I have had both. I like the Stradic FL over the vanford for inshore fishing. It’s heavier but tougher and still Shimano smooth, still light but not CI4 light. Vanford is a great inshore reel too…. I have a 3000 on a 7’0 ML inshore rod and it’s a great combo. Just doesn’t feel as durable as in the salt to me. Think it’s geared more to freshwater guys that may occasionally fish inshore but if you primarily fish inshore or even saltwater I’d go with the stradic FL if you want more versatility and to replace less bearings. If you wade fish inshore I would go with the FL for sure in case you dunk it by accident

I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!
I'm thinking of going for the Vanford 3000. I throw a lot of senkos and other finesses style baits from the bank and it's pretty clear water where I fish so I like having the extra line for those far out casts and the power of a 3000 size for those long distance hook sets and retrieves. Plus the fact that it's much lighter than the Stradic FL means more casts with less fatigue. Not to mention the 3000 sizes balance so well on my 7'3" St Croix Victory rod.
Picked up the Vanford 4000 for trout, steelhead and Atlantic salmon/pacific salmon for St. Mary’s river this past summer. Light reel and very smooth drag. Paired with 9’6” convergence. Great combo

The T handle comes with the 3000 and it also holds approx. an extra 40 yards of 8 lb test over the 2500. In Stradic the change is also in the drag on the previous gen. 2500 had felt washers, 3000 had cross carbon. Everything else is practically identical

Is one sealed better then the other? I am looking for a saltwater reel. I am going to pair it with a 7' St. Croix Mojo Inshore Medium Heavy. I will be using it for top water surf fishing and fishing from the banks of the intracoastal. Throwing jigs, Heddon Spook, and Tsunami Talkin Popper Floating Lure.
Both have the same water treatment systems with X Protect being the driving element. It's a labirynth system protecting vital areas of the reel. Sealed anti rust bearings are also in both

Either will work but it depends on your wish list. Both spec out almost the same for features but the Vanford is lighter and has the MGL rotor. Not sure if that matters to you or not

Vanford is also perfect for small silicon lures and egging where you need a lightweight reel with good drag because you will do a lot of twitching for a long time. 2500 hg is perfect for those things.
What's the rod you put the vanford on? I bought Vanford 4000 and looking for a good rod that can match the reel... I know it doesn't matter, but I like it when it matches.
May be a little late for a question but if you'll give me in put I would appriciate it. I have had a few daiwa fuegos the last 2 years and I love them, especially for freshwater. Super light and definitely strong drag. I have been catching a lot more red drum the last few years and I noticed that with big fish, especially in the surf, they tend to flex under the load and I am having issues with the reels now. I'm also doing more fishing out in the waves with the real getting much more backsplash from my body. I go at it pretty hard but I don't dunk it. I think the stratic is definitely light enough to throw all day but do you think it will hold up better pulling in large reds and under a greater saltwater load? Would most likely go for the 3000 size. It's all about jigging for me. Thanks for any input, it's a confusing Market out there and I'm a little hesitant on daiwa after my experience with the Fuego. The strategic just seems to be the overall favorite over a ballistic or something else in the price range. If there's something else you would recommend have at it. Saltwater isn't easy on anything unfortunately but for me I would go with a reel that has X Protect if you get them well dosed with saltwater. A 3000 has 20 lbs of drag so any 3000 will work well for you... If you go with the Stradic, the aluminium body will help reduce any chance of flexing under load but if you want the best for what you are doing and don't mind the up in size reel I would go with the 5000 Saragosa SW!
i use my stradic ci4 + 2500 for everything. but steelhead river fishing. 5 to 10 lb bass. 30 to 40 inch pike. tons of perch and rock bass. Gar pike :) lake trout, fresh water drum, my last trip out 2 weeks ago i got 40 perch in 3 hrs. brought in 2 at a time some times. then fished for bass and got 35 bass in 2 hrs lol. (also just used a 1500 stradic for a few years too for all my fishing on a ultralight rod and 6lb line lol.
Both will work just fine, the Vanfords will be lighter, size for size so if a painful wrist is something you deal with, maybe go for the lighter option.
Hi JP, I fish for coho , pinks and chum salmon out here in BC. I usually throw spinners , spoons or twitch jigs. I’m looking to upgrade my reel. Do you think the Stratic would be the best choice ?
The Stradic FL will do a great job for sure. You're going to want a bit more size than we use with your bigger flows and stronger fish plus you guys tend to throw far heavier setups than we do in Ontario. I think if you look at Stradic FL 4000 or 5000 and Ultegra 4000 or 5000 you won't make a bad choice. Both are phenomenal, one will keep. A few pennies in your pocket! Choose the size that matches your main line pound test or diameter best and consider hard running fish bud.
Over a hundred stripers on the vanford, 25lb braid, lures/bait didn't matter. Big fish small fish. On an ugly Stik gx2. Medium heavy. I finesse and power fish with it. Love it's interchangeability and I fish it with my Penn Slammer. It sees salt, rocks, sand, weeds, seaweed, trees, big fish and small fish. I don't even want to try the stradic. No point. Pay the extra $20 or $30...it's worth it. Buying another one soon! 😁
I want to fish for snapper up to 16lb with soft plastics from boat. Would the vanford 2500 be suitable for this? If so, what line and length rod and taper would suit? Cameron
16lb braid? If so, I would go up to at a minimum the 3000 but 4000 would be idea as you get 24 lbs of drag at this size and high gear ratio. What rod depends on the size of snapper you are targeting. A 7’ rod that is medium power to medium heavy will do well but remember that saltwater designed rods are heavier than freshwater designed rods. A saltwater medium is more powerful than a freshwater medium so please take that into account. Also, if you are fishing live bait it’s better to have a more moderate action but for artificials a fast action is more effective in a lot of instances.

