  • Today I replace the steering box in my 1977 GMC Sierra. I used a Cardone remanufactured box, link below. The job took around 2 hours between removing the part, painting the frame, and cleaning all the hardware. Thank you for watching. Any questions, leave them in the comments.

Do you think the new x j steer column messed up the box cuz I know many people complain but all I did was change my box to a tighter one from a junk yard ab put a camero steering wheel that was smaller an now it steers great even with the rag joint

No, not at all. The box was junk when I got the truck. I just dealt with it until it got bad enough. The original steering rag joint was junk as well. The truck drove 10x better after both were changed. I did have a smaller steering wheel as well which I liked.

The steering column is the original one to the truck.
The steering shaft is from a 96 Jeep Cherokee XJ.

There are videos out there but I just jack up the front, fill the reservoir and work the wheel back and forth with the truck running. Takes about 10 mins. Keep checking the fluid level as you go.

@@FullRange4x4 also i’m still deciding between the redhead or Borgeson. Have you heard much difference in either one? Any reason why you didn’t use the redhead or was the Borgeson just the first one you picked?

I have not. I considered the red head but $ was the deciding factor ultimately.

@@FullRange4x4 how long have you had the Borgeson now and are you satisfied with it? How does the steering feel? Maybe a follow-up video?
