2008 Chevy Colorado Electrical Fix

  • Hello. I left for work and got about a mile away and the dash lights went off. Gauges went dead and heater fan quit. I turned the lights off and the dash lights and gauges came back on but only for a few seconds. A “BRAKES” error message was flashing above the odometer. Along with the red locked light. Truck kept running though. I turned around and parked it. It wouldn’t do anything when I tried to start it. When I plugged in my code reader the dash worked fine and blower fan etc. No codes were visible. After doing some research online I learned these vehicles have two “Splice Connectors” one on each fender. They are common grounds for several electrical components. I cleaned the connectors and ran an extra ground wire connecting both to the negative battery cable that grounds the body. Now it seems to work fine again.

    I am so glad to come across this video saved us money. Have 2010 GMC Canyon that was throwing fault codes and the dash cluster would go blank when driving. Took to a dealership and they said we needed a new EBCM that they don’t make anymore. Options were to live with it or get EBCM reworked. While doing research found this video. After taking the ground off and putting back on it all cleared.

    This is genius!! So many videos on this subject but this is the best, simplest, and most effective fix to the ground issues on the 2004-2012 Canyons/Colorados. I will use a different color wire (black) and route it differently, so it's out of sight, but I love your fix! Thanks for sharing!

    Oh my God this is the video that saved my life and saved the truck thank you very much you are a godsend I've been spending over months fixing this or trying to fix it figuring out what the hell is going on kept thinking it was the security but no error was it was these two ground wires or I've been spending over months fixing this or trying to fix it figuring out what the hell is going on kept thinking it was the security but nope here it was it was those two ground wires that you showed in your video I thought I cleaned the ground wires but I guess they're grounding something else out underneath on the frame let alone knowing that this is a used truck and whoever had it before had attached stuff to it thank you again❤

    I had the same issue but with the ground cluster on the left inner fender. I put a 6 contact bus bar in and sanded all contacts with emory cloth and just a thin coat of die electric grease. Also added a separate ground wire. This is a common and frustrating problem with 1st gen Canyons and Colorados.

    Thank you so much for this I sanded down to bare metal like you recomended also ran a wire from negative post to connection that fixed my issue with turn signals and center cluster not lighting up at night. Thanks again I know you saved me a boat load of headaches finding a shop and definitely saved me a couple hundred dollars.

    Just beat the dash with a hammer fist.. My clusters been replaced 3x and it still does it.. I fixed those grounds years ago... When it just turns over and wont start wiggle the cam sensor wiring.. When the heater stops blowing on 4 its the switch plug if it stops on all but 4 its the resistor if it stops all together put switch on 3 and beat area above passenger kick panel with a pipe wrench. 05 w/418k SMJ 23

    Ya my left turn signal lights up when i hit the brake. Im also having the issue with the dash not lighting up sometimes at night. I got pulled over last night and the cop said my turn signals in the rear weren't working either. After he helped me field test it, they worked as long as i didnt hit the brakes, but when i hit the brakes the lights seem to dim and flash together. I also have the 07 Colorado.

      Hello. Thanks for viewing my video and commenting. The problem I had was poor ground connections. When I turn it off my truck turns on the emergency lights, I have to disconnect the fuses to solve it, but it's annoying, I haven't been able to find the reason for the failure. I changed the emergency light button, and checked fuses, wiring, I have no idea why he does it.

    • @whspioneer89
      @whspioneer89  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for viewing and commenting. Start by checking the conditions of your battery and then the grounds. If those are good check the positive connections. Basically start at the beginning of the circuit and move in order of electricity flow.

      @whspioneer89  3 роки тому +2

      Hello, thanks for viewing my video and.commenting. When my grounds were bad that's what mine would do. I'd start by checking to make sure you have good grounds. Check the battery grounds and also the pair of junctions on the inner fenders under the hood. I had to clean rust off under the junctions on the inner fenders. But I also added grounding wires from both junctions to the battery ground