Are you stating that the Vanford 2500 is not ideal for this application for this size fish? Sorry - just wanting some clarity on your kind response. I intend to use 12lb braid with a leader. Cameron
@@Camh1968 A 16 lb snapper is no small feat... yes, the 20 lbs of drag would be plenty but I would at a minimum jump up to the 3000 size so you get the Cross Carbon drag washers. With snapper that size, personally I would prefer the 4000 or 5000 as there isn't much weight difference.

Hi Paul, I would go with a medium light spinning rod paired with the Vanford 2000 which can work for a bunch of different things. The extra line capacity on the 2000 over the 1000 is helpful in case you target bigger fish.
I honestly never maintain my reels. My Shimanos have been super reliable and the only time work needs to be done if if something bad happens like big drops or being stepped on. The Vanfords have been super solid. I have fished 1000, 2000, 2500 and 3000 for over a year now and no issues
I can’t speak for the fl but my ci4+ has pulled up some hefty Bass with 6 lb fluorocarbon with zero signs of stress , The 1st gen of the Stradic ci4 did have some flex under load. I think it will be a while before I replace my current Stradic
Had the latest Vanford 4000 for about 4 months. Primary inshore white trout fishing. It's amazing. But what's really great is when i do hook a big red or whatever else happens to be there it handles them flawlessly as well. The smooth drag really shines on the bigger drum species.
I fish speckled trout and rainbows up to 3 lbs. Not sure whether to buy the stradic or the vanford. I want the 1000 and am not sure which one. Please help
Either are going to work really well for you.... The Vanford is lighter and has a lower start up inertia with he MGL rotor so if you are throwing really small and light baits then go with the Vanford!
Doesn’t the cross carbon drag start at the 3000 size Vanford? And what difference does it make? Been looking for a reel for finesse applications like drop shots and ned rigs etc.
Yes, 3000 and up have Cross Carbon from my understanding. The cross carbon material resists heat build up far better than felt on hard running fish but I find the felt drag start up to be a bit smoother when I'm fishing finesse lines.
@@officiaIdemon in the Vanford you can go with a 2000 for dropshot but the 2500 in either Vanford or Stradic are the best all around sizes for what you want to do. 20 lbs of available drag is more than enough but they still have high line pick up that you tend to lose when you drop down in spool size and diameter.
Is one better than the other with casting distance? I’m about order and gift myself a new setup for Christmas and I was certain on the Stradic FL XG C3000 until I just ran across this video (Just subscribed & liked) I only fish inshore saltwater, marshes etc here on the MS Gulf Coast mainly targeting redfish, trout, flounder and sheeps but often get black drums while doing so. I’m looking to get maximum casting distance, so which would you recommend? Also thinking of pairing it with a 7’2” Bull Bay custom rod from Reel Animals, would you recommend the rod you have on your’s over this one? And lastly what type of line is that on the Stradic? I only use 10-15 # Power Pro on all my setups w/20# fluoro or mono leader and I’ve been searching for a reliable black or gray color for this kinda murky water we have here in the Biloxi area..
They will both cast the same as they have the same spools and both come with the new Long Stroke Spool. I would go with a 3000 size in Vanford if you are doing a lot of or mainly salt because of the Reinforced carbon interfusion body and rotor. For a rod, I like longer 7' to 7'6" medium and medium heavy spinning rods for the extra casting distance but if you are using 10-15lb power pro braid, the medium would honestly be plenty of rod as long as you're not casting oversized baits. Just look at the lure rating on the rods to know. I am a big fan of the Shimano Teramar rods and the E6X Inshore G. Loomis rods for that but in reality even freshwater rods that meet those specs would work great as I have used Zodias and Curado rods with great results. The line I have been using lost is the Power Pro Super 8 Slick V2 in Onyx. It does lighten a little but maintains a nice smoke/charcoal color.
