We did round bars and 2x4s The chickens preferred the 4”side of the 2x4s, so we got rid of the round bars. 2x4s make more sense in the winter because they can completely cover the feet and not get frostbite

1.5-2 inch round perches are favorable and 15 inches in height and distance for perches. I love this concept! A removable peg might be good to hold the perch up, just jam a peg on the side to hold it. This would get rid of the need for ropes and pullies. Or a simple hook that goes to the eye on the rafter, just lift and hook.
I think just fitting the clips to the lower end of the perch with 2 hooks in the ceiling might be a lot simpler than pulleys I’m not sure round perches are recommended for chickens wrong shape for their feet

The perches need to be larger, unless you have bantam. When chickens rest at night they lay their breast bones down onto the perch, this also allows their feet to be covered by their feathers during cold weather, preventing frost bites. 2x4 flat side up seems to work best, so they can 'lay' comfortably. They'll use your perches, but will need to constantly do a balancing act.
I would agree, if you use a round bar it should have a lot larger diameter, you can see the hen slipping on it right in the video. My understanding is hens all want to be on the top rung, so its better to not give them more than one height to fight over. I thought you would put the rungs all up level.
They only fight a few times till everyone knows their place.....then that's it. They all know their place after that. Thanks for watching and chiming in.
As far as the shape of the perch. Round in perfect. In the wild they roost in trees. Most branches are round. They just set down on their feet. We have raised both layers and meat birds for 40 + years.
Make your life simple. A hook from the ceiling. Pick up bottom rung and put on hook. Wa-la. Would have save money on hardware and rope. Go in, pick up roast and place on hook hanging down from ceiling.

Yay! Raising up the roost to be able to clean! YES!!! I'VE been telling my husband this for YEARS. Now HE cleans the coop and HE in thinking this is a good idea. Finally! 🙄🙄🙄
Excellent build. But like others have said, chicken roosts shouldn't be round. They don't "perch" like sparrows, they actually lay down on top of their feet. I don't think your chickens will be too comfortable on that roost. Love the concept of the roost being able to be raised up out of the way though. Awesome

I would run the cord together. Make a Y that way you only have to handle One Piece of cord.

THIS IS A TERRIBLE ROOSTING SYSTEM FOR CHICKENS! THE BARS ARE WAYYY TOO SMALL...THEY SHOULD BE FLAT AND PREFERABLY 2"x3"!

You can always put a picture pipe on the bottom and run the rope through it so you don't have to remove the rope every time.
