      I don't know about the honesty of the charges read off those letters, but Jordon could have made a quick point about tribalism vs self determination/ ideology. Instead again...yap, yap, yap, yap, yap......

      Sophia - Could you elaborate on the quick point Peterson should have made instead of yap, yap, yapping? If you've got a more concise and enlightening way of expressing the same points Peterson was making I know I'd like to see it. Anyone else?

    • @sophietherobot6343

      As usual he went off on a tangent to make his point. A simpler explanation, for example, would be how stereotyping comes into ideology would have been more useful: one cannot politically/ ideologically brand an individual solely based on their opinion of one topic. They must examine the reason behind it. It would have been nice if he directly had addressed those letters in this clip. He dilutes stories to make his points. I cannot to attest to a lot of his opinions as I have not seen a great deal of him on videos. What I have seen I have to say I find maddening at times. Sometimes I think he strays and never returns to the original topic.

    • @donna.g7442
      @donna.g7442 6 років тому +18

      Yes, he seemingly strays, but what he tries to do is put things into context. I do wish he would clearly affirm or deny when he closes his responses, whenever a clear declaration is truthfully possible.

      Sophia the robot well if you want to explore some of Peterson's best ideas this would be the channel for you. That is to say the clips of his that I have uploaded are what I consider to be some of his best moments and most profound statements. There are a lot of channels that just shotgun blast Peterson into the public sphere. I found this long discussion with questions and answers particularly fruitful for clips but I usually don't cut this many from a single interview. I invite you to go through my Jordan Peterson Genius playlist and see if there's anything in there you find worthwhile.

    The first time I listened to J. Peterson, I was very biased. I believed how people on the left described him (as a hateful person) and so I decided to never listen to him. Then I remember looking for motivational videos on UA-cam when I was having one really bad day and after listening to the first motivational video, Peterson’s video came up next on ‘auto play.’ I genuinely didn’t know it was him cos I wasn’t even looking at my phone screen and then halfway through the video I was like “hold on, who is this man that is speaking so much truth like this?” Long story short, I’ve been listening to him ever since that day and honestly he hasn’t only helped me change my life but he has been instrumental to my growth as a person far more than any other human being in my life for the last couple of months. Anybody that calls this man a hateful person has never listened to him.

      Love to hear that! It’s exactly the same for me, I was in a really very very very dark place. One I wasn’t sure I’d ever get out of. But I’ve been listening to Peterson, the message he has conveyed, especially the biblical stories have been a miraculous light that once was so prominent in my life, and in those darkest moments that light was flickering. I took to the Bible to read myself, understand Peterson the best I can, and put my attention outwards, to really watch the world and watch how I am in the world. It’s like I can see again. I actually laughed at the mirror because I was enjoying my time with myself. My eyes lit up. I know I’ll have bad and good days, but I’m on the path now, if it weren’t for the chaos we’ve been in politically, I’d have never gotten here the way I did. Bless this man, fuck off haters my story is true and transcends me.

      Well he gave you the answer to your question in this very video.
      The radical lefts (and this is a case for all or most radical believe systems) have no and believe in no spectrum of the believsystem itself.
      You are either with them completely or you are against them.
      Since they do no believe in a spectrum, the second they think you are their enemy they place you on the same level as the far right.
      You can see this clearly with Lindsay Shepherd. She was obviously far to the left but the moment she doubted tiny bit of the extreme leftist agenda she was marked as an enemy and placed on the right side of the spectrum.
      This I believe is the very reason Peterson fights them so hard and does not say "ah just call them by the names they want" "ahh just play along to not get under the wheels".
      He knows that extremists have no reason and cannot accept any compromise. They will not be content with anything else but a total victory.
      If you play along with them you can only lose but never win since you will never gain a compromise with them. Its like you say to them "Ok I accept a part of your agenda would you consider accepting part of mine so we are equal?" and they say "No we wont. That you accepted a part shows only that we were right."

