  • Blenko Glass, located in Milton, West Virginia, makes hand-crafted glass items. The company's factory is located not far off the Interstate and it has a gallery from which you can watch glass pieces being made. This video shows the steps to make a "Bella Bocca Pitcher," which is a colored glass pitcher in the company's catalog. As you can see, good old American craftsmen create and shape the glass with their hands and skills. It was really quite hypnotic to watch. I have more video clips showing the finished glass pieces, and I may put that together to complement this.
This was shot and edited in HD, using my Canon Vixia HF11 AVCHD camcorder. Some minor steps and drawn-out steps were either shortened or eliminated to keep this as short and complete as possible. I hope you enjoy it.

Unbelievable! Congrats on the beautiful glass! At any second, something could go wrong. Nerves of steel.

well that was a pretty awesome video nonetheless. For glassblowers the only real way to consistently make money is to do production stuff, so its always great to see :)

@@BobKovacs yes, Bob, thanks for the video, yet ...I was yelling about the glass artists, mainly! Lol. I want to see a video with the artist and their name and what works are theirs!?!?

I don't really know anything about the process or materials they use... it was just so interesting watching them do this. I'd love to go back and make a better video, especially if I could get access to the factory floor and do an interview or two.
    Anyway, thanks for the comments!

yeah the furnace we use at school puts out about 80 decibels, but we're a pretty lively bunch at school, those guys are just quietly competent pros. I'm jealous though, whatever batch they're using stays pliable WAY longer than what we put in our furnace.

  • @BobKovacs

Actually, there was a constant roar from the furnace, loud enough that it drowned out any conversation more than a dozen feet away. However, people were mostly just doing their jobs and not talking much when I was there.

Very nice video! What fun to see them making another item. We were just there on Aug.13, 09. See my video for the making of another piece: search Blenko Glass Factory. This is the best glass factory I have seen to date (3rd one). I love how you can see everything they are doing from first step to last!

    • @BobKovacs

***** Thanks for the nice comment. I like making videos that tell a story. I realized standing there watching this team of artisans that I could tell the story of how one item was made. It's fun to do that, so I enjoyed the process. (This video actually shows three or four different glass objects being worked on, but I edited it to make it appear that it's all one item.) Hard to believe that this is now more than five years old... I still have that camera and still occasionally use it.

Here is a video (Called Batching Blenko) guiding you through the factory, from making the glass from raw materials all the way to finished product. ua-cam.com/video/WKculWCCw3Q/v-deo.html

I shot my video years ago, but had to stay on the public side of the fence. It would have been great to get the angles that this person was able to get.
