9-year-old's heroic act saves parents after Oklahoma tornado

- Wayne and Lindy Baker, along with their 9-year-old son, Branson, were headed to Dickson, Oklahoma, just north of Marietta, to seek shelter, when a tornado suddenly picked up their truck and tossed it.
Poor kid didn't know if he would reach help in time to save his parents. That's a lot of pressure on a kid. But, he didn't give up and try to stay and comfortthem. He's definitely a hero.
What a hero he needs to be recognized as a hero. wishing his parents a speedy recovery
I have had a broken neck. I had to have the bone replaced. I am praying for the family. I can't say the recovery was "complete" I did work after as a teacher. But construction might be a bit much. There is still a lot of pain there are tendons and muscles involved as well. I hope someone gets them a go fund me or something sound like they will need a long recovery.

I think he will be honoured. The town is probably waiting for the parents to get home and heal more. The town will want them at the ceremony.. How fun aye'. Then they will make an unofficial holiday and have a b'bq every year for it..😊

This is how Oklahomans are raised! I’m not surprised, but pleased to see that people are still raising their kids like this. It’s why I love my home state people, even though I don’t live there anymore. I’m proud of Branson and his parents for raising such a great son. ❤
Is it strange that after times like this to want to move back home I miss Oklahoma more than anything every time I'm back in Bartlesville or Owasso it's like coming home from a foreign country

The parents suffered broken necks and backs, but they were inside a study steel truck. That's sobering testimony to the power of a tornado.
It was an F4, so very strong, they are blessed to have survived.
A vehicle is the worst place to be during a tornado, most tornado fatalities are people in vehicles.
The vehicle damage from this tornado is eye opening (saw it myself a day after it); it shows that metal is no match for wind
Dad lost a finger too.
It's so hard not to cry when you see kids having to find their way in awful situations like this

Both watching this tornado unfold on radar, and witnessing the damage with my own two eyes; it is a miracle these people survived in their vehicle. Going to the town itself revealed horrific damage, with trucks or cars entirely pancaked or squished. Thank the lord for this little hero, I have great respect for him and the community of Marietta.
This is exactly why we need more storm shelters, they save lives, prevent vehicle deaths, and can hold a community together.

I heard last night that in - either Texas or Oklahoma (my memory stinks but I know it was one of the 2) there was a mile wide tornado - unless I heard wrong. I can never fathom THAT craziness. Prayin' for everyone who got hit to be able to recuperate and be well.

I hope people are supporting him after such a traumatizing event. He saved his parents by getting help, but those ten minutes sound like they were very long and terrifying. Even just having to dodge lightning while it's the only light you can see by is terrifying in and of itself, much less if you've just been through a car accident and a tornado and both your parents are hurt and there are no other adults to help you. Someone should help him work through all the feelings he probably has about that event. Trauma endured during childhood can affect someone's physical health for their entire life, as well as their life expectancy.

Wow!!! It must have been so scary for him in the dark, all alone, knowing that tornado was still out there. Not knowing if his mom & dad are gonna still be alive by the time he got back! That is one brave little boy!
After experiencing 3 -EF2 tornadoes in Tallahassee, Florida, on May 10th for the first time, this brings tears to my eyes. Speedy recovery to all the families affected.