Any type of language you don't like can be tantamount to breaking some hate speech law in some context or other. There are professional victims (and I mean litreally) who spend their time suing random women on twitter for stating they believe men and women are of the opposite sex because that sort of belief is hatespeech and transphobic to any random trans person on twitter who deems it such. It's why you see so many random activists on the extreme left argue about speech causing psychological trauma and that those who say things that are not deemed PC now are literally causing violence and suicide onto others with their words.

    People talking here about how Prof. Peterson helped them so I'd thought I share my story as well:
    In 8th grade 'ethics' class (Germany) I was taught that we shouldn't judge another culture by our (western) standards, i.e. moral relativism.
    I remember the example on which our teacher expanded this dogma like it was yesterday: She showed us parts of the (then relatively new movie) 'Desert Flower' which was a biography on Waris Dirie, a Somalian woman that was horribly abused and had her genitalia mutilated as a child in the worst conditions imaginable. IIRC, they used the shard of a broken coke bottle to cut her. The teacher then asked us utterly terrified kids whether we think what had happened to her was bad. Obviously, we all agreed wholeheartedly. Yet she said it was only our western believes that led us to that judgment, showed clips of Somalian people defending the mutilation as 'tradition' an whatnot and basically made it clear to us that it was just arbitrary happenstance that we were born and raised in Germany in this age so that we adopted this set of values and believes and it would be wrong of us force our judgments on other cultures.
    Over the course of years, this moral relativism was constantly reinforced in school and I would scoff at my father who proposed there were objectively good values. I thought he was old-fashioned and stuck inside his basic belief system.
    In consequent years this lesson made me think "If I can't even say the mutilation of a helpless girl is bad, then what the hell is even 'bad'? And if nothing's bad, what even is good?" This line of thought eventually ruined my perception. I proudly called myself a Nihilist. It was not until Prof. Peterson convinced me over dozens of hours that, even though science can't prove it, we all have to believe in something or else we'd had no motivation to continue struggling in this world.
    In hindsight, it feels like this man has pulled me out of an abyss. The political stuff, transgender issues, and everything was just the medium through which his wisdom was conveyed to me. I never perceived this man as political. I sometimes wish that I could just tell him that no matter how intelligent he is he wouldn't be able to understand the sheer vastness of the service he has done to a generation of aimless young men and women.

      holy cow I've gone through the exact same process that u went through. As a kid, i was raised in a way that encouraged me to think of the society as nothing but harshness and deception, but then as i grew up I started to realize not everything works that way and it was either me or my parents or the whole world was wrong. And then there were also some events that i couldn't remember since it happened when i was around 8 years old (but it probably similar to yours) that made me consider the fact that right and wrong is relative and nothing rly matters. I was pulled too deep into that strain of thought that my late-teenage years can often be marked with blank night thinking about what rly is "right" and "wrong" and why should i even hold on to this horrible meaningless world. I then tried to study philosophic idea of existentialism and stuff to try validating my life but the idea of nihilism was too compelling to me that my depression got worse and worse.
      Welp, now all i can say is that I am rly thankful for Prof. Peterson works and that I have the chance to access his brilliance. It rly did save my life, in a literal way.

      The comment isn't vague and makes perfect sense and in my view it is a largely correct summary of what Peterson said. The far left extremists assume that anyone opposing their far left ideology is of the opposite extreme, i.e. they are extreme far _right_ extremists. Well, "assume" might not be the best word, for I believe they _know_ that Peterson isn't really a far right extremist, but it suits their agenda, which is to silence him or have others ignore what he says. They cannot, nor will not tolerate the idea of moderation (middle ground), i.e. that a person can be moderate (not extremist), but still in opposition, because it denies them the scope to falsely accuse him or pigeonhole him as a far right extremist. At the end of the day, "CornerTalker" garnered 14 thumbs up and you received just 1, probably your own. If this was a poll, you would be the loser. OK?