I have both. While the Vanford is definitely an improvement in comparison to the overhyped Ci4+, the Stradic FL is a superior reel and it’s really not even close.
They are technically twins outside of the Ci4+ body and MGL Rotor. If you like lightweight presentations or fishing fluoro the Vanford is awesome but I agree that the Stradic FL is a monster of a reel.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors It’s no longer ‘Ci4+’, it’s a completely new composite material, which is specifically why Shimano no longer uses the designation. Outside of the cosmetic similarities, the Vanford is an entirely different reel.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors The new composite uses fewer electrons per carbon atom and now uses a 4th gen. rayon enriched polyacrylonitrile. So again, it’s an entirely different composite tech which is specifically why it’s not called the Vanford Ci4+.
I ordered a vanford, I got the 2500, in kinda debating on returning it to get a Stradic fl. I fish for lots of inshore fish like redfish and trout but also bass fish with it. I’m kinda liking the design and looks of the Stradic Fl also, what are your thoughts? I like the design and lightness of the vanford but I don’t throw lots of the same baits you talked about like drop shots. I’m more of a wacky rig type and swimbait type of guy.
The Vanford will be awesome and is amazing for Saltwater since the body is Carbon Interfusion (Ci4+). With either choice I don't think you will be disappointed.
The FL is definitely smoother and cleaner feeling than the Stradic Ci4+. The new Vanford is literally a Stradic Ci4+ with the new technology brought down from stella just like the FL Stradic. The only thing that changed is the name imo.

The Stradic 1000, 5:1.1 and shallow spool is the perfect of the two reels desceibe, You have to go overseas to get one at a reasonable price and much less than the Vanford. Doc 1/5 Cav RVN 69-70
I would go with the Stradic as snook are incredibly hard pulling fish and the extra rigidity from the all metal body will help. Go with a 5000 Stradic FL.
I'm just reading this in 2024 because, I am looking to get a Shimano reel to replace my 4-5 year old Daiwa BG 3000. I've used my friends Vanford but, I think a Stradic fits me better. I see there is a 2023 Stradic FM and a 2019 Stradic FL. I've looked and the 2023 version only sells for $10 more?! I would think the 2019 would be $50 or so less in 2024. What gives and, if the difference is only $10, get the FM? Thanks belatedly, if you even get this. LOL
There are several advantages to the Stradic FM and Shimano has, over the course of their history, always tried to improve products without increasing costs prohibitively. The Stradic FM has an improved main gear, drive train, drag washers and line management over the FL. It is beyond worth the $10! 😀
And why is the ci4 body better for salt? . Is the ci4 body easily banged up or is it as strong as the hagane body, also does the metal body make it bad for salt? Out of the 2 I want to get a 3000 in either but I'm scared that the plastic body may be weaker than the metal body and if you could choose which 3000 would you get for fresh water and occasional salt water
However if you are referring to the Stradic Ci4 then yes, Vanford is the new Stradic Ci4 under a new name. They wanted to separate the two brand names and give the Ci4 version it’s own identity.
I use everything from light rods to medium rods on most of my Spinning set ups. The 1000 and 2000 size Stradics and Vanfords get Light and Medium Light Zodias and Expride rods. The 2500 and 3000 get the medium spinning rods
They are working hard on shipping but can't seem to keep up to demand...which I guess is a good thing, but not so much for the consumer. The Covid supply chain interruptions really threw a wrench in a lot of areas.

