  • Founded in 1608, Quebec City has done a phenomenal job preserving the historic buildings in the Old Town, which are situated within the fortified walls. Old Town Quebec has so much to see and do, and in this video, we provide a travel guide to show you what to do and see in Old Quebec City. We check out Place Royale, Umbrella Alley, Quartier Petit Champlain, the Breakneck Steps, ride the Funicular and so much more!

My family went to Montreal last year for three nights and is planning to go back this spring. I am thinking of staying in Quebec City for three nights and Montreal for 3 nights. With the first night being a write off since we will arrived after dark. Just checking it to see if 3 nights would be enough for Quebec City vs 4 nights. I am hoping to go back to Montreal in the future while we head to Ottawa and a road trip to Montreal anyway. Thanks in advance!

Québec is one of the few cities in North America where gastronomy is accessible to the average person. Of course there is everything from fast food to pizza to breakfast restaurants. I am going to Quebec City in June and I'm really looking forward to it. I had already planned to visit many of the sites you mentioned in the video, but now I have added the sugar shack to my list. Quick question: is knowing French essential when visiting Quebec? I took high school French and know some basics, (I've been learning some phrases I might need to say) but honestly, if someone started talking to me in French, I probably wouldn't be able to understand them. If that happens, I'm ready to say, "Je ne comprends pas...parlez-vous anglais?"

I think if you stay right in Quebec City, they are quite tourist friendly and it shouldn't be a problem. To be honest, we've never had a problem with our limited French, but we always make sure to at least greet people in French, and to be aware that we are the visitors in their city and not expect them to speak English (although for the most part they do). We have found that if you are polite and friendly, they will be too. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time :)