I was not there to win anything, I just expressed my opinion, probably not perfect as I sincerely and probably did not grasp in its totality what CornerTalker meant. Sad to see that your heart (your dismissive last words) contradict your sensible thoughts in which you say that the leftist "cannot.. conceive moderation". You need to work in your soul as you appear to be, in the end, mean hearted and practice the deplorable sport of "pigeonholer" and the tactics that the leftist use of accusing people to suit your agenda. Another thing that robs you of the respect your first words deserve, is the cowardice and shadiness of not using your own name to attack like a murderer in the night. You didn't seem adverse to laying into him/her so rudely and dismissively when you could have been mature, engaged with him/her and politely asked for clarification with regards to what he/she said if you were struggling to understand it's merit. If you want to be treated like an adult, grow up and behave like one. Don't treat people like crap and expect to be treated with velvet gloves yourself.
      And there was nothing wrong with his/her comment, so your unwarranted, rude and abrupt appraisal was wrong, as I ably demonstrated and you have now admitted yourself. Then I merely pointed out the truth that there was a lot of support for his comment and negligible support for yours, and that's it, but of course had to have a little tantrum.
      Oh and why did you ask who CornerTalker was referring to when he/she was clearly referring to extremists, no particular brand of extremists, i.e. left or right, but extremists of any kind, because no kind was specified.
      If you couldn't understand the simplicity of that, then it's not surprising that you had a gargantuan struggle trying and comprehend his/her overall point.

      I've watched way more of Peterson then I care to admit. Mostly, because he is making crude generalisations about race and IQ which "his millions of followers" blindly believe. Of course, if Peterson spoke without hyperbole on the subject of race and IQ he would not have millions of followers because they would realise the subject is complex, difficult to interpret and summarise, and without any clear conclusions. Instead there are now a plethora of people infecting the internet with simplistic garbage about black people being born stupid and asians and Jews being born super smart. Then there is his pathetic war on women with left wing social post-modernist views. He rallies against them as if was fighting a war against tyranny. In reality, I suspect (yes, I may be wrong but...) he is fighting a war against the lefty women who work in the Sociology department of his university. Maybe one of them insulted one of his papers at a academic conference? Tiresome. I feel sorry for the poor students who sit through his lectures. He often goes one subject loosely to another, completely unprepared, with numerous references to his personal life (self-indulgent?)..."I was in a park with my daughter when..." Is that what university students are getting themselves in to debt for? Where are his detailed references to our psychological theories that don't fit into his own worldview? Some of my comments here are full of rhetoric (this is UA-cam) but importantly, his views on race and IQ are frankly stupid and I would encourage people not to listen to him on the subject and go and read actual research on the data for themselves. It's hard for most people to read and properly understand journal articles but it is better to do your own research and discover how little one truly understands, then watch an hour of Peterson and think one is now wiser and smarter.

    Good for you Jordan! As a sociologist, I find that if someone really wants to understand your point of view, words like left and right will never come up as you spoke of, but also, people who are seeking understanding ask very specific and answerable questions that you can not only explain, but even explain in scientific or psychological terms. Rather than blasting you on something that doesn't seem "right" to me, I would ask how your particular idea or view fits into a healthy currently known model of scientific understanding. That way, not only do we connect and build a bridge, but we also put another piece of truth's puzzle into place. In doing so together, we might also find out where our blind spots are, as well. Now, from my point of view - that's how we relate and grow closer together at the same time, regardless of our views. Relating isn't like winning a chess match. It's how we move together through "our" understanding, where "we" win the enjoyment of a time, well spent.

It's common sense, and if more disenchanted, young people heard it, it may help them down a good path of life. Only anger and hate leads to the dark side!

