Civilization V Leader | Oda Nobunaga of Japan

- Опубліковано 13 тра 2012
- Oda Nobunaga (1534 - 1582 AD) was a 16th century Japanese warlord. Both a brilliant general and a cunning politician - as well as an early adopter of new technology - Nobunaga fought and backstabbed his way to domination over nearly half of feudal Japan. His two lieutenants, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu, would complete the job after his death, reunifying Japan for the first time in over a century.

Windows XP's background
What's funny about their choosing Nobunaga, given the Samurai special unit, is that he was specifically successful because he armed peasants with muskets rather than sticking to tradition. That is one of the key reasons he was so successful.

I'm surprised he didn't pull out ANY of his swords when you declare war on him.
Samurai never unsheath swords for menacing but only for "using" them.
When you see their sword its only for a second then you'll see...nothing more.
That’s a really cool fact.
I didn’t see Oda unsheathe his sword though
Goodness that's such a weeaboo take, ahahahha
I love how the devs made him carry his Katana and Wakizashi in the wrong way. The blade should point upwards, not down. A legendary Samurai who doesn't wear his swords correctly.
they got lazy as hell with this background. could have been a lot better for feudal era Japan
Fuji Mountain? ._.
Acr2051 Windows XP background
Mongolian gers in steppes are just fine
And they could've added a large mushroom cloud, a destroyed city, and human body's with the skin melted off in atomic japan.
But seriously, at least adding Himeji Castle in the background would've been much better.
I don't know why but japanese always sounds soothing but has its own rhythm in it It's like every sentences are not just a combination of words but poem
Yeah it’s the coolest sounding language
Amazing graphics!
Oda Nobunaga live in the windows xp bliss
I love how his war theme is a defeat theme
i like the music transition
I was playing on deity last night. I always struggle with science but I got HG so I was pumped for all the growth. I only had two neighbors: Darius and Oda. Oda and I had made two declarations of friendship and I wasn't too worried about Darius because he almost always proves to be a loyal ally to me. I notice a couple Japanese swordsmen but I disregard them. And then Oda backstabbed me. I had a single spearman (facepalm) against an entire siege force. And it looks like he's going to take my second city. The moral of the story is to never trust this SOB.
Lord Bandwagon Yeah, this guy was in Friendly status to me. And then... he declared war, for no absolute fucking reason! Then he sent his forces in and i had only few units against his army. The thing is, he never got inside my land and i held him off until he fell back and wanted to make peace :D
Shouldn't Nobunaga be a bit more eccentric?
given what he did, he should be more violent and aggresive, at least once you provoque him
historically yes but in this game nope
@@Rythmguitarable Indeed. He feels like a generic daimyo character here.
Which he wasn't.
The guy was a giant weirdo maverick who loved flashy stuff and going outside the box.
He should've been in Civ6 as well
maybe as dlc or Frontier Pass dlc

