    Quick note: I made a mistake in the labelling at 05:37 and 06:46. That should be the Jabra Speak 510/710 NOT Logitech. Apologies for the confusion!

    This is how to do a proper mic comparison. So much better than most other reviews, where the presentor calls someone and says, "How do I sound?" Thanks for sharing this.

    I really appreciate this review you did. No one else goes over the mic quality. As we can see, the mic pickup can vary widely between models and brands. Everyone else just does standard product reviews of the device itself. Just orders the PLT. Plantronics has never let me down I’ve been using their headsets for a decade!

    Hi John, this is most useful mic comparison video on youtube, thanks for creating it. Would you be able to do a side by side mic test with the new Poly Sync 20 vs the Calisto 7200? Thanks for the comment, Ryan. Glad it was helpful. Yeah I agree the Anker mic performance was disappointing - which is in contrast to the excellent build quality and speaker sound quality. Very clear that most of these manufacturers aren't prioritizing microphone performance.

      @@JohnScottB John, do you have a view on how a pc speaker + lavalier mic setup would compare against the plantronics if I don't need the conferencing capabilities. Thanks!

    • @JohnScottB
      @JohnScottB  3 роки тому +1

      @@ryanm2707 A lavaliere will sound much better than any of the speakerphone options - it's a bigger mic element and it is much closer. Just listen to my audio in the video before and after the clips are played. That's a cheap $30 lavalier and it sounds great. The downside is if you are trying to do video or audio conferencing, having speakers pointed straight at you with a lavalier is going to want to tend to create an annoying echo. Some software is better than others at defeating that - for example Zoom is really really good so if that's all you use then it's probably OK. That said, wearing headphones with a lavalier would a great a solution.

    Thanks but you didn't mention if you are using bluetooth or USB. Bluetooth connections will use the "headset" profile when using it as a conference speaker which severely limits the audio bandwidth. USB could support full bandwidth or even analog speaker/mic connections to a PC/phone will sound better. I really hope they can sort out high quality bidirectional audio in the future. This is also why there aren't bluetooth mics... Or at least part of the reason. Its amazing to me that my 20+ year old analog speaker and mic from my '90s PC setup sound better than bluetoothed for video conferencing

      Been awhile since I heard either, but if you're asking about how the Plantronics compares to the Jabra 510, the Plantronics stands out in overall volume and has much better frequency response. The 510 sounds thin in comparison - not really a problem for video conference calls, but if you're listening to it for music or something, then you'll be disappointed.

    • @JohnScottB
      @JohnScottB  4 роки тому +1

      Not sure, to be honest I didnt test any of them via Bluetooth. I'd expect the quality to be lower than wired but that sounds like something different. I'd double check that you're actually using the speakerphone and your computer didn't change inputs on you.

    Thank you for the video! What microphone are you using as your blog Mic audio as that is the best quality!
    I would be very curious how they compare in a live reverb room between B and F.
    I have a number of staff in poor quality cube rooms with issues generated by echo/reverb of the actual room they are in causing problems with clarity.

      Thanks! The mic for most of the video is the Boya BY-M1. Very affordable wired lapel mic! Other than the cheap plastic clip which broke almost immediately, I recommend it.

    Do speaker phones work as a conference call only or can I use for a call center phone.

      If you're trying to work remotely for a call center I recommend getting a headset. Even the cheapest ones can sound better than all of these.

    Hello there, thanks for this very useful video ! I was planning to buy the Anker but your video is showing poor mic quality from what I've heard honestly... I wanted to get your feedback on that one please. Thanks again !

      I think the Anker is a good value for the money - especially if you're going to travel with it. It comes with a great case and feels very solid in the hands. The mic quality is just OK but totally usable. The speaker quality was one of the better ones I tested. Easy returns to Amazon if you don't like it, so I'd go for it and see what you think.
