Philip Glass is the name of the composer. I don't know who that was playing the piece. The film Koyaanisqatsi was more than a documentary back when it dropped in 1983. It was a cinematic experience of time lapse photography from around the globe held together by an engaging composition written by Philip Glass that blew our minds the way the ending of 2001 A Space Odyssey blew minds in 1968. Koyaanisqatsi is a Hopi word that translates into English as "life out of balance". To hear another great composition by Philip Glass, check out he String Quartet No. 3 "Mishima" , VI as performed by The Catalyst Quartet.
In the original soundtrack, those 5 key presses were the choir chanting the 5 syllables of the word Koy-an-ne-ska-see. The visuals that were mind blowing in '83 have been incorporated so thoroughly into modern cinematography that seeing it for the first time now would likely leave you scratching your head, wondering what all the fuss was about.
Philip Glass has done some amazing stuff (Einstein on the Beach, ‘Opening’ from Five Pieces) His soundtrack stuff is interesting (but sometimes missing the visuals). - this is wonderful! I love the pipe organ.
Philip Glass did some composing for Sesame Street back in the 70's. Here is a great animation with music from Sesame Street: ua-cam.com/video/4JWwOzEDGss/v-deo.html
Didn't see this one coming. There's some pretty interesting music from this film and the other in this series, Powaqoatsi. Some much more intense than this one. Seeing the visuals that go with the music give a lot more context.

Beautiful. My brother took me to this movie a couple years ago. I don’t remember this piece of music but the movie is powerful. Nice and simple here.
The sounds you like so much replaced a male voice, extremely deep, saying Koyaanisqatsi, Great film
A masterful artist of the minimalist genre