    -Jordan Peterson complimenting those who insult him

    • @nigelft
      @nigelft 3 роки тому +4

      @0x4A616B7562
      Indeed ...
      In fact people's lives _are_ the stuff of great novels, in that many have been through trials, and tribulations, that only they know. As Dr. Peterson said, there is the façade of ordinary-ness, but beyond that, are people whom live lives worthy of Euripides and Shakespeare ...
      If the writer of the first letter ever got a chance to spend a couple, or so, hours with Dr. Peterson, maybe a greater truth will come out: they may suffer from an immense disconnect with their parents; that they may have bullied throughout their entire childhood; what potential they may have had ignored by a succession of teachers; and much else besides. They're angry, and upset, and haunted, but perhaps the only way they can vent all of that, at least in the milieu they're in, is because of their --- almost inevitable -- ideological possession, is to crank of that dumb invictive, instead having someone asking them "what the hell is going on with you ...?", in a compassionate, empathic, but damn forthright way ... it reminds me of the title of that utterly bleak syfy story: I have no mouth, but I must scream ...
      This is, perhaps the most stupid thing about identitarians, on both the left, and right, but notably the left: they care so much about the collectives of identities, that they really tend, and all too often, neglect the actual individual at the bottom of it all. Granted, they have a habiti of feeding into a individual's narcissistic behaviours, but, for people whom are genuinely hurting, they offer nothing meaningful, when what is needed is the psychological, and even psychiatric, equivalent of a compassionate, but highly skilled surgeon, to go in, and remove the cancers that is destroying them.
      Perhaps I am just too compassionate, too caring, and have too much empathy for those whose lives are in utter turmoil, and chaos. I wish I have answers to those in that much mental pain ...
      But what I will never stand for is the utterances of teachers, from Junior School, to Postdoctoral level, whom hoist their own idealogical possession onto young minds, as it suits a certain poltical agenda, promulgated by the staff and administration, as high up as the President (or equivalent thereof) of that school, and the Board in charge of it ... for to use that worn out cliché, they truly have become that they sought to destroy, and are themselves determinedly destructive ...

      I don't think that's true.
      There's a perfectly logical explanation for hating Jordan Peterson; it's because he can think logically. Therefor, the best place for his critics to attack his position from is in a realm that's not in his home court, so to speak. For a malicious liar, the first person you need to take down are those who are willing to stand for truth. It's their only play in the book.
      - If you want to discredit a police officer, tell people he breaks the law.
      - If you want to discredit a parent, tell people that they're a child molester.
      - If you want to discredit an professor, tell people that they're don't know what they're talking about.

She has a very far left friend who berated her in front of her far left parents for defending JP....it was a full on massacre of my daughter and she came away feeling destroyed but mostly really angry. She has dropped this friend, who btw is biracial and refers to my daughter as that privileged white girl....yet she claims that society is racist and she couldn’t be a racist as a biracial woman. This same family told my daughter that her full ride scholarship into engineering was far easier than a liberal arts student receiving a scholarship.....these people are skewed and full of victim hood syndrome.....My daughter is brilliant, hard working and empathetic...traits solely lacking on the left it seems. They also tried to point out that engineering should be listed as a trade not a STEM. The left have somehow lost their way and this generation of college students have been so badly misled.

She has received grants from Left-leaning organizations that appear to do well for minorities, although the website syllabus begins, to paraphrase, with "Diversity and Equality of Outcome." Why would she read something from a person with whom when has lost respect; once assumed I was Liberal? Many of my friends are shocked, years later, to find I am not "one of them." What you call political correctness is in fact the religion modernism, a religion being: any set of related undoubted beliefs assumptions presumptions and norms, he calls it post-modernism and an ideology but in fact it is nothing more or less than a religion and the religion I identify as modernism because it is based entirely on fashion see the French word for fashion "mode". Quite a lot of people confuse religion with some sort of necessary implied belief in the Mr God fantasy but it is entirely unnecessary since there are plenty religions socialism and wimminism sometimes called feminism and also anthropogenic global warming_ism, all of which are religions but none of which make any particular reference to the Mr God fantasy, so you can quite easily have a religion without any necessary implication or association with or of the Mr God fantasy - all you need to do is believe or fervently believe and fervently believe in, and have various sacred cows and regard those who don't agree with you as heretics, whereupon what you have got is quite simply religion.
