- Sarah installs a locker in her perfect little 4x4, the jeep cherokee.
The locker installs in the rear diff (a chrysler 8.25) and will make this thing climb mountains. It is perhaps the single best way to improve your 4x4 performance.
Sarah's jeep is getting closer; just a lift and a steel bumper with winch and she'll be set for hunting and fishing season.

Hey Sarah, looks like you’re doing all the work again Lol, good stuff. If you use a diff. housing spreader, it’ll make putting the carrier assembly back in a lot easier. You can probably make one fairly easily too if you wish, you guys are pretty clever at that type of thing. I used to work as a Dodge / Jeep tech (although I‘ve been out of it since 2010), but if you have any questions feel free to shoot me a message and I’ll help if I can.

She looked pretty pleased to me, if a little wary because she was doing something for the first time. The thing is that the girls don't need to wear their emotions on their sleeves because you do it all for them. You are the whirling cyclone of energy and emotions, and the girls have learned stoicism, calm and reserve which has allowed them to assess a situation and learn and succeed. They have obviously worked out that the best thing to do is let you have all the hissy-fits and just get the job done quietly in the background, most likely from their Mum. They are great kids and you two are great parents. A joy to watch, as ever, thank you and good health to all.

Well, since you like to learn mechanics, then, also learn the source of the parts you use. The label on the package says "ASSEMBLED IN USA". Which means they had the parts made outside of the usa and then assembled here in the usa. The parts can come from china, philippines, korea, mexico, taiwan, or japan or a bit from everyone on the list.
@Howie Felterbush: Maybe your attention span failed to catch that he thought it was made in usa?
Limited slip differentials exhibit all the characteristics of common suckage. You can however, replace those little clutch disks and slightly reduce the suckage factor. I want to install a Torsen differential in my Jeep Wrangler, they do everything a locker will do without the annoying click click click when you go around a corner. BTW... next video... 4 wheeling with Sarah. Go climb that mountain.

Now i know Sarah is a bit young, but lord how i wish i could find me a Sarah that was 25. Shes beautiful, smart, can hunt and fish and install a locker kit laying on a concrete floor. Shes always prepared with a headlamp and her leatherman, and her smile can make you forget your own name as it lights up the room and warms up your heart. You know that saying, “one in a million”? Beautiful Sarah is one in 7.954 billion!

Yes, except that these are "automatic" lockers and they unlock when not under power (which is the normal condition for sharp turns). That's the clicking sound you heard while we were "testing" it.
@@Gridlessness so during a sharp turn all the power goes to the inside wheel with automatic lockers? I think my brain has unlimited slip, can't comprehend this to well!😉
My brother did banger racing he used to weld the diff up good on snow and mud but not good for hard road driving. Nice to see the girls doing the work you're teaching them well there won't be anything they can't do.

If I remember, in the old days (60s) for drag racing we would weld the ring and pinion(4.56/4.11) gears together to have a locked differential rear end. Didn't know there was a part that could be ordered. You guys are impressive, thanks for being there during the quarantine!
Um. No. You can weld the spider gears together to make it a spool. You don't weld the ring and pinion gears together.
@@Ryan_Tidwell Question is - can he weld that rear end to lock it for Rose?
We broke the font end on an old plow truck we had a long time ago. Welded the spiders and side gears into a solid lump and it worked great.
I do not think the clutch plates in a LSD would prevent you from welding the spider gears. If Rose wants to drive on the road at any point she might not like it very much.
I'm not sure what it would be like to drive on pavement with the rear locked but I can tell you if the front locker sticks driving on the road is almost impossible.
If you wanted them locked at some point you would have to buy a new carrier anyway so...why not? Just keep your weld spatter off of the pin in the center and the ring and pinion.
Don't forget you have to use a Lincoln welder to make a Lincoln locker. None of that Miller stuff. :P

Lockers are better up front if going with one. With the weight of the motor over the front.. pulling is better than the rear.. I HOPE by now she's carrying a come along or a winch and recovery straps. ALSO add a tow point on the front and rear. You WILL be happy you added them WHEN you need them.
