very nice and informative video. The title threw me off a little, because I expected that there would be problems with the RR pro in a Ddrt configuration, but I never thought that you would be solving the problem and using the device this way so nicely. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with the device. I just recently ordered myself one and I'm learning everything about it before it gets here. That's how I found your channel.
Brilliant! I was just getting ready to get one of these and realized that DdRT would suck. This is a great fix! Now I don't have to stay up all night thinking about how to make it work!
I’ve been climbing on a tautline hitch for 30+ years, just bought the rope runner pro. This device is amazing. I’m still dialing it in, but it’s made my climbing even that more enjoyable.
Yes!!! Finally. Lol there guys that have similar stories to your’s, but they will never accept a mechanical device. Im glad to hear your story man. Tie in high and have fun! 🤙🏼✌️
I appreciate the tip hoss. Notch rope runner pro is on it's way in the mail. Can't wait to try it. Got my DMM XSRE biner ready for a drt trial. Looking forward to that. 😎
It's tending the same way that u would b in srt I feel like that way u have attached the tending point on the rr to the rope would b the only way ur going to b able to use the rr in drt u are an awesome fellow and truly a tree climbing expert
4srt makes a bird cover that will get rid of the empty space in the RRpro , but won't get rid of the DRT climbing issue. Tending the RRpro like you would in a SRT climb is the best idea. Since the device is intended for srt , but you've accomplished to make it a drt device it may be what I need for my adventure.
Hey I don't have the pro, but I use the runner everyday and only the runner and only srt for everything. When I'm not using a foot and knee ascender I just clip into my chest ascender. For example I'll set a canopy anchor and work a spar up to my TIP to flop the top. Move up on spurs and lanyard with my chest clipped to my runner. I'm on km3 and it just slides right through the whole time. I very rarely have to tend it. The same with regular pruning I can set a TIP, chest clip in move straight up. The runner is top heavy and longer and engages quicker . The closer you can keep it to your body and straight it will let the rope fall through.
Great job troubleshooting a problem and coming up with a fix. Just an idea here, but could you clip the carabiner from the RRP directly around the rope and not use the piece of twine? If that lil accessary carabiner doesn't open far enough maybe there's one out there that does. I'm just thinking of durability. Thanks for another great video.
i just came across this video and that is a very good idea but works better for me is i stole one of my girlfriend hair ties and did that same concept and it works very great
There were many ways of adding a bend above the hitch. The Wrench only became a staple because of how easy it is to use and the tethered that have been developed. Putting a bend in the rope just above your hitch can be done with two carabiners and a sling. I’ve seen figure eight and a carabiner with a sling. There was also a box looking device. I’m sure you may have come across a video with someone using it.
Oh and the wrench did not invent SRT but it made SRT a more feasible option. Could you imagine trying to use a figure eight and carabiner to put a bend in the rope. And even worse two carabiners? The rope wrench easily attaches to the rope and makes for an easier climb. Have you ever tried a homemade tether? They are finicky at best. Then the tethers became the point of failure for the wrench. If the tether wasn’t stiff enough the wrench will rest on top of your hitch which meant that when you were to sit into your hitch it would bind because the wrench was being loaded into conjunction with the hitch. So then they made super stiff tethers. The next problem was figuring out a way that the tether wouldn’t completely slouch down and rest on rope of the hitch, the problem persisted. There’s all kinds of tethers out there but I think the fusion tether takes care of all these issues.
@@chtclimbing , I've tried the figure 8 method, but you can only put the figure 8 in when the rope has no tension on it. And if it's above the hitch, there's no way it going up.. it's only for working down. And if the figure 8 is below the hitch, then you have to form your hitch way above your harness tie in point to allow room for the figure 8. And once again the figure 8 can't go up with tension on it. But with the below method, the rescue figure 8 gives you a level of confidence like no other. Lock off and work. Thanks for you time and information.
Why do you have 2 carabiners attached to one another? I don't climb on a RRP but that is really throwing me off. Personally, my first mechanical is a UNI because of its versatility and most likely will never switch.......
my experience of runner pro has an disadvantage when descending process, it jams with rope , have to press harder on the top of the gear and glove must be wore... ...
Awesome climb dude. Just bee careful the accessory carrabiener doesn't catch the (BIRD) in it and keep it from engaging. I wasn't going to say anything and sound like a no it all. But if u got hurt or worse, I'd feel like poop.
yeah thats why i kept it the accessory carbiner nice and low and switch to a bigger rigging plate. very good observations. I totally forgot to mention that
Glad to see someone was looking out! I saw that the paperwork that comes in the box says to not use the SRS attachment point for MRS systems. It doesn't give a specific reason why. I didn't think about it catching the bird and keeping it collapsed. Great idea for a fix though! Just stay safe!
I’m curious about how it does on limb walks. When I limb walk with the Akimbo, it sometimes will completely let go and free fall. The lower friction point on the rope runner probably prevents that free fall. Anyone have experience with that?
If adjusted properly it will not slide after tending, even if it’s not loaded. Keep playing around with adjustment combinations, I run mine with high friction on the upper bollard and low friction on the lower bollard. If your rope is brand new it’s also going to be slippery, keep that in mind. KMiii Max is my favorite rope to run it on.
Hey man! Solid fix, going to use it. I actually use the safari as my day to day rope too. Curious if you use the same friction setting for SRT, I’m new to the rope runner pro.
Bro....that piece of string would be lost in the first 5 mins of the job.... I'll keep my rope runner pro for SRT work.... zigzag for everything else......old faithful always comes through....
Ive tried DRT and it was so slow and uses up twice as much rope and your rope is sliding over a branch . Back to SRT i went , not exactly sure what the selling point of DRT even is .
@@chtclimbing Ok right yeh that makes sense as there is half the pressure on the prusik if i have that correct . I'm a rec climber in Australia and i climb 200ft + mountain ash trees so thats probably why I'm not a fan of DRT .
If I was a rec climbing 200 footers I would go with an SRT frog walker system. That’s really cool though. I wish I had that privilege of learning how to climb massive trees. Got an instagram?
@@chtclimbing I do but i dont really use Instagram . I uploaded one of my climbs , i'll link it here if you want to see . I just hike out alone into the forest and find the biggest tree i can and fire my air cannon to get my throw line up . ua-cam.com/video/gaoSoBbu1w4/v-deo.html