Just picked up the Vanford 1000 and spooled with 4lb mono, looking for an all around trout and smaller fish set up, what rod would you pair with? Would a Zodias 7' light rod do the trick you think? The light rod says rated for 3/32 to 3/8oz lures, will I have any issues throwing 1/32 mini jigs? Looking for something to throw mini jigs & also worms with a bobber, etc.
The vanford just isn’t as smooth as the stradic and I think it’s due to the weight of the rotor possibly?, the vanfords’s all seem to have a very slight hiss when winding but the stradics are buttery smooth and quiet but having said that they are lighter! and for that reason I’m getting them all! Using the 500f casting 2-5” jerkshads on an hamachi nano stalker or one of my custom ultra light spin rod’s is an unfair advantage for flathead here in Australia, just a shame I had to import it!
The all metal body of Stradic gives it a better rotational feel but the start up inertia and weight of Vanford is why people chose it for specific techniques. Can’t really compare the two because of the weight and rotor differences. Internally they are twins (or were… since Stradic FM is now out )
Why do so many of you choose 3000 over 2500 for light, medium freshwater? The latter holds enough line even if one use FC/mono, too deep for braid, Regular 3000 just add to that.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors OK thanks! My 2500s have 6:1 and that does it for me, can't see any fish or tecniques for freshwater that needs faster than that. I guess it's in part a matter of taste like the T-handle, prefer I-handle all the way. If I'd pick a spinning reel for say pike, medium muskie, which I don't, (BC) I'd probably go 4000 and 5.3:1.
Really depends what you are fishing for... I always try to match the power of the rod to the size of the fish or size of the baits I'm throwing. Use the rod rating information printed on the blank to help you dial that in. If you can tell me what species and techniques you are using I can try to direct you a bit
I know this is late, but for primarily 4 inch senko fishing on a medium light mojo bass for pretty big largies would you recommend the 2500 or 2000 vanford. I already have a medium rod paired with a 2500 FL so I kinda wanna have a lighter set up. For a senko/small topwaters reel will that work or should I go with the 2500 again?

@@thehappycamper2908 I run the 1000 and 2000 size reels that have 7lbs of drag exclusively with 5lb Power Pro because of the drag. If you have a thicker gauge hook the drag can compromise your hook set effectiveness. That’s why I jump to the 2500 with 8 or 10 lb braid. Super8slick v2 8 lb is one of my favs.

