Speed and stamina are determined by the total amount of weight you are carrying externally. So weapons, armor, grenades, ammo, medkits, backpacks, etc. Note that items inside your inventory and backpacks do not count toward your equipment weight. There used to be a console command to view your current weight, but I don't think it works anymore. Weight ranges have exact cutoffs that affect speed and stamina. 0-15kg gives 100% move speed, 15-25kg 95%, 25-35kg 90%, 35-45kg 85%, etc. So if you are very careful, you can create unique equipment combos that give you optimal protection while still staying just below those weight cutoffs. Med head, Med chest, Light legs, no arms plus SMG was a popular Star Marine kit for expert shooters a few years ago since it just barely retained 95% move speed while giving decent protection. However for PU, I would recommend at least heavy head/chest, as protection is much more important than a slight movement speed advantage when you're not taking objectives on a small arcade map. You can view all item weights and stats here (data mining by Dabalta). Note that certain weapons (LMGs and Karna) have very heavy ammo, so be careful with how much you equip. You can always carry extra in your backpack, as this will not count against your equipment weight. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yywS-sqVXvoWr9kfKP_QBoqJV1xUavR3M9xhdwA-2yo/edit#gid=953135858
Much of this game is still "nonfunctional" as you said Wish they would just focus on making it consistently work, and work well, before anything more. And if I see them build another set, or stupid bar, I'm just ignoring this crap after that and giving up. It's old at this point.
From my experience doing bunkers and being a loot goblin. Your weight matters. Not just the armor but the amount you carry. The heavier you are with what you wear and how much you collect causes your toon to become slower, your heart rate increases faster, and you become thirsty and hungry quicker with added weight.
one interesting little feature, when you're overheating/freezing, and you're back in your ship, if you take your helmet off, you'll get back to regular temperature much faster.
Kinda glad to hear that heavy armor may offer major limitations and have higher overall maintenance. Then again I'm happy with light armor to keep me mobile and a well modified Coda on my side, I'm not much for FPS combat but it pays to have some stopping power anywhere you go. And yes, there is a stamina difference between heavy and light, but generally it's not important unless they add in features like climbing, parkour, or other physically demanding activities.
if you're sprinting a lot, the stamina difference between heavy and medium or light armor is massive. Or on those drug missions, where you have to punch 600 boxes, it's really noticable there
Great guide! I just want to add what I have noticed. When wearing a flight suit I can seemingly sprint forever and is definately faster. When wearing light armor my character seems to be just as fast as when wearing a flight suit, but spinting for 30-45 seconds will cause a icon for my heartrate to pop up on screen, continue sprinting and the heartrate goes up even more. I believe this will eventually start becoming detrimental. In medium armor, typically the Greycat armor set, I've noticed my character is slower than in light armor and the heartrate icon comes up faster when sprinting. I don't typically wear heavy armor because it costs too much and I've noticed my character is noticably slower. That said I recently traveled to a cave roughly 40km from New Babbage. Flew my Cutty B with a Steve in the back. Was going for an investigation mission and was going to do some hand mining while there. Cave was supposed to be accesible via ground vehicles. Backed Steve out of my ship and got a radar ping on a ship. Got a little further away from my ship before the player saw me. The ship was an Avenger and it started taking pot shots at my powered down ship. I knew if I boarded my ship the Avenger would blow it up before I could do anything. In frustration I unloaded my P4 magazine into the Avenger. It saw damage and rocketed away for a few seconds then came back. Of course a chicken would attack a powered down ship. Glad I didn't have anything in my Cutlass. I resigned myself to drive my STV the 40km back to New Babbage. I could see the city lights of New Babbage for the Cutlass pilot seat when I landed. It was night and a storm was raging. My only navigation marker was the city lights and I could only see them whenever I crested ridgelines. With roughly 30km to go I managed to flip the STV over against a tree and it was stuck. This left me on foot at night, during a storm in -61Deg C weather in a basic flightsuit and a full set of the Greycat medium armor. I made it 10km before I became incapped from the cold. I did notice that I could seemingly sprint forever without having the heartrate icon pop-up. The terrain was such that I coucld run constantly. Going down one steep section I premptively pulled out a medpen and when I fell I was able to immediately administer it so that I didn't die from the fall. As the cold seeped in first my legs, then my arms acquired tier 3 injuries. Then both legs progressed to tier 2. Then I became incapped and called out for assistance in global chat. With around 40 minutes left on the timer my character succumbed to the cold and woke up in the hospital at New Babbage. Help did not arrive fast enough. I then went and recovered my things using my Avenger Titan. The recovery operation is how I learned the distances I had covered.