Wonder if the new RR Vertex does any better in DRT?

Interesting Alexander! I would lovet to see a video on theat! Just bought the rrp and would like to see your solution.
What size rope diameter using best for you this set up

Could you attach that xsre biner direct to the chest harness? By swapping the position of the 2 carabiners on your bridge's rigging plate.
Thanks for making videos man, I enjoy them. I as well learn a lot.
alex mattyspac that’s so good to hear man! I’m glad to have contributed to your climbing
Thanks for sharing
Great review and problem solving I’ve just got my RRP what rope do you use with your RRP
Dragonfly
Interesting 👍🏻
A good method for solving DRT with friction devices. It also solve the problem with my Akimbo which would be fallen during DRT when ascending.
Climberkennyhk sorry but I can’t fix that
Love your channel btw. I watched pretty much all your videos. Lol
That's awesome dude I appreciate it a lot.
Hey man thank you for making this. I just ordered the RRP and would have been just as annoyed as you were with the trending issue lol
Is that the yale kernmaster safary rope?
i just came across this video and that is a very good idea but works better for me is i stole one of my girlfriend hair ties and did that same concept and it works very great
Why not put the carabiner around your connection part of the rope right to the chest harness connection instead of a prusic
I’ll give that a try. I made the video a long time ago and haven’t innovated on this idea very much.
Despite the naysayers, was a neat little fix to the issue.
I’d use this myself if it wasn’t for the fact I’m learning and trying to go strictly srs.
That’s a pretty cool goal. I did that as well for about a year. But then started mixing in DRT. Anyways, now I mix them both into the same climb
I've got an important question: What did climbers use before the invention of the Rope Wrench when climbing SRT? or did the rope wrench invent SRT?

@@tyhnbgtyhnbgt for sure man. Those other methods are how it began. Rock climbers been using SRT techniques for a long time.
That's exactly how I would've used this. Now I'm gonna get one

Couldn't you turn your rope runner the other direction and it keep your fixed end away from your bird

Yeah seems like it’s built for SRT only, zig zag is great for drt
Arbor Kingdom that’s not far off. It is an SRT device but I really like it in DRT and how I can transition between SRT and DRT quickly. All in one.
I'm pretty sure it's only made for srt bud

ill look into that but either way this device is brutal on ropes. so flattening is just a part of it.