I had my Vanford opened up a few min ago and when I saw the internals, its just the same as the Stradic FL which confirms my hunch that the Vanford is a Stradic FL on a Ci4 body.
Which 3000 would you recommend getting for fresh water and occasional salt water, and do the ci4 body perform as well as the metal body. And which would in your opinion last longer
@@space_cakesme personally the stradic FL is more robust and doesnt have a handle play compared to the Vanford. If you want an all around reel, the Stradic FL is the way to go. If you want to do finessee fishing then get the Vanford. Either ways you wont go wrong. Also something to consider is the Daiwa AL
I was a little disappointed the 3000 came with a carbon drag because I wanted the T handle. Felt drag is just so much better for light drag. Hopefully, If I do get the reel I don’t get the same rattling/thrashing noise that my ci4+ has. Sounds awful and had to send the reel in after one month of use and now the noise is happening again after a year.
Cross Carbon drag is really designed to dissipate heat better than felt for those harder running species. I agree the Felt drag is primo for lighter set ups
I honestly have zero experience with a Ballistic but from what I have experienced, the Vanford has handled everything from 6 lb smalmouth bass to 8 lb walleye on the 1000 size and plenty of panfish and largemouth to count so the 2500 will exceed your expectations for bass and bream!!!
i had 2 ballistic lt.. dont buy .. crap the fuego is cheaper and feels the same to fish with just for the fising feeling the ballistic isnt worth so much more.. i used almost every lt reel.. only one that feels gooooood is the freams... exceler crap ballistic over hyped garbage.. tried shimano and daiwa for many years.. still shimano makes better reels
Bass aren't the hardest pulling fish out there so extra line capacity isn't a concern. The only difference between the two is the extra 40 yards of 8lb test the 3000 will hold over the 2500 and the 3000 has the Cross Carbon drag which is best for hard running fish. The weights and size is the same so the choice is yours.

That is gonna be a sweet combo. I've been using the same setup, except i use a mojo yak for my inshore stuff. It works great.

Either will work but it depends on your wish list. Both spec out almost the same for features but the Vanford is lighter and has the MGL rotor. Not sure if that matters to you or not

For just about the same price why not just go Vanford?
Vanford is also perfect for small silicon lures and egging where you need a lightweight reel with good drag because you will do a lot of twitching for a long time. 2500 hg is perfect for those things.
What's the rod you put the vanford on? I bought Vanford 4000 and looking for a good rod that can match the reel... I know it doesn't matter, but I like it when it matches.
May be a little late for a question but if you'll give me in put I would appriciate it. I have had a few daiwa fuegos the last 2 years and I love them, especially for freshwater. Super light and definitely strong drag. I have been catching a lot more red drum the last few years and I noticed that with big fish, especially in the surf, they tend to flex under the load and I am having issues with the reels now. I'm also doing more fishing out in the waves with the real getting much more backsplash from my body. I go at it pretty hard but I don't dunk it. I think the stratic is definitely light enough to throw all day but do you think it will hold up better pulling in large reds and under a greater saltwater load? Would most likely go for the 3000 size. It's all about jigging for me. Thanks for any input, it's a confusing Market out there and I'm a little hesitant on daiwa after my experience with the Fuego. The strategic just seems to be the overall favorite over a ballistic or something else in the price range. If there's something else you would recommend have at it. Saltwater isn't easy on anything unfortunately but for me I would go with a reel that has X Protect if you get them well dosed with saltwater. A 3000 has 20 lbs of drag so any 3000 will work well for you... If you go with the Stradic, the aluminium body will help reduce any chance of flexing under load but if you want the best for what you are doing and don't mind the up in size reel I would go with the 5000 Saragosa SW!
i use my stradic ci4 + 2500 for everything. but steelhead river fishing. 5 to 10 lb bass. 30 to 40 inch pike. tons of perch and rock bass. Gar pike :) lake trout, fresh water drum, my last trip out 2 weeks ago i got 40 perch in 3 hrs. brought in 2 at a time some times. then fished for bass and got 35 bass in 2 hrs lol. (also just used a 1500 stradic for a few years too for all my fishing on a ultralight rod and 6lb line lol.

Both will work just fine, the Vanfords will be lighter, size for size so if a painful wrist is something you deal with, maybe go for the lighter option.
Hi JP, I fish for coho , pinks and chum salmon out here in BC. I usually throw spinners , spoons or twitch jigs. I’m looking to upgrade my reel. Do you think the Stratic would be the best choice ?
The Stradic FL will do a great job for sure. You're going to want a bit more size than we use with your bigger flows and stronger fish plus you guys tend to throw far heavier setups than we do in Ontario. I think if you look at Stradic FL 4000 or 5000 and Ultegra 4000 or 5000 you won't make a bad choice. Both are phenomenal, one will keep. A few pennies in your pocket! Choose the size that matches your main line pound test or diameter best and consider hard running fish bud.