I think it makes more sense to do this video once they do a balance pass on components. For example there is almost no reason to swap coolers or powerplants in your ship because the different variants make almost no difference. Plus all the ship weapons are poorly balanced leading to mostly just repeater meta for everything.
@@LevelCapGaming Interesting. As a cargo runner I didnt even bother swapping out weapons much yet lol Maybe just a basic overview, to see what weapons do what (there's reapeaters and shotguns, and are size the only determining factor for ammo counts?)
Thank you, Levelcap. You cost me $100AUD yesterday. I bought the game, crashed my ship immediately. Got killed multiple times. Wasted tens of thousands of in-game credits, experienced many mission bugs. Spent HOURS running/flying back and forth to complete one or two missions... I loved it. Can't wait to see where this game goes in the future and your coverage is excellent!
Thank you LevelCapGaming for all the vids over the year and your recent increase of SC content videos! Sometimes it's difficult to talk about the many small improvements of SC with my friends, as the game isn't finished ofcourse. I'm really looking forward to SC being more complete and accessible for other gamers to enjoy and play! Stay awesome and creative. See you in the verse one day! o7
I like using light armor for my everyday running around the verse to give me that little bit extra temperature protection and carrying capacity. I prefer medium armor for Fps because sometimes the heavy armor gets in the way of the sights.
Main thing i want to learn about armor is when they're going to introduce a claims system for it like we have for ships. How many of us have cool armor that we want to use but don't because if we lose it we're not getting it back unless we do a reset? Sure, now we have persistence, but that's not a guarantee that we'll be able to find our body again before it falls through the world.
one thing you didnt mention is that, for example, even while wearing the Pembroke armor, if youre on the moon of Aberdeen for an extended period of time, exposed to the elements, your body temperature will still rise slowly over time, and you can suffer negative effects even while in the armor. id assume the same is true for the Novikov and the cold weather but i havent personally experienced it. dont spend enough time near microtech to need the Novikov armor
I initially backed *_Star Citizen_* back in 2012 based Soley on my admiration and respect of Chris Roberts. Maybe my love of all things Sci-Fi & Science Fiction had a little to do with it😁, but honestly - what CIG has done with their FPS model and the armor so far is truly amazing to me. I know, I know - "It's About the Ships". And trust you me, I've bought my fair share of cool ships but making the armor necessary instead of just aesthetic is a win-win!
one important addition to light armor- All backpacks including light packs have 2 slots for primary weapons, so that negated the 'only one primary weapon slot' of light armor.
Good overview. What does tickle me, given that these things are taken sort of seriously, is that you can survive in space with just about any loadout. Bit of a convenience given that it otherwise ought to represent the harshest environment in the game.
Seems you didn't really highlight my personal favorite, medium armor. It gives good protection from most environments and weapons as well as allowing for good mobility. It's not going to stop a full blast to the chest, nothing will, but can improve your chances of surviving a fight. My favorite medium is the Inquisitor armor. Not as fancy looking as most others, but it gets the job done. Good vid with good detailed info for new as well as us more experienced citizens.
