I hope you are still reading comments on this video. I have only made baby quilts up to now. I guess I've been lucky because they always matched up. I decide to tackle a twin sized bedspread Yesterday everything was perfect until I got to the 6th row. I couldn't make it line up. Finally, I decided to go downstairs and didn't even know if I would finish it. I started watching You Tube, not necessarily to find a resolution but to relax and see what was happening on Sister Wives! I came across your video and listened. It made sense! I never measured my blocks after I sewed them. We were gone all day yesterday. I thought about your video. I took the row apart. Guess what? I had two blocks that were not exactly the right size. I redid that row and now it is beautiful again. I'm anxious to finish it. From now one, each block will be carefully measured. It seems like such a small thing, but it may have rescued me. I was ready to throw in the towel and forget quilting! You saved me!
I know I'm a little late commenting, but wanted to thank you for the reminders. Pressing is so important. Recently I stopped using steam or starch even though I prefer them when working with my fabric. But, they do shrink my fabric, including precuts. Using a hot iron without steam or starch has been giving me consistent block sizes. I don't worry about prestarching or steaming all of my fabric before cutting. This has really helped me a lot.
You don't want to start any of your blocks after you made that will cause a problem. Just starch fabric before you cut and it's not recommended to be starching precuts
I found out from the fat quarter shop, kimberly she sprays really soaking. I am glad I saw that she said charm packs will shrink. I sprayed my fat quarters. At least I know not to spray charm backs and jelly rolls. This is from your episode about your quilt blocks not turning out right size.
Get it done! Loved it earlier when you were looking for a ruler, then found another one. I do that all of the time, no matter how organised I think I'm being. Thanks Pat.
I’m kinda new at sewing and starting with quilting. I found your books last night and just from what I read online they are GREAT!!! Answers a LOT of questions I have. Thank you SO much!! You just said about pressing....some ppl say not to press out the seam and some do....plus not to press the that and to press the top also. I’m confused!
Hi Pat thanks for the information on 1/4 inch seam still working on getting it correct recently I was doing hat how do you keep from stretching I think that’s what I did can you help thanks I say get it done
Awe, thank you Pat for answering my question tonight that I had sent in for your Facebook Live video! Your answer was very helpful and you explained it so well. I’ll definitely try that trick of looking at a black and white image of the block pattern picture and then of a mock-up with fabrics I’m thinking of using. I enjoyed your fireside chat tonight as always and look forward to your next pop in! I can’t wait to see what childhood game we will reminisce about this coming Wednesday as we make whatever block you have designed for us! I don’t know how you do it all, but I’m glad you do! Hugs and best wishes from your friend in Texas! 🤗
I'm starting my first quilt this week. All the Q &As are very helpful. I remember some even when sewing a bag that I'm working on at the moment. Hope you have a great week. 💗😊💗
Another great Fireside Chat! Thank you, Pat! On that heart quilt, "Get It Done!" I want to make a heart quilt with the Flutter pattern. It is so sweet! I am doing a "Blended Sampler"--blocks from Book 1 and Book 2. Question: When you do a child's quilt and back with Minkie, what do you use for the batting to keep the quilt so soft and cuddly? I want to put Minkie on my Traffic Jam quilt, but I am stumped about what I should use for batting. Thank you! Have an awesome week!
What about where your 2 1/2 inch blocks that you're using for your test don't line up at the top and bottom ? Your machine pushed one longer than the other. That will mess up your sizing too, right?
One other thing to improve correct overall size of quilt block is weight of thread. It was a life changing with my quilt block. I always use a 50 # for piecing.
It also makes a difference in your seam allowance if your 50 # thread is two ply or 3 ply. I most often use Aurifil 50# for piecing as it is two ply thread.
Do you think rotary blade sharpeners work well? It seem like I’m forever changing blades. It could be because I’m having trouble cutting. I cant cut a straight line even using rulers and a mat. I did do a little better after reading a preview of your book about cutting.
Will you review the status of your project journal - are you making progress on your UFO's and WIP's? The heart quilt looks perfect that size ...get it done :}
I'd show you a screen shot but YT does not allow it. you can also go to blog.patsloan.com/2020/02/the-low-down-on-getting-an-accurate-quilt-block.html which is what the first link is. What is your email and I'll get you set up to get notices.. write me at pat@patsloan.com then you won't miss anything
Thank you - love your heart quilt - 'get it done!' It is good to know that one of your projects has taken a while. I start things but never finish them - I got a rotary cutter thinking it would answer all my woes!!! Find I cannot handle it 😐 do you have any tips?
Can I ask? Where can I get the heart pattern? I couldn't quite understand which book you were speaking of. I am new to quilting, and would like to have a go once I have built up some experience
Hi pat, I am making my first quilt. I finished all my Churn dash blocks but I have a problem they are not measuring to twelve and a half; some are a quarter inch shorter on some of the edges. What size can I trim them down to that would make my quilt end up right? Please help!
Hi Stacey! I would recommend you take them apart. Measure the units, see where the errors are. Check the size every time you measure 2 together, that way you can find where it is going wrong. Trimming down won't help, you'll chop off points and it won't fit in your setting. Getting correct sizes and seam allowances is part of the learning process for quilting . you've got this!
I’m in love with the Hearts 💕💕💕 it’s Beautiful quilt and so me lol I Love how cute and Girly 💕 I Love your bee zipper 😊 I have been loving your Button club also do you still do this??? I appreciate patterns that tell you how big each unit should be. It makes life so much easier
so glad I ran across your videos! I am learning a lot. hope you keep on producing these videos. You are quite an encourager too.
thank you for joining me!
Watching older video , good tips for blocks tyfs.

