    Kind of found it funny when you mentioned in the beginning that you wanted a simple setup, and in the end you mentioned sliders, skids, bumpers, winch, roofracks lights etc will be coming 😂 I have a GX460 also, love the content 👍

      Proceeds to chop up the body and start welding new pieces on lol

      It’s definitely a simpler setup compared to some others. He’s not doing rooftop system, swing out tire carrier, shower system, dual battery system, etc.
      I like this build, something that can be achieved affordably over time and save the weekends for exploring, not building.

    Love that you started off with maintenance and addressing ANY lingering mechanical issues before diving into mods 👏 maybe we’re both getting old, but I find myself focusing a lot more on that now than I would’ve in the past, and also enjoying that part of the build process

    Just a note that for the 2022-2023 model year GX, an external transmission cooler is available as part of the off road package. However, it is only offered with the Luxury trim, and for some reason 19 inch wheels are also included which makes it more difficult to find alternative all terrain tire choices.

    I had three sets of 34 1/2” tires before going to 32.8” on my F-150. I’m much happier now-better ride, better gas mileage, better power, and a little less likely to snap components. The bigger and heavier your tires, the shorter the life on your drive line. You’ve got a winch and traction boards; I don’t think an overlander needs 35”s.
    BTW, do you carry spare tie rods? I’ve heard they’re pretty slim on the GX. I love that truck. I don’t have a GX _yet_, but there is one in my future.

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  Рік тому +1

      Totally agree with your points on tire size. I do not carry extra tie rods, but I will look into that now that you mentioned it. Thanks for the info!

    She's a beauty, and I'm looking forward to the final outcome on the GX460 build! However, I'm here for the Outback Wilderness updates... Last I heard you were picking up the 2024. Any word on when to expect videos on that if you did in fact get one? I would love to hear your thoughts on the stock 2024 Wilderness and what upgrades you'd have in store for such a beast.

    Using the vehicle on and offroad is exact reason why you need 3-way adjustable shocks. You need to be able to compensate for different weights and/or for on/off-road driving. I can't imagine driving 300 miles to my destination on pavement fully loaded on soft setting. Imagine executing an emergency avoidance maneuver with your roof top mounted on soft settings.

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  Рік тому

      I wouldn't say that it's a "need." Having more adjustability is nice without question. Folks have been running single setting after market suspension for decades with great success on and off-road.

  • @stevecarlson2346
    @stevecarlson2346 Рік тому +2

    To say the GX has "no transmission cooler whatsoever" isn't true... it does have the cooling line through the radiator. Having said that, adding an external cooler is still a good idea.

    Awesome video and quite informative. Just picked up a 460 after driving a JK for the last 10 years. You’re doing lot of the things I’d like to do to mine. It would be nice if there were some mention of costs. After dropping 30k, I need to know how to sequence my build (and budget for it.)

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  11 місяців тому

      I would head over to adventurerigshop.com and take a look and add your items to the cart to see what you're looking at in terms of budget. I don't generally list the costs of the items because it's pretty readily available. I'd be happy to share that with you if you want to send me a message on Instagram. Thanks!

    What did you guys do to address the KDSS lean? Open up valves?

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  Рік тому

      added a spacer, but we're taking the spacer out because it's causing the lean and not the KDSS. Spacer on the shock that is. Sorry for the delay.

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  Рік тому +1

      I think they're really nice rigs. Pretty pricey rig to start a build on and for me, the older tactile feel of the earlier model years with a good price point is hard to beat.

    What's the spec on your wheel? I'm hearing mix things about needing a BMC for a 33" tire..I plan on running 33" on 17x8.5 with a -10 OS. Do you think a BMC will be required in my case?

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  Рік тому

      I would have to look, but I'm almost positive they are a minus 10 offset 17x8.5. You will most likely need a body mount chop in order for the tires to clear while turning and flexing out. I would reach out to DandR motors and ask them because they will give you the honest answer for your application.

    Are you planning to retrofit Crawl Control (CC) and Multi Terrain Select (MTS)?

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  Рік тому

      I haven't gotten that far down the rabbit hole. Again, for our use of this vehicle and the type of "wheeling" we do, I don't think it will be absolutely necessary. If I find myself in that situation several times and unable to make it then I think it will be a consideration. This build is about practicality for our uses and I'm not sure that will be needed.

    • @stevecarlson2346
      @stevecarlson2346 Рік тому

      @@roamingwithjosh I added MTS and CC, and while I do play with them on occasion, and the MTS does optimize the action of the ATRAC for your terrain, I don't consider them essential.

    I went with the EimKieth bracket as well. I did see the bolt on kit, but since i am keeping this truck, might as well make it permanent. Did you end up doing the drop spacers for the rear?

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  Рік тому
