Hi Rick, you can find this single 'Never Cry Again' on Gino Vannelli's 3 CD set called "Collected". I bought it and was so happy with it. It also has the rare single The Longer You Wait which was to be on the Arista album "Twisted Heart" which Clive Davis didn't like. He wanted Gino to go into a Pop more commercial direction. They fought it out in court over artistic direction. Gino shelved 'Twisted Heart' and didn't record for 4 years until his contract with Clive and Arista was over. But anyway the "Collected" 3 CD set is remastered and sounds great.
I saw Gino perform this song and his Top 40 hit Gina Bold at La Ronde (former Expo 67 site)during the summer of 1970. I knew he had the talent then ,his brother Joe is backing him. A Canadian rarity, his only recording on RCA,later with A&M & Arista. A preview song of what was yet to come from Gino! Happy Birthday Gino from a former Montrealer. Happy 62!
Has that soulful BS&T/Tom Jones feel to it. I know he had many musical inspirations, but when I was young (40 years ago) and everybody was into Sabbath, Montrose and Zeppelin, he was dismissed as a Tom Jones type balladeer. Gino came at a time when that phrase was shifting toward jazz fusion. Instrumental artists came first (RTF,WR,Jean Luc Ponty), then Gino, Al Jarreau and Steely Dan who lead the pact of jazz rock pop singers we took interest in because they were hip and could really sing.
Remember it well I had a beautiful poster of Gino'z but my bf tore it up 🤬 He married sone one else, apparently I wS his "side piece!" I had no idea, I was crushed. He was from Italy & just before his wedding he asked me to be his Mistress!! So I asked him to stop over, very nicely, I got decked to the nines. He thought he hit a home run 🤣 after a brief moment to let him see me all dolled up, thinking it was for him, huh! Bam! Clear outta left field I hit him w/it lol I said I was in a hurry, had to dash, but I just had to tell him eye to eye. I don't do Mistress nor dude piece nor date married men! I have too much respect for myself & your wife to be Then said I'm late, gotta go important I hurry bc my gf has a perfect match for me! Have a wonderfulife with your wife, & try to treat her better then you did me, inhear she us a sweet young thing he left, I drove around camevback l a later & balled my eyes out n ot over him but over me. One of lifes lessons! More to come I wS young very naive, ice grown a lot since 79
The voice was already there at 17. Wow unbelievable. I wonder if he played drums on this track. His brother Joe backed him up on this per Gino`s bio on the website.
Actually, the Swing Out Sister's beat is taking from the typical A&M Rec. sound and format of the late 1960s, and with textures and musical styles especially from Roger Nichols or Burt Bucharach.
What you're listening to is actually the B Side of this 45. The track shown on this video was posted by RPMCanadaHits here: ua-cam.com/video/P3yZKfZu7qI/v-deo.html
A nice little tune for its time. Not a hit though. Humble beginnings. I’m glad Gino didn’t continue down this route. I can’t blame him because he wanted to be heard and get his name out there but this sound was too commercial. The real Gino came out when he went to A&M
The verses really sounds like a rip-off of Barry Manilow's "It's A Miracle," the V to iim7 progression! Just your basic pop chords. Gino seemed to start using more complex jazz chords/voicings with the Gist of the Gemini album, e.g. chords like those used in "Ugly Man," "Omens of Love," etc.
If this was from 1969, that would be about 5 years before "It's A Miracle", which first came out in 1974. So Gino had this arrangement first years before Barry Manilow.
This is rare. A pre-A&M release from Gino Vannelli before 1973. Never issued in the US.
Gino would have been 17 yrs old here. Such a talented man!
THIS 17-year-old (me) is promoting THAT 17-year-old (Vannelli) to this sad generation.
Listening to this, you can hear what was about to come.
Thanks for uploading, great to hear this again
WOW this amazing musical talent was around in 1969! So glad I found you, Gino!
A-side peaked on the charts in May 1970.
What a Great Song! I need to find a copy of this! It is as Good as anything that was released back in 69!

Wonderful, thanks for sharing the memory
THIS 17-year-old (me) will not allow THAT 17-year-old's masterpieces to die to this generation.

Not bad at all. You listen to the top AM radio songs in 1969, and they sound very similar to this.
The voice was already there at 17. Wow unbelievable. I wonder if he played drums on this track. His brother Joe backed him up on this per Gino`s bio on the website.
Love this! Didn't know he recorded back in the 60's.
If I am not mistaken this was post their Marble Glass and Jacksonville Five days.
No conocía esta canción, lo maravilloso es su gran voz
Different version than on my Collected CD. But still outstanding! 17 yo with pipes like that. I cant get over how good it is. Love love love
Happy birthday Mr. Vannelli
This is great !!!
Fabulous! THANKS for sharing!
OMG!!! So cool!!! Not bad for a 16 or 17-year-old. And he wrote it too? Thank you so much!
'Gino Bold'
Sounds gino covered Swing out sister in 1969.
thehalla You're absolutely right!
First thing that came to my mind as well!

♥️
What's on the flip side?
Daryl.., That was what I was wondering. I'd love to hear the B-side.
What's on the flip side?
@@marshallsobin4879 This song is the flip side?
This is the B-side. "Gina Bold" is the A-side, and it reached just #92 in May 1970. :)
Cross between The Rascals and Little Anthony !