I think and hope that armor sees more refinement and differentiation in features available. Meaning not every "heavy" armor is heavy in protection. Some are for a speciffic environmental condition (as we have seen) and others might be for load carrying. So the armor is heavy as in it is big, bulky and powered. But at extremes you get some that will soak up damage in combat but you have little to no carrying capacity and hindered mobility, it's all armor. And on the opposite end is one that has tons of storage and carrying capacity but is basically just a powered frame for this purpose and no armor at all. With light type armors being more suited for pilots as you can fit in seats and the armor will not interfere with EVA thrusters on appropriate undersuits (this is a thing, BTW, EVA is going to be a separate module or even armor you need or something built into more specialized flight suits). With medium armors being more general purpose and heavy armors being highly specialized in a given field. And then there's the Titan mech suit. Which is either a very small "ship" or super-heavy armor.
imo any ship should at least have the option for some amount of storage compartment. i would really like to see hardpoint-mountable small storage that acts like external storage (for example the little personal storage thingy behind the cockpit of the cutter, next to the bed). i'd love to be able to take out my mustang alpha and mount a little cargo pod on one of the wings for things like personal weapons, armor, a bit of grub and whatnot.
The tier of armor affects how fast your heart rate increases when sprinting, I was a heavy boi and my buddy was in a flight suit and when we were sprinting he was faster and I almost had a heart attack from trying to keep up.
When I first started in Nov 2022 armor types definitely affected stamina. I'd go into heart attack mode pretty quick in heavy. Now all the armor seems to have the same affect on stamina.
Armor for me doesn't seem to impact damage resistance (on me, but it does seem to work on NPCs). So there is only speed/weight, carrying capacity, and temp resistance. If you're doing FPS missions, you don't need heavy armor unless you want the carrying capacity.
Next LevelCap will rate the appearance of the heavy armors of the various factions in the game. I say CRU and HUR are pretty close to first place for "wow" factor.
I can't wait for the armor updates because right now, there's almost literally no point to wearing light or medium armor imo. The extra inventory space and damage reduction is just too good
For pve yes, for pvp, at heavy weight you move slow and sound like a freight train, I get alot of kills on heavy armor because they can't hear me sprinting up behind in medium.
If you do a lot of delivery missions, there is zero benefit using heavy armour, as it drains your stamina/hydration rapidly. When carrying boxes around, you want to move as lightly/quick as possible.
Personal I think the division 2 has a better less convoluted & more extensive weapons, gear, skills modification and inventory management UI setup the developers at CIG can learn a lot from the division to allow players to fit & tweet their resources for their individual playstyles
10% damage reduction may not seem like much, but it can, and often will, be the difference between winning and losing a fight. If you're raiding bunkers and fighting AI, it's less important compared to being able to run around with all your loot. If you're doing PvP and fighting over the inside of a drug lab, it, and how many grenades you have, are all that matters.
It’s all well and good CIG removing armour and making it lootable only, but if you really want a set like the Microid battle armour, best of luck. I’ve never, ever managed to find more than one or two of the four pieces for a set in a given patch. It’s such a shame, because even if I did, the rarity now makes it near impossible to risk wearing. They need to rebalance the loot table.
I kinda hope they don't make too many sets of armor and weapons impossible to purchase. I like some being looted (like rockets and some types of armor), but I also like being able to shop around for stuff I want I kinda fear they'll make everything worth while loot only which would be a little weird in terms of immersion.
yeah.... or atleast they should make these items available on an NPC black market that, unlike other shops, presents random wares to players at very high prices... meaning that you can snatch good items on occasion, but cant use it for an infinite supply of that item and arent guaranteed that what you want will be here. Why? Because that way people will not be forced into certain activities in order to obtain certain things
The difference are not to be taken into consideration between light and heavy because you die from 2 bullets in heavy anyway. ATM, armors are purely for aesthetics.
biggest downside of heavy armor is ts weight. It pretty noticeably lowers running speed, and combinign a full heavy armor with likewise large weapons is a fast ticket to bein so slow you barely feel a speed difference when you sprint instead of walking
"They showed armor enhancements last year, so hopefully that feature isn't too much further down the road". They showed Pyro and worm hole 4 years ago, and it's several more years at least until they will get to PU. CIG is good at showing footage, not delivering the actual game features.
