Definitely have used my digits to spread glue before and it probably won’t be the last time I have,but you are in a wood shop full of 3/4 scrap.If you use a offcut then when you get done just chunk it in the garbage and no cleanup needed.Awesome work by the way.Good luck on your future endeavors!
