    Hi Andrew ... Really enjoyed watching this! ... it's very helpful seeing how you go about laying down paint with various techniques ... i particularly like the scratching with the pallet knife and the blending ... started doing this in my own work with some good results ... the sunset glow inthe foreground with subtle textures and a couple of pebble dots really brings the viewer in ...

    I like your use of the pallett knife. I use acrylics and do a similar thing using my finger or a piece of tissue.

    lovley Andrew, it's a fabulous beach. I managed a small painting from the cliffs last summer. I would love to come and see all your works at your exhibition but we live so far away. Good luck with the show!

    Great video, thank you for the explanation on the thick/thin paint. Definitely, Basil needs to be part of a painting or the whole painting!!!

    Lovely painting and very calming to watch it come together so effortlessly (while appreciating the relaxing music). Just finished reading your book by the way, thanks for sending it out so promptly when you’ve been busy preparing for open studios! It’s a beautiful collection of oil studies and such an interesting project to embark on, capturing the changing light, seasons and weather through your window. Very inspiring work. ❤

    oh, its beautiful! I like this type video its so enjoyable to watch you develop the painting and hear the relaxing music... did you ever try walnut oil? I really like that when I paint with oils... lately Ive been doing more watercolors. It really gives a feeling that the tide is going out and I was thinking that: I wish basil was in the painting!

    • @AndrewBarrowmanArt
      @AndrewBarrowmanArt  9 місяців тому

      thank you very much. I used to use walnut oil as it was thinner than linseed and I liked it but I tend to buy whatever is on offer

    I find highlights difficult to achieve with acrylic. Your thick white is brilliant, obviously an advantage of oil.

    • @AndrewBarrowmanArt
      @AndrewBarrowmanArt  6 місяців тому +1

      Acrylics are more difficult than people realise. I find them harder to use than oils

    • @user-ek5tz7sx1v
      @user-ek5tz7sx1v 6 місяців тому

      That is very interesting to hear. People tend to prefer water based paints, but I have seen some terrible acrylic paintings. The rapid drying is an advantage.

    I have brought out my oil sticks, been put away for a long time, after seeing your videos. Really enjoy you’d style. One question: please explain the “graphic stick” you are using. I can’t tell from the video if it’s a stick or colored pencil? Thanks

    • @AndrewBarrowmanArt
      @AndrewBarrowmanArt  9 місяців тому

      That’s great news. Glad you have retrieved them from storage. The graphite sticks I use are chunky woodless pencils ✏️

    • @AndrewBarrowmanArt
      @AndrewBarrowmanArt  9 місяців тому

      Thank you. Daylight effect bulbs or lights that imitate natural lighting as close as is possible 😃

      Oh great. I have these extendable arms that clamp on to my big easel. You can set brightness and temperature. However you basically have to eyeball the temperature as there are no actual settings. It’s the best light set up I’ve found so far. Not perfect but ok. I also had to get a smaller version over my palette as well. All LED.