I remember I was able to get myself into a stroke back in 2019 by running too much in heavy armor. Dunno if it was removed or I remembered something that's not true
Can I ask you ? How is it functioning in actual state of game ? If I store armors in my ship and I destroy my ship by accident or I will be shot down , I lost everything in my ships storage or no ?
I hope the redoy the armor system soon because in its current state it doesnt make much sense. Currently there are few downsides to just wearing the heaviest possible armor, you get better protection in combat, in hazardous atmospheres, can carry more on your slots and internally, and get access to the biggest backpacks. If anything with light armor you should be able to carry more as your character is not weighed down by bulky armored plates. Hazardous environment armor shouldn't also be great for combat and vice versa, a suit designed to handle + or - 225 degrees shouldn't also have top tier ballistic protection. Every suit should have a role and purpose.
As I watch this it becomes glaringly obvious they need a rework of this. As it stands just go for heavy armor. But as you think about it, a question arises. Why should heavy armor have the most carrying capacity? Shouldn't heavy armor be packed with, well, armor? With little room for bullshit? And couldn't light armor be more bulky but have more storage space than standard armor? Also, on another note, I shouldn't be able to store a bottle of water in some magical leg compartment.
I really hope they overhaul the armor system soon. It's so lame as a flat % reduction. Would really love to see 100% reduction that gets reduced as the armor gets damaged
Getting the Player Unstowed, 30018 Error and can't even launch the game. So glad they are having a free fly week with so many bugs that the game is unplayable. So smart.
1:55 If you slow it down at .25 speed first hit is right in the nuts.... lol Is it just me or the Pembroke & Novichok should be reversed...? Pembroke looks more fit for cold weather
All this but because you can't insure it most people can't be assed to get out of their hospital gown... Also shout out to my first time playing and I got out my ship to deliver a package, immediately fell over, got carried by the wind 12 yards, and died because it was too cold and I only had a survival time of like 2 minutes.
I roll in medium armor for combat, the time to kill is negligent between heavy and medium armor. The only thing i have noticed medium and heavy armor is you are less likely to bleed from being shot than with light or no armor. But the amount of shots you take are still like 4 vrs 6 from light to heavy armor, with automatic weapons there is like .3 seconds if that in those 4 to 6 rounds. I would like to see heavy armor have far more reaistance to light arms fire.
what the hell is the point of medium armor then? I mean some of the suits look cool but nothing about them really stands out. Nothing flashy. Some flash would be nice. The bull head helmet with horns looks cool. I wish there were more unique helmets like that. Maybe add more some decorative lights on the suits or something. I got tired of losing armor so i just loot the hurston security heavy armor. Also its been fun just walking around being mistaken for an npc lol.
@Nova Industries armor has been crap since inception. It ported from SM and is just arcade like. Idk what system they have planned. Player base is not up in arms no need to worry about it
My Pro TIp: Don't wear looted armor from NPCs If you die there is a high chance of items vanishing up to the whole set being gone when yo upicked up a whole set from an NPC
No disagreement on the bug being real, but there's apparently a workaround: If you take that looted armor to a station, anywhere with big-local-inventory, and take it off/put it back on, that seems to "validate" it with the server, and it should stay around from then on. Haven't tried it in 3.19, but that's what I heard.
I would still have my Artimex Canuto armor, if it hadn't been for this one person who killed me while I was doing a mission. I really would love to get revenge, but I cannot. This game is so cool, yet so hatable
I hope that if you have been given access to ships/ armor/ guns by CIG (be this on a temporary basis, or as free/ cut-price gifts), that you have been honest and transparent with your audience about this.
I wish I could keep armor for more than 10 minutes before my character glitches out and I lose the armor by dying or it just removing itself from my character 😅

I’ve never, ever managed to find more than one or two of the four pieces for a set in a given patch. It’s such a shame, because even if I did, the rarity now makes it near impossible to risk wearing. They need to rebalance the loot table.
We need a video all about aesthetics. What I need to know is where can I get blue and gold armor that matches my invictus blue ships ? hahaha.
I watched this video bc I was trying to figure out how to equip the armor I bought in the game
Great info thx.
