At first thought, it is ridiculous that Gino has never won a Grammy. Then, I think about how special he is, and that often, the Grammy's are not given to true talent. He's often too hip for the room, and we musicians love him!!
Vintage yellow jackets meet ‘s vintage Gino Vannelli for a spectacular rendition of a song that is a classic in its own right. Unique arrangement. Well done.
I agree. Amazing jazz chord substitutions. And plenty of space for Gino to craft the vocal delivery. Then there's the samba feel that jumps out. Simply beautiful.
Having gone to the record store on the Tuesday it was released in 1998 to buy the CD and having listened to it many, many times since then, I feel completely ripped off on not having heard this until today. This would have been the perfect track to end the CD. But thank you for posting it!
This is the most beautiful version that I have ever listened to and I have heard Gino sing it live over the years. I can stop listening to it! Gino is the master of his music and his arrangements of his songs are just beyond brilliant.
The best singer in the world with one of the greatest jazz outfits in the world. This is probably the prototype of the arrangement done with the Metropole Orchestra in 2002. Either way, quite fabulous!!!!
Masterpiece!💐💖🎈💞🌞🎼🎶🎵🎉 So incredibly mindful (both lyrics & composition and performance) and outstandingly tasteful swirl across musical disciplines. And outstanding voice!💐💖🎈💕
Yes he did. And I got to see that live in Kansas City. One I'll never forget. Got to meet Jimmy with Yellowjackets in St. Louis many years later. Very approachable guy.
Absolutly wonderful! This smooth jazz version is a real gift. Unexpected job! Great artists are always inspired. Thanks from Póvoa de Varzim in Portugal.
OK Gina Vannelli, this version made my heart stop...for a moment. OMG this so wonderful...I LOVE IT!!!!!! Keep them coming! Dana, I agree with you 100%.
I love this wonderful man's voice. What a range and his versatile choice of all musical genres. I adore is his mix of jazz with the traditional/ classical. Too sad that more Americans just don't know of his genius and voice. I feel blessed to listen and keep his tunes in my head.. Yep you know.
We sounded great together! I actually was driven to the notes before he went to them, a split second but couldn't go to, or sing anything else at the end...Amazing how musicians just know...and I can't read a note. Never could...my parents either, but mom finally, after years of entertaining, sat down and learned.lol. My favorite song describes me to a tee.
Timeless music, lyrics.....a wonderful spiritual experience!!!! Call it anything you want, it has God's footprints all over the place.....and all that Jazz!!!!
Wow never heard it like this before absolutely wonderfully done and The Yellow Jackets are one of my favorite groups and after all these years the original version is The Best it packs a Big punch the way every note hits and the bass and voice Nice ("
Did anyone know that this song was written by a belgian composer named Jean Vallée(who died two years ago I think) and originaly titled "La bonne étoile"....the name of his show on belgian television!!!In fact, they admired each other ,and that was an opportunity for inviting Gino giving his version of the song.Great evening!!!!!Thumb singers.

What a tremendous vocal range. I love it when he drops to a lower octave. Listen to the album Yonder Tree I does not get a great deal of hoopla, but this is one of my favorite albums. Long live the voice and his sibs that make him look good!!
I had no idea. I should have assumed he was working on new projects since his resurgance several years ago when he re-recorded his hits with a European band. Gino's been busy!
Omg 😭😭😭😭😭😭 This makes me wanna pick up the phone and say I'm sorry to somebody that hurt ME! Sounds crazy, but it's true!!!🤣 That's the effect Yellowjackets has on me!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ #1fanofyellowjackets
This is an interesting arrangement, but I find that I miss the strong bass line movement (cycles through more than half the circle of fifths) during the chorus.
Wow I’m a REAL Gino Vanelli fan but I’m just ok with this version, however so many LOVE this one ....maybe I should reconsider going to see him live this August in Greenville Tx for 400$ for a “night with Gino Vanelli”, dinner and all!
Greenville, Tx????? Wow they come up getting this dude to perform there. I know it was 4 years ago. I lived there and seemed more of a country artist kinda town. Highly impressed.
Nice jazzy version, but a bit subdued compared to the powerful synth laced original IMHO. Although the opinion of one is subjective to those who feel different. Extra spices doesn't always make the food taste better.

Amazing arrangement and new voicings. The Yellowjacket + Gino Vannelli are explosive
Mind-blowing!! How could this recording of American and Canadian artists not be released in North America?! His falsetto at the end!!
Gino, Gino, Gino!!!...his voice just keeps getting sweeter with age....Montreal's finest. Thank you for this.
This song was written by Gino Vannelli himself. You can find the original 1981 version on Gino's album, Nightwalker. Love this version as well.

This should have been released in the West....unbelievable song and version....

Now how about an album of Gino w the yellowjackets!!! That would be THE recording of our time!
A perfect fusion of past and present; a young man's heartbreak coupled with an older wiser man's experience. Bravo!
This Guy Is THE BEST , Saw him in the 70s , Blew Me AWAY , Fantastic !!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, fantastic. Never heard this. Jimmy Haslip played on Gino's Brother to Brother record many years ago.
Yes he did. And I got to see that live in Kansas City. One I'll never forget. Got to meet Jimmy with Yellowjackets in St. Louis many years later. Very approachable guy.
a true voice and a 'proper' singer!!!!!!!!!!
Bravo......
Wow! Just wow!
Perfect ensamble......
Brilliant!
If this song doesn't touch your heart, you don't have one. Wow!
Absolutly wonderful! This smooth jazz version is a real gift. Unexpected job! Great artists are always inspired. Thanks from Póvoa de Varzim in Portugal.
I can hardly take it, the beginning w/ strings all the alternating triads. Nothing but tears!!!!!!!!!!!!
Astounding!!!!

I just love him!!! Sadly I’ve never seen him in concert.
I got to see him in Kansas City when the Brother To Brother tour was happening. Jimmy Haslip on Bass!
gino vanelli is a truly master of music
What a treat. I mean Gino is without question the greatest! And then put the Yellowjackets in the mix. Well, what can one say?!?!?
OK Gina Vannelli, this version made my heart stop...for a moment. OMG this so wonderful...I LOVE IT!!!!!! Keep them coming! Dana, I agree with you 100%.
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT FROM START TO FINISH! THIS IS GENIUS WORK...

Magic.
Brilliant! Just when you thought it couldn't get any better!

Incredible...
Yep, It was Track No 11 as a bonus track for the Japanese release only
Why the hell wasn't this included on the US release? What an awesome arrangement. Russell Ferrante is a genius.
mrbertiep1 G-E-N-I-U-S!!!!
Fantastic...pure joy for the ears! Bravo...bravo.

Gino con un magnífico grupo de jazz. Lo mejor
Awesome version of this beautiful song!!! Thanks my friend ;)
Impresionante!
Beautiful arrangement with different background vocals and great Bob Mintzer solos.More Jazz oriented than the original version.
Beautiful

PLEEEZE
Buena montaje...
Originally on Brother to Brother...Gino's record !!
Actually, no. By this time Gino had moved to Arista Records.
I can't even believe this.
A dúo con jellow jackets wow
Qui est l'orchestre classique?
All the right ingredients.
This version is nice, but I'm partial towards the original A&M release.
There's a mafia who censure Gino Vannelli: it's a shame!!!
This is an interesting arrangement, but I find that I miss the strong bass line movement (cycles through more than half the circle of fifths) during the chorus.