Over a hundred stripers on the vanford, 25lb braid, lures/bait didn't matter. Big fish small fish. On an ugly Stik gx2. Medium heavy. I finesse and power fish with it. Love it's interchangeability and I fish it with my Penn Slammer. It sees salt, rocks, sand, weeds, seaweed, trees, big fish and small fish. I don't even want to try the stradic. No point. Pay the extra $20 or $30...it's worth it. Buying another one soon! 😁

16lb braid? If so, I would go up to at a minimum the 3000 but 4000 would be idea as you get 24 lbs of drag at this size and high gear ratio. What rod depends on the size of snapper you are targeting. A 7’ rod that is medium power to medium heavy will do well but remember that saltwater designed rods are heavier than freshwater designed rods. A saltwater medium is more powerful than a freshwater medium so please take that into account. Also, if you are fishing live bait it’s better to have a more moderate action but for artificials a fast action is more effective in a lot of instances.

@@Camh1968 A 16 lb snapper is no small feat... yes, the 20 lbs of drag would be plenty but I would at a minimum jump up to the 3000 size so you get the Cross Carbon drag washers. With snapper that size, personally I would prefer the 4000 or 5000 as there isn't much weight difference.

Either will work. If you are using. Fluoro or mono go 3000 for the extra line capacity. The drags are the same as are the internals

Hi Paul, I would go with a medium light spinning rod paired with the Vanford 2000 which can work for a bunch of different things. The extra line capacity on the 2000 over the 1000 is helpful in case you target bigger fish.

I honestly never maintain my reels. My Shimanos have been super reliable and the only time work needs to be done if if something bad happens like big drops or being stepped on. The Vanfords have been super solid. I have fished 1000, 2000, 2500 and 3000 for over a year now and no issues
What zodias rod u pair with your vanford ? light or medium light ?
I have been using the 7'6" L with the 2000 Vanford and the 7' L with the 1000. They will work with both Medium Light and Light

I can’t speak for the fl but my ci4+ has pulled up some hefty Bass with 6 lb fluorocarbon with zero signs of stress , The 1st gen of the Stradic ci4 did have some flex under load. I think it will be a while before I replace my current Stradic
Had the latest Vanford 4000 for about 4 months. Primary inshore white trout fishing. It's amazing. But what's really great is when i do hook a big red or whatever else happens to be there it handles them flawlessly as well. The smooth drag really shines on the bigger drum species.
I fish speckled trout and rainbows up to 3 lbs. Not sure whether to buy the stradic or the vanford. I want the 1000 and am not sure which one. Please help
Either are going to work really well for you.... The Vanford is lighter and has a lower start up inertia with he MGL rotor so if you are throwing really small and light baits then go with the Vanford!

Doesn’t the cross carbon drag start at the 3000 size Vanford? And what difference does it make? Been looking for a reel for finesse applications like drop shots and ned rigs etc.
Yes, 3000 and up have Cross Carbon from my understanding. The cross carbon material resists heat build up far better than felt on hard running fish but I find the felt drag start up to be a bit smoother when I'm fishing finesse lines.

@@officiaIdemon in the Vanford you can go with a 2000 for dropshot but the 2500 in either Vanford or Stradic are the best all around sizes for what you want to do. 20 lbs of available drag is more than enough but they still have high line pick up that you tend to lose when you drop down in spool size and diameter.