Awesome content!
I kinda hope they don't make too many sets of armor and weapons impossible to purchase. I like some being looted (like rockets and some types of armor), but I also like being able to shop around for stuff I want
I kinda fear they'll make everything worth while loot only which would be a little weird in terms of immersion.
yeah.... or atleast they should make these items available on an NPC black market that, unlike other shops, presents random wares to players at very high prices... meaning that you can snatch good items on occasion, but cant use it for an infinite supply of that item and arent guaranteed that what you want will be here.
Why? Because that way people will not be forced into certain activities in order to obtain certain things
I wear a Pembroke helmet with full medium armor so I can stay outside in the heat for long periods of time without sacrificing vision or speed
Good job on that tutorial video
I dont even play star citizen but I enjoyed this video
nice analysis
So smart.
I purchased amor from the RSi site and it shows in the hanger but its not showing up in the game. I think I;m missing something.
Speed movement have been missed in this video. Otherwise it is a nice one.
1:55 If you slow it down at .25 speed first hit is right in the nuts.... lol
Is it just me or the Pembroke & Novichok should be reversed...? Pembroke looks more fit for cold weather
All this but because you can't insure it most people can't be assed to get out of their hospital gown...
Also shout out to my first time playing and I got out my ship to deliver a package, immediately fell over, got carried by the wind 12 yards, and died because it was too cold and I only had a survival time of like 2 minutes.
Good vid tks m8
I roll in medium armor for combat, the time to kill is negligent between heavy and medium armor.
The only thing i have noticed medium and heavy armor is you are less likely to bleed from being shot than with light or no armor.
But the amount of shots you take are still like 4 vrs 6 from light to heavy armor, with automatic weapons there is like .3 seconds if that in those 4 to 6 rounds.
I would like to see heavy armor have far more reaistance to light arms fire.
Im a morozov man.. i love it
So my armor I bought as pledge respawns when I die?
what the hell is the point of medium armor then? I mean some of the suits look cool but nothing about them really stands out. Nothing flashy. Some flash would be nice. The bull head helmet with horns looks cool. I wish there were more unique helmets like that. Maybe add more some decorative lights on the suits or something. I got tired of losing armor so i just loot the hurston security heavy armor. Also its been fun just walking around being mistaken for an npc lol.
The Oni helmet looks badass too
What dmg reduction ? Sometimes it just feels paper thin...
3 letters.... ADP armor that's all you need
The 2 x mining turrets on a Mole are 'outdoors'. Novo useful? o7
i cant wait when ships get armor
If they took out everything that wasn't functional yet how much would be left?
Great video. Armor is worthless from a tactical stand point. The 40% reductions dont do much. Your better off praying desync saves you
@Nova Industries armor has been crap since inception. It ported from SM and is just arcade like. Idk what system they have planned. Player base is not up in arms no need to worry about it
My Pro TIp: Don't wear looted armor from NPCs
If you die there is a high chance of items vanishing up to the whole set being gone when yo upicked up a whole set from an NPC
@@dhabu9017 that could work, maybe it has to assign an ID which is also done when you buy something and it enters an inventory first, thanks
I would still have my Artimex Canuto armor, if it hadn't been for this one person who killed me while I was doing a mission. I really would love to get revenge, but I cannot. This game is so cool, yet so hatable
I hate relative damage reduction. Don't even call it like that, it is just more effective hitpoints.
I hope that if you have been given access to ships/ armor/ guns by CIG (be this on a temporary basis, or as free/ cut-price gifts), that you have been honest and transparent with your audience about this.
wow thats insane
I want night vision!
0:49 🎩
Let‘s not forget that backpacks, ammo and weapons reduce damage by 100%. Novikov all day 😂
Just use heavy until they actually do something with it ;)
When a bug can have me trip over my own feet and die while wearing heavy armor, all armor is pointless.
use the 200k vlog present on yourself
I wish I could keep armor for more than 10 minutes before my character glitches out and I lose the armor by dying or it just removing itself from my character 😅