Imwas wondering about steaming. I am now just using a hot dry iron and everything is better! Ty!
Great reminder because sometimes we get in a hurry and forget to be careful. 😊
Does that small iron get as hot as a big iron? Correct seams really do make for a beautiful block.
Congrats on hitting 80K! More fans to join in on the fun!
I really enjoyed your program today. I learned a lot. The heart wall hanging is just darling. Thank you !
Just get it done Pat it is so cute!
Great timeless basic information. Thank you.

Happy quilting from New York
Get it done! Love the size it is now
Your tutorial is right on. I enjoyed it. By the way you look stunning in the red and black scarf
Thank you 💕
Love that idea of the black and white photo thank you for that tip.
I found out from the fat quarter shop, kimberly she sprays really soaking. I am glad I saw that she said charm packs will shrink. I sprayed my fat quarters. At least I know not to spray charm backs and jelly rolls. This is from your episode about your quilt blocks not turning out right size.
Meant get it done. I love your videos.
Hi Pat, do you have a pattern for the Santa on the wall behind you?
I love your polka dot scarf!
thanks!
Where can I get the pattern for the red and white quilt behind you? And what is it called? I am in love with it! Love all your ideas and books too!
Pat, I LOVE watching and learning from you!
Thanks so much!
Pat, get it done, so I can see your next fantastic quilt! Love seeing Norman the gnome, lol 😁
Get it done. 😊😊 Great video thank you for the info.

Blessings to all from AZ
I recognize several of those heart fabrics!
Very good tip on that color choices!🧵✂️💕
Get it done! Loved it earlier when you were looking for a ruler, then found another one. I do that all of the time, no matter how organised I think I'm being. Thanks Pat.
and i found the ruler in the rolling assistant!
I’m confused!
you need to press each seam for nice blocks. If you wait until your whole top is done you will have sewn errors into your blocks with unpressed seams
Pat Sloan I do but some say to press open the seam, press both sides, and to use steam.
Amen! Sharp scissors, sharp blades, cutting isn’t a hassle. Have you used the electric blade sharpeners?
Love your videos. ..get it done!,
I have a blue painters tape on my sewing machine to make sure that my fabric is always straight when I sew thanks for the video
Hi Pat thanks for the information on 1/4 inch seam still working on getting it correct recently I was doing hat how do you keep from stretching I think that’s what I did can you help thanks I say get it done
Get. It. Done. Love it just as it is!
Good morning :) do you have a place where I can see the heart quilt pattern, it is beautiful.
Get it done and go on to the next project. Some quilters may not know about the Celine Perkins 1/4" ruler.
Where is the link to your notions and especially the notebook you showed us today? Get it done!
May I ask what type of sewing machine is in front of you???Love your info!
hi Vicki! They are all Babylocks. The one in the table I'm sitting at is the Solaris. The small one is the Jubilant and the midarm is the Tiara
I love the heart quilt! Get it done! 😁😜🧵❤️
Love it get it done.
Thank you for the help.

let me know!
I have the "make it bigger disease" but sometimes I fight it and just get it done! So just get it done
For your Heart quilt, I say you should get it done while it’s fun! You have a lot going on and that quilt doesn’t have to be big to be beautiful!
I'm starting my first quilt this week. All the Q &As are very helpful. I remember some even when sewing a bag that I'm working on at the moment. Hope you have a great week. 💗😊💗
hello from Oregon
What do the back of seam look like. .ironed right of left or over center?
Hi! this is a super old video so i'm not sure what you are looking at. I usually press to the side, but on occasion i press open if i feel the need
Get it done, Jan
.Get mIt done. Love your videos
Get it done. I am getting things done even if it is not as big as I originally planned

sometimes no batting or look for a very thin batting that is flexible.
What about where your 2 1/2 inch blocks that you're using for your test don't line up at the top and bottom ? Your machine pushed one longer than the other. That will mess up your sizing too, right?
always check your patchwork for places like that, do a quick at each seam and fix those that are wrong
Do you have the pattern for the heart quilt behind you?
Ok Pat , Get it Done !! Love all your projects and please tell me how I can get one of those mini irons in pink. I just love it !!
Hello from East Texas!
exactly what I'm dealing with!!! had to tear 2 huge sections down to re-do the problem blocks!

My small block is always good. It is when you start putting the big block together...
My 1/4 inch foot on my machine gathers the seam when i sew. Why is this happening?
Contact local sewing machine shop and talk to them. they will be able to see what you are doing
Your 20% off Oliso site isn't working. Please help.

hello Everyone. from CT
With the bulky seams. Need help with that
I’m doing it but in a different layout. I had to change fabrics because my hubby said my fabrics were not bright enough.
Talking about the fat quarter shop quilt along.
Looking for the journal link. I can't see it.

That’s what I was using in Quilt Topia! Lollipop Gardens. .

You’re fantastic!
My trouble is usually pressing
Hi. Ho was a typo. Thanks for the reply. My error in cutting was my novice inexperience.
Great job figuring it out!
Ho Pat... that misadding is what I am famous for... made me trim down a bunch of my squares when I should have left them alone!
There are standards for how quilt patterns are written which helps everyone
Finish! An unfinished quilt doesn't keep anyone warm. 🏤