I’m about order and gift myself a new setup for Christmas and I was certain on the Stradic FL XG C3000 until I just ran across this video (Just subscribed & liked) I only fish inshore saltwater, marshes etc here on the MS Gulf Coast mainly targeting redfish, trout, flounder and sheeps but often get black drums while doing so. I’m looking to get maximum casting distance, so which would you recommend? Also thinking of pairing it with a 7’2” Bull Bay custom rod from Reel Animals, would you recommend the rod you have on your’s over this one? And lastly what type of line is that on the Stradic? I only use 10-15 # Power Pro on all my setups w/20# fluoro or mono leader and I’ve been searching for a reliable black or gray color for this kinda murky water we have here in the Biloxi area..
They will both cast the same as they have the same spools and both come with the new Long Stroke Spool. I would go with a 3000 size in Vanford if you are doing a lot of or mainly salt because of the Reinforced carbon interfusion body and rotor. For a rod, I like longer 7' to 7'6" medium and medium heavy spinning rods for the extra casting distance but if you are using 10-15lb power pro braid, the medium would honestly be plenty of rod as long as you're not casting oversized baits. Just look at the lure rating on the rods to know. I am a big fan of the Shimano Teramar rods and the E6X Inshore G. Loomis rods for that but in reality even freshwater rods that meet those specs would work great as I have used Zodias and Curado rods with great results. The line I have been using lost is the Power Pro Super 8 Slick V2 in Onyx. It does lighten a little but maintains a nice smoke/charcoal color.
I have both. While the Vanford is definitely an improvement in comparison to the overhyped Ci4+, the Stradic FL is a superior reel and it’s really not even close.
They are technically twins outside of the Ci4+ body and MGL Rotor. If you like lightweight presentations or fishing fluoro the Vanford is awesome but I agree that the Stradic FL is a monster of a reel.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors It’s no longer ‘Ci4+’, it’s a completely new composite material, which is specifically why Shimano no longer uses the designation. Outside of the cosmetic similarities, the Vanford is an entirely different reel.

I ordered a vanford, I got the 2500, in kinda debating on returning it to get a Stradic fl. I fish for lots of inshore fish like redfish and trout but also bass fish with it. I’m kinda liking the design and looks of the Stradic Fl also, what are your thoughts? I like the design and lightness of the vanford but I don’t throw lots of the same baits you talked about like drop shots. I’m more of a wacky rig type and swimbait type of guy.
The Vanford will be awesome and is amazing for Saltwater since the body is Carbon Interfusion (Ci4+). With either choice I don't think you will be disappointed.
The FL is definitely smoother and cleaner feeling than the Stradic Ci4+. The new Vanford is literally a Stradic Ci4+ with the new technology brought down from stella just like the FL Stradic. The only thing that changed is the name imo.
So you would say get a FL instead of the Vanford? I do have the feeling the FL will feel more premium as well.

The Stradic 1000, 5:1.1 and shallow spool is the perfect of the two reels desceibe, You have to go overseas to get one at a reasonable price and much less than the Vanford.

I would go with the Stradic as snook are incredibly hard pulling fish and the extra rigidity from the all metal body will help. Go with a 5000 Stradic FL.
I have both and I like both of them. Stradic FL 5000 for Dialua 100MH and Vanford for Labrax 930mh. Both of them running perfect

I'm just reading this in 2024 because, I am looking to get a Shimano reel to replace my 4-5 year old Daiwa BG 3000. I've used my friends Vanford but, I think a Stradic fits me better. I see there is a 2023 Stradic FM and a 2019 Stradic FL. I've looked and the 2023 version only sells for $10 more?! I would think the 2019 would be $50 or so less in 2024. What gives and, if the difference is only $10, get the FM? Thanks belatedly, if you even get this. LOL
There are several advantages to the Stradic FM and Shimano has, over the course of their history, always tried to improve products without increasing costs prohibitively. The Stradic FM has an improved main gear, drive train, drag washers and line management over the FL. It is beyond worth the $10! 😀

No, Vanford is the Magnumlite version of Stradic. Stradic is considered part of the Coresolid family.
However if you are referring to the Stradic Ci4 then yes, Vanford is the new Stradic Ci4 under a new name. They wanted to separate the two brand names and give the Ci4 version it’s own identity.

If you’re targeting bigger strippers I would lean to the Stradic FL or better yet a saltwater designed reel like the Saragosa SW or Spheros SW

I use everything from light rods to medium rods on most of my Spinning set ups. The 1000 and 2000 size Stradics and Vanfords get Light and Medium Light Zodias and Expride rods. The 2500 and 3000 get the medium spinning rods

Just picked up the Vanford 1000 and spooled with 4lb mono, looking for an all around trout and smaller fish set up, what rod would you pair with? Would a Zodias 7' light rod do the trick you think? The light rod says rated for 3/32 to 3/8oz lures, will I have any issues throwing 1/32 mini jigs? Looking for something to throw mini jigs & also worms with a bobber, etc.

