      Well it depends on what people are looking for. Klaipėda, Kuršių Nerija, Palanga and Ignalina are the more nature type snd other cities are some other type. It depends of the persons taste. You may like Kaunas they may like Vilnius. Personally I like:
      1. Klaipėda, Kuršių Nerija, Ignalina, Vilnius ( they share 1st place for me )
      2. Šiauliai, Druskininkai, Birštonas ( 2nd place all )
      3. Other
      But if we are talking about Vilnius, Kaunas I like Vilnius more. ( Personally )

    I first visited Kaunas in 2012 and fell in love with it.
    It's changed quite a lot since then - for the better - but it's still a perfect small city to explore and enjoy.
    I'd only argue with your comment that you can see it in a day. Stay there longer and see some of the art, crafts and music and get out into the surrounding countryside - it's wonderful!

    👍👌😎🤓

    • @S3l3ct1ve
      @S3l3ct1ve 5 років тому +1

      Hi there :) Since you have been here in July not much have changed, Kaunas now is growing quite fast, there are at least 4 big projects going in the city - business centers and new building overall are growing quite fast, so the face of the city is changing rapidly I am not living in the city I am from suburban area, but even so each time I go down town I can see something new happening :)
      Now if you in to architecture you should definitely check out the biggest shopping mall in the center area of Kaunas called "PC Akropolis" I know my fellow citizens might not agree with me on this one at first, but actually Kaunas Akropolis is one of the few if not the only shopping mall in the world which was build around an already standing old town buildings. It is unique project, because those building were considered as national heritage, people who bought those buildings could not demolish them there fore they were forced to look for alternative ways to build the shopping mall on that land. They decided to incorporate the buildings inside of it and made them in to the shopping areas. So the buildings inside of the shopping mall are not a decorations, but rather the real buildings with real thick walls roofs and roof tiles etc..
      There are still vast amount of Pre war architecture buildings around the whole town, mainly in "Ąžuolynas" district, not sure if you will be able to find it so I am going to mention couple of streets that have quite a few houses from that period, "Trakų" street and "K. Būgos" street they are near each other and you should be able to find them on googlemaps typing without Lithuanian characters should be fine. There are far more objects, but i would suggest finding a guide for those because it would take some digging in Lithuanian language and I believe its quiet the task for you :)
      You should definitely check out the sculpture "Laisvės karys" one of the coolest sculptures in the whole country it is a huge warrior riding a horse, national symbol called "Vytis".
      It is probably worth to visit an Atomic bunker museum here is the link goo.gl/maps/22Zk79BMCTuVHzNx9
      There is also one interesting place, but outside the city and you will need to make an appointment there by a call it is a "AB spaustuvė" its the underground printing house used in USSR occupation years it was illegal by then to print any religious books and in Lithuanian language, so two guys made a printing house, they dug an underground cave under their green house where they keep on growing vegetables.. The printing was going for 10 years after they get suspended. The museum works there now it pretty cool because you can enter it through the green house that is still standing there in their garden :)
      Also i would like to mention this amazing interactive map we got www.pamatyklietuvoje.lt/zemelapis?xmax=27.8731&xmin=19.8592&ymax=56.6322&ymin=53.6822 it is in Lithuanian :/ but you can still zoom in in the area you would want to visit and look through all the stuff that is there on the map, on the left side there is a search bar and lower on the left you can see pictures with the places mentioned. It might be "shooting ducks" without knowing the language, but you can still make some route depending on where you plant to walk :)
      Kaunas is a rich city in its history, I would suggest finding a good guide if you want to get the best out of it, there might be places to recommend, but it is pretty hard to know which one of those are considered as worth noting :) For me, a lot of places already visited and also some of the ones that were worth to visit for me might not be anything special for everyone else :)
      P.s. If you like kebabs, you should definitely check out a place called "Kebab republic urmas" there is a page on FB, the Indian guy that works there make the best kebabs in Lithuania or at least Kaunas.

    • @UtamagUta
      @UtamagUta 5 років тому +1

      • OOh You chose the time when town is them most charming - Christmas decorations EVERYWHERE! You must check out the Christmas fair for sure (Vilnius and Kaunas have a mini competiton who has a better fair that year) as for me - i like to go on a tour to many towns in Lithuania to check christmas fairs. December is a difficult season since the weather likely to be bad (hope for snow maybe?) and it'll get dark by 3PM (daylight saving time zone amirite 🤷‍♀️?). Next to the main fair, is the Kaunas castle (as seen in this video) - it'll have decorations aswell. Next to that castle is a park where 2 rivers colide into one (Neris flows into Nemunas), then head a path by the river Nemunas - you'll return all the way from old town to Laisvės alėja (alley of freedom) and reach the biggest mall and Žalgiris arena.
      • YOU HAVE NOT VISITED KAUNAS IF YOU HAVEN'T EXPERIENCE A BASKETBALL MATCH IN ŽALGIRIS ARENA!!! The vibe is unreal! Just, book tickets now as it's sold out in pretty much 15 minutes.
      • You can check out at least one observation stop on either of the hills - we have quite a few of those. Take a ride on a Funicular, visit museums.
      • If anyone's reading and planning a trip on any other time of the year, i could not recommend visiting The Pažaislis Monastery and Juniper valley enough as it is my favourite places here.
