Awesome video! I've been using a tiles saw flatlap for about a year, and the only downside was the faces. Looks like I'll be in the market for res laps and pad. Another infrequently used possibility is to attach a da pad from an angle grinder to your flat lap for silicon carbide pads. Super cheep!!! Like pennys.

Thanks for this video, Dave. I just ordered this machine. I had tried a cheapo drill press from Harbor Freight, but the vibration was terrible. That noise sounded like a harmonic vibration -- possibly helped along by your heavy load experiment. I noticed that your sponge-backed laps have a homemade drill-hole -- and some of them looked like they had a little bit of run-out (lateral wobble). I would take every effort to very carefully mark the center of the disk & drill very accurately to avoid that. It may also be the master lap is vibrating when it has a spongy disk between the locknut.
My friend bought that exact machine. He had to modify it. For his needs. He complained about the wobble. It's a great a little machine. Just be careful cause they tend to overheat.
