King George, removing the front sub frame was a definite game changer in extending the life of the car 😄 loving this mini series.
Cheers Ray🙌🏼
Brings back memories of when I did mine....
Don't forget to remove the little bolt on bracket off the wishbone for the headlight leveling sensor, they don't come with the new wishbone... 👍
Ah mini subframes, nice to see some things don't change. classic ones were exactly the same
Haha!
About to purchase a 2009 S needing subframe replacement, thanks to your video, excited to get started.
just discovered my 2010 Clubman S needs some subframe work, thank you for taking the time to post this as well as your most detailed explination. Cheers
You're welcome!
Thanks for the video, enjoying the series
Great tear down ~ I’m enjoying your content cheers.
Glad to hear Ian, appreciate the support!
Hi George, really great video. Satisfying work.
Appreciate it David!
great job buddy, looking forward to more content on this
Thanks as always Gary!
Keep it up mate looking good ! Great content
Thanks mate!
Defo a good idea replacing the rear wishbone bushes. Apparently they are a pig to do otherwise 👍🏻
Yep!
Top job
Thanks Nick!
Great job Georgie
Thanks Logan!
"One time use clips" that you can actually use more than once 🤣
Congrats on the engagement mate I have one question am looking to get a bmw . I was wondering which Diagnostic tool would be best for resetting oil battery and all the good stuff .
Funny enough, I'm still deciding if I can do it myself 😆 🤣
Easy enough if you have the patience and space
Did you miss the part which attaches to the bit by the calliper?
From the wish bone
I would get the subframe sand blasted and powder coated. It would look much better and long lasting
Could do but would like to give this a go myself!
Powder coating is good when it’s done well, but it can chip easily and cause more issues. Think I’d just use some good primer and paint…..a nice red would be good!!
Get it shot blasted, this will remove ALL the rust that is impossible to remove in those tight corners and will return rather quickly. Paint with a red oxide primer within 3 hours for high rust protection and you can then paint over that with a black finish.
@@matthewhaddon599 That's what I've done on mine, it looks awesome.
Yo George how go
Hi George, is it possible to replace the passenger side (UK) front subframe extension piece?
Yes it is
Can you get the brake discs machine skimmed?
Nah they have a minimum thickness, I’ll just be cleaning these up👍🏻
It would put me off buying a Mini knowing they can rust up like this
Pretty much all cars can rust, especially those with steel subframes
Hi George…. 🤔mm… what’s the price of a replacement subframe??
Are you considering a light bead blast those arms look awkward to get at.
This is gunna look business underneath when your done🤩🤙🏽
No idea, the labour would be quite a lot by itself!
how much does this usually cost? about to buy a 2011 mini with this as advisories
No idea as I do all my own work
This is very interesting.
There’s an awful lot of work to do there, and all I hear is “this will be replaced and that will be replaced”. Sounds like you are going to spend a lot of money replacing parts.
Is it all worth it?
Ok your skill and labour costs are yours, but surely that’s going to be one hell of a parts bill.
All to end up with (albeit a well sorted), old car. Do you plan to sell it on or keep it afterwards?
The design of this Mini looks very complicated (I’m on my 4th BMW Mini by the way, starting off with a 2012 cooper, currently driving a 2019 JCW Clubman).
Finding this all fascinating, and your photography and narration is brilliant👍
My plan is always to fully sort cars.. I don’t tend to skimp on costs as I want them to be reliable for myself or the next owner, whoever that may be. I’m not a car dealer so I don’t need to make profit on my cars👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters Thanks for that George. What you do is make it extremely interesting for us viewers as well.
My wife's R56 Mini Cooper S has just failed it's MOT for a rusty front and rear subframes, and I'm trying to work out whether the car is worth spending on, the body is immaculate and has a JCW kit and a low-mileage replacement engine. If I take it to a garage it will be too expensive, but I'm an old man with health issues and I'm wondering, do I still have it in me to tackle something like this myself...
It’s a common problem and they all need doing.. has the subframe actually snapped? You could just try and clean it up and paint it from underneath to get it through an MOT
@GeorgeAusters Thanks for the reply, George. Apparently, the MOT inspector was poking holes through it with a screwdriver and wasn't happy about her driving it home.. he told her to avoid potholes and speedbumps on the way home. I've not been underneath it yet to look myself, But the wife is devastated..
Wait until you get to the dust covers on the front brakes, I had to drill the bolts out and re tap the threads, what a PITA job it was. 🙂
Already all stripped down👌🏼
Would I be able to get you to service my 1 series ?
Sorry mate, can’t do private work at the moment, way too busy👍🏻
When shall we drop our car to you
I'm ready to throw my 2010 R56 in the dumpster. What a piece of junk
Why not rebuild it?
I would not waste my time on this.....I would waste my time and effort on a REAL CLASSIC CAR
This will be a classic car in 10 years time
@@GeorgeAusters No it won't. It costs much more to repair than they are worth.
We’ll see👍🏻
