Dr. Nicole has elevated GSU so much in such a short time. It can be argued that they're back to classic form from their golden years.
Yea but they still ain’t rocking with Southern though 🤷🏾♂️ big difference in bands. GSU got at lease another five years(maybe even ten) to go to be at that true return level
Fantastic artistry. Cannot wait to share this with my High School students here in LA .
With so much cutting of Electives/Arts, equalling lack of access in Los Angeles and much of the country, this is so inspiring.

I went back and listen to the battle again with my head phones on gram had some good moments that white and yellow was off the chain but southern that pen game my goodness the arrangements,songs, and once again this year the crowd su definitely won. The ladies on both sides was slaying and looked very beautiful ❤️

SU definitely has this one. Grambling song selection was outdated which is funny because usually SU plays the old stuff.
This is by far the best College Marching Band! The Gospel songs were chilling! The dancers are classy and extremely talented! So much fun to watch! Not only best HBCU band......But the best band in US!

Tremendous effort by both bands. Every year these bands entertain at the BOTB. You also incorporated a parade as well. So Bayou Classic/SWAC leadership can you explain why either band is not compensated?
Same reason nobody else in HBCU history got paid. If they get paid I need back pay, so does my Mama, my Grandmother born in 1900, my great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother we all should be compensated I'm pretty sure they performed too, and didn't get paid, what about the ones that were made ,to perform and paved the way, for them to have the right to perform??? Sometimes just be thankful and pray for what you got! Just an opinion not trying to be smart, but real, just don't see why they should get paid and I didn't for doing the same thing

My issue with Gram is that their middle instrumentation is weak. And it’s REALLY noticeable with the ballads. I’m not sure if it’s the harmonic allocation in the arrangements or if the middle voices (mellos, saxes, etc) are weak. But the 3 and 4 part harmonies never come through. It always sounds like a 2-part harmony/duet. It’s bizarre and makes me cringe.
Facts. They don’t arrange to bring out everyone together and that affects them

Ok.....after listening to this again. This was actually not as bad as people were saying. It was actually more even than I think people wanted. Some of it was a bit snoozy, but it was good.

But Gram is battling SU blow for blow while being Grambling. This is a battle anyone can judge because both bands are displaying their long time traditions.
I appreciate seeing The Jukebox being challenged this way by another Swac band who is not built on imitating them.

I wish I could say the same for some other Swac bands, but Southern too often find themselves in a battle against a mirror image of themselves.
I applaud World Fame. The Marching 100. Tennessee St, NC A&T and a few others for bringing distinct differences to the HBCU band culture than that of The Jukebox. All of these bands mentioned find no reason to imitate The Jukebox to be an HBCU top tier band.
We need more distinction and less imitation.

That's what im talking about...er body should bring something to the table.. why mirror another HBCU, that's what make us the HBCU's cause each band is unique and has their own flavor. All depends on where you are from, that HBCU'S flavor is their flavor, another person may not like it... but where you are from you dig it...thats why i say bands should not be booed, cause they bringing their flavor! Don't agree. *Every band has its own culture.* Perfect example is PV and their drumline. One could say other bands, including non-HBCU bands, have been mirroring them for decades but that wouldn't be fair. It's perfectly okay to give other bands credit without shaming or throwing shade.

I think whoever film this version was from SU, blame the productions that are filming. This version is new to me, the one i saw earlier was from afar, and they showed both bands equally

No argument here, like I said the version they earlier showed both bands from afar, only offering maybe a reason why.... cause every version I looked at was either blurred..too close..or not close enough.. just not a person that complains about everything. I made do with what I had. Close up didn't make either band better...still say both bands were awesome! I like when the cameras are far off cause you can really hear them as opposed to being up close you only hear a section and most of the time it not what you want,... only hearing that section, cause you can hear the imperfections or in other words wrong notes and off beats..God Bless
