    There is a step that is crucial to this repair that is not mentioned in most of the videos in regards to the resistor. The reason these harnesses are shorting out and getting too hot is because of a bad design in the ground wiring. Under the hood on the upper portion of the passenger side wheel well just behind the air cleaner cover (which you'll need to remove), you will find a bolted harness attached to the side wall. This harness includes a good amount of your ground wires which includes the ground that comes from your blower resistor. Chevy for some reason decided to mount this ground wire harness to a PAINTED piece of metal, thus not allowing it a proper ground. Remove this harness from the wheel well panel and grind off the paint from where it is bolted on to using a tool such as a Dremel. Also grind off the paint from the grounding harness itself where it will be attached to the side wall. Once both the harness and the side wall have been ground free of any paint, apply some electric conductive grease on the area before re-attaching the harness to the side wall. VERY IMPORTANT YOU DO THIS! IF YOU DO NOT.... YOU WILL JUST RUN INTO THE SAME PROBLEM IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME!

      @@opera93 I have not had a problem with it since I replaced it, 2 years ago now. My how time flies.
      I used all the parts TJ recommended. I did leave the wires a bit too long, I was chicken to cut them off.
      1 note: Add some shrink fit hose on wires and heat to shrink. I wish I'd done this. Good Luck, Jay.

      @@opera93 There are ground wires on the fender under the air box on the passenger side., grouped on one bolt to the fender.. That ground is bad. Take them 4 wires out and clean them, and sand the fender, as there is paint from the factory under the bolt of the ground there. clean that , and the fan will work again. Also ,on the battery side there is another ground, with 4 wires. this one controls the pass code, and this is bad also, clean it, and your truck, will start every time... Find the ground wire on the fender by the air box on the2007, and clean the ground wires there.. This is why the resistor keeps on blowing wires.... Worked for me. There is a bunch of ground wires on the other side by the battery too. Fix that bunch of ground wires. and fix your ignition problems. let me know if it works. found on u tube from another brother

  • @chupposity

    I cleaned the grounds under the hood as discussed below, and reused the resistor. I was able to remove the other three wires from the original socket and insert them into the new socket, so I only had to splice one wire. Preliminary tests are it is working - will report back if there are any problems.

    BEFORE you go through the expense AND frustration of all this work, do yourself a BIG Favor and start where this repair is easiest and may result in making all of this Unnecessary. Locate your grounding module on side panel next to the Air Cleaner box. Unbolt it, then open from the top to access male & female connectors for a self servicing cleaning inside. Use some "Brakleen" or similar solvent cleaner, spraying down into the female contacts using small straw provided. Spray clean the lid's Male spade connectors as well, then spray into the mounting bolt's threads and let everything thoroughly dry (About 30 min). Reassemble and be surprised. Worked great for me and will probably for you if a dirty ground is the main problem.....

      This is the problem.. I did this and it worked for me. Got all speeds back on the fan... There is also the same crazy ground combo wire bunch on the battery side, and I took brake clean, and did a cleaning on all the spades, and sanded the fender, and rebolted it to the fender... Fixed my starting problems.. My 07 colorado starts everytime now. Stan from Hawaii

      @@jumpsouth1 ------Glad you have found success in the deep cleaning method that has worked for me. But I find that new contamination builds up again after just a few months requiring attention again. All my issues have been with the module behind air cleaner box. My plan is to replace the entire module soon. I'll first remove module from fender, cut off wires at mod, then strip back the insulation from about 3/8's inch from the wires ends that once plugged into module. Crimp bare wire ends into plastic sleeves collars of either ring style or slot type new terminals (heat shrink best for sealing) and slip over bolt (better to use a NEW one) that fits the screw hole at fender with star washer for enhanced contact. Tighten bolt as necessary . This method is the simplest if you don't want the hassle of incorporating a small grounding bus bar like others have utilized......

  • @gtdodgeviper

    The best and cheapest (almost free) way of fixing that is to get rid of the socket and solder the wires straight to the terminals on the resistor. Most likely the resistor is still good. Thats what I did and I haven’t had anymore problems.

    1,2,3 speeds don't work. I only have 4. I checked my resistor and harness and everything seems fine. Is the problem with the blower? Why would 1,2,3 speeds not work? I'm going to buy a new blower. If that doesn't work I'm lost...

    • @icaanul
      @icaanul 2 роки тому

      Make sure it's not loose. I assume you may have already done it but just double check. If it is coming and going then either you have a loose connection or it's melted again. It's a very common problem in these models of vehicles. GM is notorious for their poor designs. It's not impossible that it overloaded the resistors again. 3 will do it A LOT so if you get it fixed again, avoid using 3 if you can. IF it is working without a problem on 4, then it's either loose connection or melted. Sometimes you need to check your wire to make sure it didn't damage it down the line.

      Saint Michael there’s a Colorado site called coloradofans.com that I went to and some of the guys there was saying that there’s a grounding location that’s around the air box on the passenger side that is not getting a solid ground. Because for some reason Chevy decided to paint the inner fender then add the ground terminal. So they say you’ll probably have to remove the air filter box and below where the box was there should be a ring terminal with some wires crimped to it.
      Unbolt that then use a wire brush or a wire wheel and a drill to take the paint off then bolt the grounding ring terminal back on. Then spray a some clear coat over it so it doesn’t rust. Then put everything back together.
      I’m sure the resistor might be going out but also do what I just mentioned to the grounding terminal on the inner fender because it might not be getting a solid connection. Also I would add a split ring washer between the inner fender and the ring terminal. That way when you tighten the bolt down, you’ll get a better grab into the metal and it will help to keep the terminal from getting loose over time. I hope that helps.