The vanford just isn’t as smooth as the stradic and I think it’s due to the weight of the rotor possibly?, the vanfords’s all seem to have a very slight hiss when winding but the stradics are buttery smooth and quiet but having said that they are lighter! and for that reason I’m getting them all! Using the 500f casting 2-5” jerkshads on an hamachi nano stalker or one of my custom ultra light spin rod’s is an unfair advantage for flathead here in Australia, just a shame I had to import it!
The all metal body of Stradic gives it a better rotational feel but the start up inertia and weight of Vanford is why people chose it for specific techniques. Can’t really compare the two because of the weight and rotor differences. Internally they are twins (or were… since Stradic FM is now out )
Every single Vanford I've picked up has a wobbly handle and sounds dry as a bone.

Why do so many of you choose 3000 over 2500 for light, medium freshwater? The latter holds enough line even if one use FC/mono, too deep for braid, Regular 3000 just add to that.
Two reasons, 3000 reels typically have a faster gear ratio than 2500 size and the T handle.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors OK thanks! My 2500s have 6:1 and that does it for me, can't see any fish or tecniques for freshwater that needs faster than that. I guess it's in part a matter of taste like the T-handle, prefer I-handle all the way. If I'd pick a spinning reel for say pike, medium muskie, which I don't, (BC) I'd probably go 4000 and 5.3:1.

Really depends what you are fishing for... I always try to match the power of the rod to the size of the fish or size of the baits I'm throwing. I know this is late, but for primarily 4 inch senko fishing on a medium light mojo bass for pretty big largies would you recommend the 2500 or 2000 vanford. I already have a medium rod paired with a 2500 FL so I kinda wanna have a lighter set up. For a senko/small topwaters reel will that work or should I go with the 2500 again?
I would go to the 2500 for the drag. 20lb drag versus 7 lb drag on the 2000

@@thehappycamper2908 I run the 1000 and 2000 size reels that have 7lbs of drag exclusively with 5lb Power Pro because of the drag. If you have a thicker gauge hook the drag can compromise your hook set effectiveness. That’s why I jump to the 2500 with 8 or 10 lb braid. Super8slick v2 8 lb is one of my favs.

I had my Vanford opened up a few min ago and when I saw the internals, its just the same as the Stradic FL which confirms my hunch that the Vanford is a Stradic FL on a Ci4 body.
Plus it has the MGL rotor

If you want an all around reel, the Stradic FL is the way to go. If you want to do finessee fishing then get the Vanford.

I was a little disappointed the 3000 came with a carbon drag because I wanted the T handle. Felt drag is just so much better for light drag. Hopefully, If I do get the reel I don’t get the same rattling/thrashing noise that my ci4+ has. Sounds awful and had to send the reel in after one month of use and now the noise is happening again after a year.
Cross Carbon drag is really designed to dissipate heat better than felt for those harder running species. I agree the Felt drag is primo for lighter set ups
You could always get the 2500 and order a 3000 handle (I know on the FK the knob was removeable so you would only need the knob not the handle).

I honestly have zero experience with a Ballistic but from what I have experienced, the Vanford has handled everything from 6 lb smalmouth bass to 8 lb walleye on the 1000 size and plenty of panfish and largemouth to count so the 2500 will exceed your expectations for bass and bream!!!
i had 2 ballistic lt.. dont buy .. crap the fuego is cheaper and feels the same to fish with just for the fising feeling the ballistic isnt worth so much more.. i used almost every lt reel.. only one that feels gooooood is the freams... exceler crap ballistic over hyped garbage.. tried shimano and daiwa for many years.. still shimano makes better reels

The biggest differences are overall weight and start up inertia. The specs on tech features are practically identical.

Bass aren't the hardest pulling fish out there so extra line capacity isn't a concern. The only difference between the two is the extra 40 yards of 8lb test the 3000 will hold over the 2500 and the 3000 has the Cross Carbon drag which is best for hard running fish. The weights and size is the same so the choice is yours.
