Honestly I prefer the FL on my med expride because of the weight. It feels super light but the reel itself is slightly heavier and throwing a small senko at Clearlake feels right. I do enjoy my vanford but it's on a 7' light zodias (2020) and it's so dam light when I'm dropshotting it feels like it's gonna break haha. It's like holding a feather 🪶. I think both are absolutely great for the price and if you don't mind a little extra weight the FL is perfect too.
The ONLY reason why I’m picking up the fl over the vanford is I have SO many black and red reels 😂 wish companies would start making multiple colors of reels
My friend gave me a free Stradic ci4 2500 today, lucky me! He said it broke in half when he was fighting a fish and its been sitting for 4 years. The spool arbor came loose and just needed tightened! What a Googan he is!
I Have Both a Stadic FL C3000 In 5.3 and a Vanford in 2500HG. I’d say spin and listen to both and try on a rod to see which balances better for you. The VANFORD is noisier then the stradic fl. And feels smoother.
@@micah1659 I’m sure you can do it, man. Search google for an exploded view of the reel and take your time. Usually with spinning reels, you take the spool off first, then the nut off the spool shaft (be careful as some of these nuts are right hand thread), and last are screws that hold the side of the frame on.
Like the video, but honestly I’ve a shimano fanboy just like a lot of people and in my opinion, the FL was suppose to replace the older FK and when you compare those two,the FL is is a huge improvement. For the Vanford replaces the older (19) ci4. Honestly just get a reel that fits your fishing, haven’t had my hands on the vanford since I wasn’t a fan of the (19) ci4,I’ve got the older stradic FA and those are beasts, light, smaller profile, buttery smooth. However I used the FL for heavy duty topwater fishing (striper) 5000 and it holds up like a charm.
I've been watching some reviews about the Vanford, got it today but I found it noisy, also the handle is wobbling. My old CI4+ doesn't have either, did I got a faulty one?
I agree with that. I’ve mentioned before that I didn’t think they could make a reel any better than the Stradic CI4+ for the price point, but they have.
But which really casts further using the same rod, same line, same weight? The FL says it's an Aero wind which enables it to cast further but the Vanford uses a longer spool with a some sort of special lip that makes it cast further.
I own both reels and to be honest I like the Stradic FL better compared to the Vanford. The weight difference is negligible plus the Stradic FL feels more solid due to its body being Aluminum. As for the casting distance they are the same
@@bestthingsinceslicedrice Now the more I read about casting distance the more I find out that Daiwa has the best casting performance of any reel on the market. So now I'm kind of leaning toward the Daiwa SS Tournament.
@@Rekmeyata i was going to mention actually that the Daiwa Certate LT actually cast better compared to the Vanford and Stradic FL. But i held back since I didnt want to sound like a Daiwa Fanboy when I both love Shimano and Daiwa. So I can understand why you are leaning towards the Daiwa SS
@@bestthingsinceslicedrice Thank you for verifying what I've been reading. I don't think you should hold back your thoughts on stuff like this, if you have a recommendation to speak it out. You say you don't want sound like a Daiwa fanboy but yet that's exactly what all these pro Shimano people sound like especially since no one here on this video comment section mentioned any other reel, just Shimano. I have nothing against Shimano, I'm just trying to find the best reel for the money regardless of brand. Besides, I own several bikes, and about 8/10ths of them use Shimano components, the others I have use Suntour which is no longer in business sadly, but for bike components they do make a nice component package, while Campagnolo is better but they cost a lot more and it's more difficult to find parts for them. But between Shimano and Daiwa the price is darn close to being the same, if Daiwa was a lot more expensive then I would go with Shimano.
@@Rekmeyata if you want good price to performance and dont care about weight heck even the lowly Daiwa BG is a good buy. Its buttery smooth and you dont have to deal with Magseal which is one of the downsides, since Daiwa doesnt sell the magseal to the public and have to settle with an aftermarket Ferrofluid if you want to service the reel yourself. Another downside is If you buy their monocoque reels (Exsist, Certate, Luvias, Daiwa BG MQ & Caldia MQ) you need the special side plate socket so you can open the reel. But other than that I find the Daiwa reels to be smoother and more refined since they dont use worm gears. Would you feel the difference when youre out there fishing? In my end I can say yes hence why I use my Certate more than my Shimano reels. Of course by the end of the day, theres no perfect reel out there since each has its own quirks, like driving a car. So hopefully hat helps you narrow down your decision on which one to get
Hi there in terms of sturdiness of the reel and rigid feeling while reeling the handle what reel is better. Im not sure i can get both reela at the same price now but i dont know if a litle bit less weight is better over sturdiness and tough rigid. What i mean is i dont care about the weight , because lets face it both ate very light weight reels i want the strong one, what reel a should choose?????
I agree with you. I’ve had the opportunity to fish the Exsense and the Stella. They are superb, but I can’t muster up the house payment to buy them lol.
I walleye fish as well and I cast wormharnesses and jig with hair jigs in Lake erie and I am not sure which to buy. Can you give me a suggestion or advice?
I don't fish Mono on them, so I couldn't be any help here. I spool straight braid to fluorocarbon line on my spinning reels. I use Sun Line exclusively for the Fluoro.
Man I couldn't find a vanford for the life of me for a reasonable price online and in stores. 2 different Bass pros didn't have it or the stradic or a daiwa tatula or anything halfway what I wanted. Crazy times. Ended up paying slightly too much for a stradic ci4+ off ebay. Yay me
Right now the supply chain is messed up royally. I have had a Vanford on order since October. They are impossible to get. I was lucky enough to get a phone call from my local tackle shop the day they came in. That's how I scored this one. After the Vanford, my favorite reel I own is the Stradic Ci4. you will not be disappointed in your purchase.
I like it a lot. I’ve been fishing the Poison Adrena rod series for a year now and I love the carbon butt section. The addition of it on the zodias now makes it a totally new rod. I may replace my old zodias with them this year if I can muster up the cash.
It would be interesting to see the sales stats on the Vanford and what effect its name has. I'm sure calling it the Stradic Ci4+ SWB or C would be better😀 I don't mean any disrepect to anyone named Vanford though🙂
I’m not sure what you mean here. Both of these reels are fairly new to the market. The Stradic FL isn’t the same reel as the older Stradic CI4+ if that’s what you’re referring to.
Cross carbon drag washers are NOT in the Vanford until you bump up to the 4000. Your 500-3000 bodies will come stock with the mushy cushy felt drag washers and you can upgrade to carbon. It’s too bad Shimano skimped on the drag washers on the most popular sized reels. They saving a couple cents per reel and using smoke and mirrors on marketing! Boooo!!!
I have 2 Vanford 2500s. I've caught hundreds of fish. Still smooth
currently going striper fishing on one of NCs coastal rivers. Its a blast
Thanks as you have both, just bought the Vanford, great review quick to the point and explained everything.

Im looking to use one of these for, fluke from shore, black fish off the boat and steal head salmon which do you think is best for those fish
I’d look at the stradic for those for sure. It’ll hold up a little better for bigger fish.
