    One i reccomend is a merino balaclava, super cozy and you can wear it as a snood or just a hood too

    Gave me things to add to MY Christmas wish list. I had been wondering how octa fleece would hold up in Tasmania - thank you!

    Then that classic when you get older was the new pair of socks, as a kid you thought nothing of it, but that feeling of new socks there is something about it.

    I enjoy the wide variety of topics, the humour and sincerity of your presentations, Mowser - thank you. With this one, I was waiting for the offer of ‘a free set of steak knives’….haha. Great work 😃

    I try to bear Hang like Americans to keep critters, dogs, pigs, possums, etc away from food and out of my tent. No eating in the tent. I also take a Zpacks dyneema tarp for rain cooking and eating away from the tent I live in Western Australia. Trees aplenty. Thank You, Ray.

      That's a smart approach! I have done the bag hang when trees are available. Sounds like you're well-prepared for your adventures in Western Australia! I love a tarp for rain cooking too!

    I appreciate your videos. Can you talk in more detail about Leave No Trace principles, while sharing your experiences with these on the trail?

      Thank you for your kind words! I'd love to dive deeper into the Leave No Trace principles and share my experiences on the trail. We'll add it to the list of video ideas for 2025!

    You store your food in your tent? 😲. I’ve always been taught to store it 200 yards away from the tent in a bag hanging from a tree or a bear canister in the USA but that’s because of bears. The difference in backpacking there is interesting. Definitely different wildlife to think about!

      I meant to add, these are excellent items by the way! Adding several to my wishlist!

    • @mowsertas
      @mowsertas  2 місяці тому +1

      Yep, luckily we don't need to worry about bears! That would completely change my whole strategy with Bear Canisters etc. Very different types of hiking. Can't wait to get to North America to hit the trails though!

    There are some nice gift ideas Mowser but I’m going hardcore and have started throwing out hints to my children, grandchildren, extended family and mates for a Coros Apex 2 Pro.
    Keep up the great work with your channel mate. It is very informative, relaxing to watch and good for a laugh with your sense of humour. Can you tell me who does your map lamination in Hobart please? You did mention it in one of your videos.

      Glad you're enjoying the channel MB! Good to hear you have a present strategy in place! I get Geographica in Hobart to do my maps and i also buy all my maps from them. Great store and very helpful. geographica.net.au/?srsltid=AfmBOoqGqhAzgMTV4_HHYHfEvVlbRTOzncO-KqrH8J3W2Bnqks9EoyHE

    5:27 I had to rewind the video to make sure you claim that a dyneema stuff sack is supposed to protect against “little critters”. You said it, and I checked the link. Sure enough the company claims these are “slightly rodent resistant” and that rodents usually give up before getting to the food. If this is true, it’s impressive.

    • @mowsertas
      @mowsertas  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes but I wouldn’t want to leave it too long with a little critter as they would probably get in eventually!

    • @jeffreycarman2185
      @jeffreycarman2185 Місяць тому

      @ If given enough time rodents can chew through most anything.

  • @jeffreycarman2185
    @jeffreycarman2185 2 місяці тому +1

    7:09 you’re clearly extremely lucky to not have critters that will, chew through the tent, and crawl over you to get to food. Mice that are particularly habituated to finding food from hikers (such as trails that see heavy use and have mandatory camp sites or shelters that almost everyone uses will get your food. I’ve had a mouse climb a tree and cross a cable to get into my food bag at a set bear hang at a national park.

    • @mowsertas
      @mowsertas  2 місяці тому

      Yes, we are very lucky here. Only twice in the last 30 or so years have I had tent damage from critters

    Another cheapie idea is that little salt and pepper shaker you showed on a previous vid. I found a different brand version in the Halls Gap General Store in Vic a few months ago. It's now a staple pack item filled with salt both ends. I'm always reaching for the salt and it's easier and more spilllproof than a ziplock. Love it!

    • @mowsertas

    Another great vid mate. I swear by nitecore - coincidentally I’ve just got the gen 3 - 20000 charger - great piece of kit. The TIP SE key fob torch is another great little torch which can also clip to a cap. The North Face fleece looks very similar to my 2024 Arc’teryx delta hoody - same octo fluff stuff! Expensive but good micro fleece. All the best. Clive.

    Also, can you talk about how you got your whole family (kids especially) to appreciate hiking and embrace the outdoors?

    • @mowsertas
      @mowsertas  2 місяці тому +1

      Absolutely! I’ll definitely share some tips on how we got everyone excited about hiking and the great outdoors. We'll have a family 6 day walk coming up next year. It’s all about making it fun and engaging for the kids! We also walk everywhere around our home town as a family. This gets them used to walking smaller distances at first to regularly walking 5-10km around town from our house

      Yes just realised that. I do like and plan on purchasing the waterproof sea to summit one though. The basic sea to summit and osprey are basically the same

    My wife's food bag had a rat or mouse ate a hole in hers at Narcissus hut . Not really saying they are bad just saying that they are not infallible
