16 HP was from Denver. They broke up many years ago but the singer/guitarist/writer D.E. Edwards formed Wovenhand. Very similar and I saw them about 4 times. I definitely read and heard he's a fundamentalist Christian, which I oppose. But I found many of his fans agree with me. Absolute Colorado legend

I first listened to them in the mid- nineties, and grew to like them even more with their album 'Secret South', and I am a 54 year old lifelong atheist.

They were the first concert I went to on purpose as a teen. They were the best band going in Denver in the mid 90's

Not to be weird but I recommend an old friend's music, John Rasmussen. Denver experimental synth artist. He's been at it since mid 90's

Another good one. you described it well Tre when you said that their music goes really well with his voice. And it’s really well produced.

Yes, the vocal performance of David Eugene Edwards is really outstanding and always very intense. No matter if the older songs of 16 Horsepower or those of his current band Wovenhand, all his music is great, but unfortunately a bit underrated.

Interesting. This almost sounds like Television. And passages sound a bit like a toned down Black Sabbath. I stumbled across 16 Horsepower three weeks ago when I was looking for covers of the traditional song "Wayfaring Stranger" and their version came up in the search. I found four dozen covers of the song that I liked, including theirs. They kept the arrangement traditional but played it loose and added some contemporary effects. Their version was a stand out for me. Good stuff.
