These instructions are great, but only apply to situations where the motor works well work enough that electricity can be used to move the snap-on mounting clips to become accessible. In my case the problem to be fixed was that the regulator drive motor was dead as a door nail. The rest of the regulator was fine. The tricky part is that the motor is held onto the regulator frame with screws that cannot be seen or accessed since they are on the inside of the door. The only way I know of to get the regulator out to change the drive assembly is to take the motor apart where it sits. First the motor case case needs to be removed by taking out 4 x T25 screws located on the end and pulling off the housing and magnets. Doing that may damage the motor, but who cares since it doesn't work and needs to be replaced. Once the inner rotor is exposed it can be twisted by hand to cause the window regulator drive gears to move to where the mounting clips can be unsnapped, and then the whole regulator can be pulled out. Then the motor and drive assembly can easily be removed and replaced from the regulator frame. I hope these extra tips and tricks are found to be helpful.

the video was for a bad regulator, not window motor.

@@RobertDIY I apologize for making comments that were off the subject. I'm an amateur mechanic who buys most of his Volvo parts from the junkyard. So I didn't know that the window motor is not considered part of the window regulator. Robert, I love your valuable videos. My comments are never intended to be critical. I'm only trying to give back by adding helpful information for your viewers who might be facing the same repair challenges I encountered.

@@stephenroberts4663 Well, your experience is certainly helping me! I have same problem as you with non-functioning motor and window frozen in full down position. I’m gonna try your solution. No where else on internet have I seen this solution to our shared predicament. Don’t know why motor was attached from inside the panel when on earlier models it could be unbolted from the outside without having to mess with the window mechanism.

Thanks Robert! I was trying to fix my driver side window on my 99 V70 yesterday as the window only goes down but not up if you roll it down more than halfway. I figured it must be one of the rollers that broke or the rails that needed new grease. But i coudlnt figure out how to access the roller on the right side closest to the rear mirror. I tried removing the door speaker hoping it would be an access hole behind, but no, just more metal. If only i watched your video sooner i would know that i just needed to remove the door handle.

I find that happens when one breaks, I think the broken one pops out and the stess of lifting the whole window makes the other one pop out but not break.
I swear my Saab uses identical window rollers, same size and green and everything.

    Hi Robert
Had slow electric windows and swapped these rollers, however it's still slow. Looks like the window gasket is quite "grippy". Some say silicone spray but I don't like using silicone everywhere. Any tips?

replace the gaskets. They usually have some felt on them

    Robert,
If I have to move the regulator from the back door, do I have to use rivets to re-install or can I use locking nuts and bolts with washers instead?

I don't even know what kind of car you have. Do whatever works for you. Nuts and screws work, you just need the proper size and make sure they don't come loose. Rivets are fast and easy.

    Hi Robert,
I am going to have to replace the rollers on my Volvo 850. How do you pull the window out of the door with the rollers and the guides still on the window?

    Hello Robert,
I have a problem in my 98' C70, the window tilted and got stuck, would not go up so i had to pull it up, when i pulled it, it is not Stable, if i press the up or down switch i hear the motor but it does not move, one time it went all the way down and a bit up again by only pressing the down switch.. can this be the problem?

Sounds like a problem to me. I'd have a VOLVO MECHANIC replace the window regulator.
