    i am actually a dietitian AND went through and recovered from anorexia and i agree with what you’ve said.. during recovery you eat very differently from what would be considered “ideal healthy balanced eating” for the general population because your body is out of balance as is regaining that by gravitating toward the other “extreme”.. but that’s fine and a natural part of it and without it reaching physical and mental recovery would take much longer or wouldn’t even be possible as you need to be challenging your fear foods to regain that healthy relationship with food.. so yes yes yes keep on sharing this information for anyone who might still be in recovery and needs to hear that this is in fact normal!

      I'm 42 and at a recovered weight but still deal with all the mental bs of the eating disorder I had in my teens and twenties. I still have guilt and fear foods and check labels etc. I'm working with a dietician and therapist and have days where I feel like I'll never be ok again. I just feel stuck. Watching Ro really helps.

      We also have worked in ED recovery, and agree with what you said! Normalizing the fear foods means that eating during treatment will not always look "balanced".
      Love seeing Ro enjoy these foods again, THIS is what recovery is about!!

    You know what else is not healthy being an A-hole and worrying about what someone else is eating. I think Ro has and continues to be doing amazing , not just food wise but she seems so much happier just in herself xxx

      @eggdropdroptop9388 i'm not sure exactly but i think it was close to 2 years, one being sick and the other recovering. So just based on recovery time, about a year or so.🫶

      @@eggdropdroptop9388 Thought I'd reply to you. It varies. The first time around, after I had gotten to a healthy weight, it took about 3 months. After my second relapse, again after I had gotten to a heathy weight, it took about 5 months. The third time was a little different, because I had a mild relapse during an extremely stressful period of my life, and I have a feeling those two factors mixed together. It took about 7 months to return after reaching a healthy weight. Note that that the times I am giving are after I had reached a healthy weight. I lost my period for 19 months, 13 months and 10 months respectively - so, don't fret, keep working hard and it will return :)

    The same people who say “that’s not healthy” are the same people who will shame underweight people and forcefully tell them “omg go eat a burger!”

    • @kkhagen2170
      @kkhagen2170 9 місяців тому

      Or if someone is not super underweight they will deny they have an ED and just lucky enough to get help before that. I’ve been told sooooo many times I didn’t have an ED because I didn’t get to a very underweight body, way less than I should be as my muscle mass was almost completely gone and I should be full of muscle because of my genetics.
      I used to think I should “show them how sick I can get and then they will finally believe me”. But I’m very thankful for my parents and the support I had to overcome those thoughts.

    your rant about eating what your body needs in recovery was SLAYED!!! Im so glad you dont promote "healthy dieting" or anything and simply give a real life and realistic view on what a normal healthy person eats and functions like, and needed after a period of starvation. I think this takes away a lot of the fear of having extreme hunger forever for so many of us. I've been a fan of yours since the beginning and its so encouraging to see how far youve come and how much your channel is a little corner of joy and flourishing in the midst of difficult things

    I am a 50 plus year old woman who is a recovered Anorexic (and thinking of becoming a Coach for Life after ED Recovery??) and recovered in my 30s, so totally get what you are saying. Your body knows exactly what it needs and a lot of the time it didn't make logically sense to me at the time, but on reflection I can understand why I had the cravings I did. Even having the cravings was another reason Anorexic discipline would amp up. I always thought I was eating "wrong" and also had fear foods. Fast forward today I am so grateful to be in recovery and the "cravings" have gone (again, I know it is because my body is happy and feeling good). After all, the body's function is to just make sure it is surviving and when we mess with it, it will do all it needs to keep functioning. You are a great inspiration for others. Recovering from an ED is hard work, but it is possible. To others and keep on keeping on!!! You have got this.

    As someone beginning anorexia recovery, it really stands out to me in this video how comfortable you are around food. To someone who currently finds eating mentally all-consuming, watching you casually scrolling on your phone, laughing, and forming very articulate sentences between bites gives me so much hope.

    Thank you for your commentary on weight gain & maintaining a healthy weight. I feel like the excuse to not recover is for me at least often that I will start over eating forever and gain weight indefinitely. Thank you for speaking on that fear ❤

    I'm so proud of you! The craving thing was the same for me. I was craving cereal so much and later used it because fed is best and I was sometimes just overwhelmed by options or didn't have time. Now, I'm not really eating cereal that much. And I think that eating fat is something our body does to maintain a period. But yeah. People in my family said the same to me in my recovery. I'm so glad you pointed out how it is so normal and okay. And yes, peanut butter feels weird. It gets so much in the mouth

    I totally agree with you: i genuinely think that you’re so intelligent and brilliant❤ you don’t really often realize how good you do and how much you have helped so many people in all around the world, and you help,in the Same way, everyday (me for, example) to get the right motivation and being just an insipiration to get back to life. You have an incredible personality and you help also to get back to reality and rationality when thoughts go crazy and so illogical. I Wish you the best❤ really

    Hearing you talk about the cost of food - I can totally relate. Could you do a video on how you fuel yourself well/honour your cravings and social outings, whilst staying on a budget?

    Watching and experiencing my body adjust was so crazy. I used to think people were lying when they said that holidays involving a lot of food, such as Christmas, would not impact your body at all. Now that my body is in a place where it knows it will get fed consistently, I return back to the exact same spot after about a week (PSA; I don't weigh myself. I just know from how clothes fit and how I feel in general). Without changing anything before or afterwards. It's incredibly weird to look back on my past mindset, and even my body's reaction to slight changes, because the human body in survival mode is genuinely rather interesting.

    (possible tw) my family would always shame people for their body types, especially my siblings and i, and ever since 13 i haven’t been able to eat normally since. it’s almost ironic with the way they get angry when i eat less than eat more. i’ve seen a few of your videos now and you’ve come such a long way, you seem happier now and that happiness really can be contagious. i always think about how i may be stuck with this forever, i’d do anything to show 13 year old me videos like these. but still, your videos make me want to gain some sort of hope; i always imagined a future where i’m completely at peace and finally happy with the people i love and with not only myself, but with life in general. your messages mean so much to me, im so happy that you’ve overcome these fear foods completely because the pathway to recovery can be so hard

    Thank you so much for this video! I always slack off when I get close to the 'healthy' weight range my dietitian gave me - thinking I'll have to cut back to stay in that range. Mentally, I know to trust my body but my actions prove I'm so scared!

    • @RoMitchell
      @RoMitchell  9 місяців тому +7

      been there, totally get it! you don’t have to cut back i promise, if you’re not eating what you’re hungry for (ie, you wish you could still eat the weight gain meal plan) then you’re not where your body wants you to be. listen to your hunger and remember the “healthy weight range” is different for everyone 🫶🏻
