When powered up, this thing makes all kinds of noise which is beyond annoying. I'm pretty sure it's not the fan. Any ideas what this could be?
Can you describe the noise? Perhaps it is the hard drive, especially if it's damaged or in a failed state. There should be just one air intake fan blowing on to the heat sink over the CPU. It could also be the fan in the power supply. Open it up and take a look. Try unplugging the hard drive from the motherboard and see if that is the culprit. Power Supply, Air Intake Fan, or Hard Drive are the items that would make noise outside of diagnostic beeps coming from the speaker on the motherboard.
Mine came with as follows: i5 650 3.2ghz 4gb RAM 2x2 250 gb HDD Intel HD integrated graphics. I wanted to upgrade RAM and gpu but ran into some issues. No matter what I tried, I could only add one extra stick of ram, making the total 6gb. The gpu (1gb vram nothing special) also seemed to prohibit any startup or anything. Power supply issue? only 240 watts unit. Sorry for the long comment. Thanks.
It could be that the RAM stick you were trying to install is no good. I had that same problem. Alternatively, what I did in the video was take out all of the RAM sticks, and one by one install them, boot to BIOS, save BIOS config, and shut down. Repeat for all sticks. That worked for me. As for the GPU made it so the PC wouldn't boot? That is odd. Are you able to test other cards to make sure the PCI slot is ok? Or that the card isn't faulty?

No estoy seguro de si será algun problema de compatibilidad o quizás mi fuente de poder de 240W no es suficiente 😢
That power supply would be fine. I have run into the exact same thing with this M90p and others. Sometimes it's a mystery and sometimes it's a firmware update. The repair person, did they have any advice?
@@HaisteComputerRepair He was as confused as I was. Updated the BIOS to the latest version (08/05/2014) and checked the motherboard thoroughly in case there was anything defective. In the end he couldn't get the graphics card to work on my PC and his only recommendation was that I try to get another graphics card, preferably from NVIDIA, however where I live it is somewhat difficult to get an NVIDIA in good condition and at a good price, the R5 430 is the best. The only decent one I can have, at least until I can save up to go buy components in another city. The next thing I will try will be to update the firmware, or well I will try since I don't know much about components and drivers. Yes, it does have to be low profile unless you migrate everything to a larger tower case. Those would be great options, let me know what you end up doing!
I sold this setup shortly after filming the video, so unfortunately I am not sure. I haven't heard anything, though. I would imagine there is enough air flow from the CPU fan and PSU fan to dissipate heat, but anything could happen. Are you thinking of doing the same setup?

What kind of work are you doing? The first gen Intel i3 and older generation DDR3 RAM are going to be the limiting factors. You'll have no problem outputting to 1080p on a 120Hz monitor, but framerate/performance is going to depend on what exactly you are doing with your PC.
@@angelsantillan2115 Ok, I have sold 4th generation Intel Thinkpads to people who do day trading in the last year and they seem to be fine. Could be that the card is not compatible?
For some reason, AMD GPU's seem to cause this issue with M90p's, from what I have read online. Maybe start with taking the card out and checking in BIOS that priority display is set to PCI first. I don't know if that will be a solution, but worth a shot. Do you know specifically what model of R7 200 series it is? I don't imagine it is very power hungry, but it may be worth checking the info by Google searching "r7 2-- techpowerup" to see what the recommended power supply wattage is and if that matches with what is in the M90p.
The difference is that the silent is passive cooling and the card with the fan is fan cooling. That seems obvious, but there are advantages and disadvantages depending on your usage. Otherwise a GT 1030 silent is pretty well the same as a GT 1030 with a fan.

We have the same specs. Im looking to do the same mainly upgrade GPU. I don't know what to look for as specs. Did you every get up and running with your GPU upgrade?
I went to the Lenovo website, looked for my PC model and tried to find something that had to do with graphics cards but there was only support for NVIDIA cards. Honestly I'm desperate, I'm doomed to the 15fps that the integrated graphics give me :(

I want to add a gt 740/gt 1030 to this pc case, my only question is does it have to be low profile? I want to buy a gt 1030 sl 2gb brk, can this card work?
Yes, it does have to be low profile unless you migrate everything to a larger tower case. Those would be great options, let me know what you end up doing!
have you had a heating problem with the SSD attached to the HDD?
I sold this setup shortly after filming the video, so unfortunately I am not sure. I haven't heard anything, though. I would imagine there is enough air flow from the CPU fan and PSU fan to dissipate heat, but anything could happen. Are you thinking of doing the same setup?
@@HaisteComputerRepair Can a special bracket be used with the ThinkCentre M90p to accommodate one (1) 2.5" SSD drive and one (1) 3.5" HDD drive? I have seen special dual drive brackets/adapters that allow the use of two (2) 2.5" SSD drives only. Dual drive brackets are designed to address any potential overheat problems.
@@debitman6579 I know Lenovo itself sells 2.5" brackets, but I don't know if there is one specific to the M90p HDD caddy. Take a look on eBay with specific search terms, I'd say. As for overheating, I wouldn't too much personally unless you are in a hot environment. This tower case only has one intake fan and the only exhaust being from the power supply. Not ideal, but perhaps modifications can be made. Let me know if you find a bracket.
Would a m90 with 8 gb Ram, a gtx 1030, i3 530 @ 2.9ghz, 480gb ssd be able to run 1080p 120hz?
For regular work use no gaming. My work is substantially better with higher framerate
What kind of work are you doing? The first gen Intel i3 and older generation DDR3 RAM are going to be the limiting factors. You'll have no problem outputting to 1080p on a 120Hz monitor, but framerate/performance is going to depend on what exactly you are doing with your PC.
@@HaisteComputerRepair I would be day trading. In the near future id upgrade the mono and cpu as well as the RAM. But for now this is my setup.
@@angelsantillan2115 Ok, I have sold 4th generation Intel Thinkpads to people who do day trading in the last year and they seem to be fine. Since the M90p is a little old by now, look for a whole PC upgrade like an M93p(4th gen), or M900 (6th gen) with the benefit of DDR4 RAM. Both will have PCIe gen 3.0 which is perfect for the GT 1030.

Hey, I would appreciate if you can help me

Could be that the card is not compatible?
For some reason, AMD GPU's seem to cause this issue with M90p's, from what I have read online. Maybe start with taking the card out and checking in BIOS that priority display is set to PCI first. I don't know if that will be a solution, but worth a shot. Do you know specifically what model of R7 200 series it is? I don't imagine it is very power hungry, but it may be worth checking the info by Google searching "r7 2-- techpowerup" to see what the recommended power supply wattage is and if that matches with what is in the M90p.

One thing to consider is that it might be hard to fit the VGA connection into the M90p due to the position of the PCI slot. In this M90p in the video, the VGA had to be left inside the case as the cable connection wasn't long enough. Keep an eye out for an M91p or M93p, you will have better luck with those.
