    "Use a snapshackle"
When you still had ordinary shackles at Wildwind, and you had to fiddle around with boom, shackle loop, mainsheet block and shackle bolt with just 2 hands, one error - and blip, gone was the next bolt in Vassilik bay. Hundreds of them must be buried there.
I remember in one year Joe saying "we bought 40 extra shackles for the season. Now we are 4 weeks in, and have 5 shackles left".

Probably the biggest improvement i've made over the years!

@JoyriderTV why did you mention "If not racing..." are snapshackles not legal or strong enough?
      Thanks! Great video.

Very useful to me. I just rebuilt an older Hobie 16 and plan on sailing it of a beach (with waves) in Baja California. I learned a lot from your single handing techniques. I have a 30 years of expereince sailing bigger sailboats, but small Hobie sailing is new to me. Thanks for the videos.

Watch the wild movements Joe makes (e.g. going in and out of the trapeze) and yet his course is rock steady.
With all the movement of the BODY, his HAND with the tiller stays in one place.
This ability avoids a LOT of trouble.
And training that, training your BODY to achieve this independence, is no problem,
Just get yourself some fixpoint(s) (in different heights etc).put your hand/finger lightly on it and move around, keeping always light contact.
Or on a party, have your wineglass in your hand and dance around the wineglass.

My idea is you can train some specific movements/actions you need for sailing in literally "dry" mode, gaining in 5 minutes with a few repetitions, what on the boat takes years until it accumulates

Always entertaining! I've got to rewatch some of your videos on the downhaul. It must be nice to flick the downhaul off instead of unwrapping it from a cleat. Yes, it's really nice to use a snap cleat on the end of the boom. Helps me get off the beach solo safer and quicker and returning just as quick.

Yeah for sure - I think the 6:1 downhaul system is the best upgrade that you can give your boat.

Thank you so much for these amazing well presented videos... I am a seaplane pilot, kind of a catamaran... lol.. but the Hobie is more of a challenge. Thank you for all this amazing info. I respect what you do and just picked up a tired but ready to go Hobie Getaway here in Ko Lanta Thailand.... she was a mess but looking good now. Feel free to stop by... lol Launching this week!

Fellow seaplane pilot checking in who also has a Hobie 16. Seems to be a trend.

This might become one of my favorites on this channel, great summary of a single-handed session. Great conditions too! It will be nice to see a similar post but with a crew. I would love to see something like a summary in one session of how the helm should manage a newbie crew, clear and appropriate instructions from the helm to the crew for each maneuver. But maybe it's been done already??

Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, there are several on the channel - but i think you are right - new video coming soon.

That was great. When I solo my Hobie16, I preset the jib on the opposite side before going out on the trapeze . Then I just need to let it go, and it's set-ish for the other tack. You could sail it solo without a jib, but then the boat just doesn't look right.

"When you're sailing upwind, the wind is trying to push the boat backwards." Sounds so simple when you say it!

As long as you are actually sailing upwind.

Thanks for another fabulous ride ❤️👍 How can you tell when there is a gust of wind ahead?

      Good Question.
      I'll talk about it in today's Q+A

How can you tell when a gust is about to come? Or gauge how strong it'll be before it even hits you?

      That's a great question for next week's Q+A
I'm looking for dark patches on the water.
