Something in the door may have come loose. - ua-cam.com/video/8sf9Z0Uvx9E/v-deo.html
Robert Jackson I have no idea what is going on in the vehicle with the parking brake thing. I don't think I have even been in a V70 newer than 2004.
What kind of car do you have?
Hi, 2004 c70, convertible...window motor hums, but it won't work. Regulators seem to all go out, from what I read, common. I don't know if I have to buy the whole thing, or is there a way to repair that part....won't know till I get in there and u don't have that tool for the clips...I'm glad I watched that. I probably would have broken them getting it off...thanks.
+SKenneyGIrl Tan I'll try to remember to check today. I'm sure the motor comes with a regulator.
Thanx Robert
I'll give it a shot & let u know how it goes
+Jb jb Cool.
thanks for info... but My S70 driver door won't open at all ... assume latch/lock has failed/stuck in closed position
Any suggestion on opening / removing panel while door shut to gain access to damaged latch/lock (complicated by closed inoperarative window)

Thanks for the video. Do you happen to have one on changing the power lock actuator and/or module on the v70? Is it just as easy? Mine is a 98 v70 t5
Thank you so much.
+Jason Condie replace the exterior handle.
Robert how about video on fixing the floppy door panel inserts...
you know what im talking about the floppy comers of the door panel
On the x70 series cars? Where the panels pouch in when the vinyl shrinks? Man, I believe they sell those inserts at the stealer. The best thing to do would be to swap in the R style door panels, they don't do that. I'll put that in my video que.
Hi sir, hope you are will I had problem with tailgate of V70 1990 first start auto lock didn't work for a while ,then the trunk light ,followed by the back wiper , I was trying to take to volvo mechanic but I think he will charge a lot for what I think some thing I could do it with your instruction ,
God Bless
Nice fishing rods on the back)
Wish I was using them right now.
Hey Robert! Could you do a video on how to change the dome lights in this car?

Hey Robert, I have 2000 Volvo S70, my front passenger side door latch won't go up when i open the door, but it goes down when I lock the car. Note: The door is locked when the latch goes down. Do you know what is the problem with door latch? Thanks

Hello my s70 passenger side door doesn't lock at all, from inside or out. Any idea wat it could be?
hi Robert - Love your videos! Do you know if a door latch (L rear) for a 2000 S70 will work in a 2000 V70 wagon? They look pretty similar.
Best way to tell is to go to a parts website and see if both cars have the same part number. Yes
Thank you for the video, but I wish you had also walked through the replacement of the panel. My panel came loose on its own and I am having trouble getting it reattached.
+Calvin Habig I did a video on putting that back together. I will make another one tomorrow. (I have one in pieces now).
+Calvin Habig Might be in here: ua-cam.com/video/m1UGEJxwamU/v-deo.html
+Robert DIY Thanks. I'l look for it.
+Calvin Habig Nope. Thanks anyway.
+Robert DIY Any progress on making that new video or do you have a link to the old one? The link you put below is not it. Thanks.
Ouch! I don't know how it goes. I'll try to check tomorrow. Is it loose from the inside handle or the latch?
The link took me to my photos.
The picture is attached to your video that you posted 3 days ago titled Worked on Peaches stuck key.....
if the master switch and the switch on the rear door doesn't do anything how many times do window motors goes in the s70 cars?
just bought a s70 and both switches don't move the window???
also is there a way to fix them saggy middle of the door middle panels?

Leo Markovic Bad latch.
Robert DIY
Where can I disconnect the sun visor wire? I separated the leads and insulated them after cutting the wire. Had to do this because visor was always hanging down.

Thank you Robert for the advice, I removed the door panel and unplugged the latch clip like you mentioned and everything is good now, except I cant open the passenger door from the driver side with the key but I can do it from the inside the car so that's no biggie. The main thing the noise have stopped and the lights are all of in the can, therefore the battery stays charged now! Thank you!!!
Good to read. Have a great week.
great vid. my 2004 c70 passenger side door won't lock anymore and the little lock button indicator won't go up. even if that button is in the lock position i can open the door from the outside. any idea what's wrong?
Bad latch.
so i need a new lock actuator?
New latch assembly.
Robert, very helpful video. Here I a link for getting out the driver door latch/actuator. It requires removing outside door handle. very detailed instructions and tips to do the job. I'm going to try myself. Thanks for your videos.
***** The video doesn't show how to get the latch out?
Robert DIY Robert, The key to fixing driver door latch is to remove outside door handle. For re-install the door lock cylinder needs to be removed. Make sure door latch lock is in (up) open position when reinserting door lock cylinder. reinserting the window guide was impossible for me but wife's small hands got the job done. I hate to say it but it is almost mission impossible. also, removing the door red light helps in screing window guide back in.
OK. The drivers door is tricky but you should remove the small rubber plug to make sure the handle rod fits into the latch properly.
What's up man I have a 2004 volvo s60 regulator went out would still be the same process as this
Let me go check with a S60 tomorrow at the junk yard.
Hi Robert, front driver side door of my volvo V70 (1999)is locked, can't open it from either side, can you please help me with it, how to remove door panel, and to solve the problem
You will probably have to damage the door panel. Removing the seat may help.
Drivers door will only open from the inside, any suggestion?
1998 Volvo s90
Thanks
tammy jordan Outside handle broken. I don't have a video for it but will try to check into it soon.
Is this process basically the same as a 1998 V90?

Hi,
You have some really helpful videos, but have you any idea how to install OEM rear sunshades on S/V70 (part nr 1343231)? Thanks in advance :)
No I do not. I have never seen them.
Thanks anyway,
I got it done:)
Good.
Hi Robert
Using my wife,s sine on
Got a Volvo 98 S70
Power mirror switch is not working and there seems to be now power to it. Switch is not lit. Fuse box says that power mirrors & rear defog are on the same fuse. Checked fuse, changed it just in case. Rear defog works power mirror switch does not. Any advice .
Thanks Rich
Elaine Matt Hey Rich, likely the switch.

+Rob D Yes sir, lots of them.
+Rob D Lot's of 850 parts as well (engine and suspension). In 1999 many changes were made.
Thanks!
+cbrabb You're welcome.
What about that bubbling on the door?