Why does everyone prefer Meiji to Nobunaga? Meiji was a tyrant who wanted to destroy Japan's culture and also failed at invading china. Nobunaga was the famous samurai ever and ended the most important war in Japan's history.
Temujin Meiji saves Japan from being conquered or falling to the same fate as China. He never destroyed Japanese culture. He integrated it with the culture of the west. And Meiji did conquer Korea and won the Sino-Japanese war. Taking parts of China. Nobunaga was also a huge tyrant. Quite known for his ruthlessness and rarely ever tried to unite the country with anything but war. There’s a story about a monk who went around Japan and asked 3 Daimyo what to do if the birds stopped singing, one said kill them all, one said make them sing, and another said wait for them to sing. Guess who said to kill them all? Nobunaga. So even if you do classify Meiji as a tyrant. Nobunaga was definitely equal, if not worse
@@kaijuslayer3334 I agree. I've watched a Netflix Original: "Age of Samurai: Battle of Japan"; based on how I watched it, it gave me an informative background on Nobunaga and his campaigns during his conquest of Central Japan. It's true that Nobunaga has done things that are very much brutal and unforgiving, despite his prosperous achievements in conquering his foes.
He, in no doubt, conquered his enemies and gained control of Central Japan, and absolutely, he was the first person to acquire the arquebus, which no other daimyo was to ever obtain. He was, indeed, a formidable ruler with a powerful weapon; however, that sheer weapon that brought life to his successes caused unease to the people, especially to his closest generals. From what I watched in the documentary, it was stated that Nobunaga sought the destruction of the Buddhist monks for opposing him, so with his power, he brought them to shame-no mercy as he reckoned. He slaughtered what's left of that monastery, whether those who wish not to partake in the cause-be it men, women, the elderly, or children. In some accounts from the historians, it was been said that a peasant's daughter has been beheaded; even the Nobunaga has been able to witness it all as he sat down and gave out his command. Due to this act of tyranny, neighboring fiefs have opposed to his rule. Indeed, he is powerful, but his warmongering motives brought more opposition to his rule as many families resorted to guerilla warfare.
Personally, I could see this as something unconstitutional, those perks of a tyrant. But admirably, his successes won't be forgotten, as well as his dysphoric background that brought him to it.
@@paradoxine6287 That show is pretty bad. Search up anything about it on UA-cam. And you’ll see people tear into it due to its huge inaccuracies.
@@kaijuslayer3334, I might be wrong due to those circumstances, but that's based on how I saw it. According to the reviews, most people criticise that it because it's mostly based from an eurocentric point of view. Thank you for pointing that out.
Yeah apparently Japan was very isolated. So USA sorta was like, if you dont open to trade with us, we will invade you. So they sent students to Europe, came back and modernized and industrialized Japan. Kinda interesting. Also religious freedom was increased during Meiji era too.
@TheTranceCartel Actually, "onegaishimasuru" is Old Japanese. This phrase hasn't been used since the Edo Period in Japan.
Thunder 230MPH Well. He was around before the Edo period so
Man! That's quite a large sword (sword on hip) Oda has! I suppose each warrior had their swords custom-made to match their height?
Seth Guest Probably an Oodachi? These swords were used for fighting on horseback.
Rumia Scarlet
If that's an odachi, then it shouldn't be on his hip, samurai often strapped these swords on their backs as they were far too heavy to be carried at their side. Also, yes, they were only really good as weapons for mounted warriors, not so much for foot soldiers as they were nearly impossible to draw properly due to their size when needed. In fact, I have just now noticed that Oda has another sword on his back, so the one at his side should have been there as well.
as edgy as it sounds , every sword has its purpose
The goat
Would be funny if he was in his "sengoku basara demon king outfit"
+enderlord alatreon Can you kill him in that game?
+Ianus Yes, but not without difficulty.
I prefer his Samurai Warrior outfit
@@kasikasivendjinn5345
That outfit is also pretty cool. Perhaps even cooler.
the third sword is a suicide sword (in case you conquer him)
I love bliss
I guess I am not enough strong for this great samurai XD
Good use of historic Japanese by the voice actor but the Kyoto dialect would have been much closer to what the Samurai used as many were from that region.
devs should use cherry blossom background for Japan
With the new expansion 43, i think.
Ohoh sochika
It is dishonorbru to fight an unarmed enemy (so I guess he would need to draw his sword if he was DoWed by Shaka, Kamehameha, Boudicca, Askia, or Gajah Mada).
Three giant swords and he doesn't unsheathe none when the war is declared
Can anyone translate what he actually says rather than what the onscreen text implies he says, please?
With my shit Japanese skills, I understood that he says "You pathetic, foolish man! I am going to (something something fight)" when you DoW him.
Yeah, my Japanese is not very good. But I tried. It's the best one can get from just watching anime.
I appreciate it, thanks!
it's probably "You pathetic, foolish man! I am going to take revenge for this!"
(again, with a shit japanese skills from anime)
i'll try a bit though.
basically it means:
Greeting: "(coming from a long way?)... it is important to greet them, and to build a (prosper?)and longlasting friendship and wished it from the deepest heart.
"Susume yo" = continue/go on
"Yokarou" = okay (affirmation)
"Izure mata no kikai(?)" = Ask me another time / Try again later
"Chanto kitte oru" = I am listening (or "are you listening" if Nobunaga's asking a question)

Background looks like windows xp
Needs more swords.

Hmm.. why the best always get killed by their men? Julius Caesar, Oda ... just to name some..
Alexander too, most people think he was poisoned
Disproportionate sword
It was out yesterday in North America, 12 July for the rest of the world.
I would have picked the Meiji Emperor for Japan, but that's just me.
😊😊😊😊
I think Emperor Meiji or Tokugawa Ieyasu would have been a better choice than Nobunaga...
To other east asian country, emperor Meiji was bad guy.
To everyone in Japan, Oda Nobunaga was a bad guy (I should know because I apparently a direct descendant, and my family denied it vehemently until the completed geneology confirmed it).
Actually, Oda Nobunaga was a great choice.
TheKalihiMan Given how he’s classified as one of the founders of a unified Japan. I doubt that claim a little
@@kaijuslayer3334 He's pretty infamous, he murdered a lot of buddhists after all, and is generally vilified in Japanese culture as a result of that.
Why an earth does he have 3 Katanas?
I guess the small one is wakizashi(I forgot how it's spelled).
I know that there are two katanas held by a samurai. One would be for the battlefield, of course; the last one, which is the smaller one, is for suicide or seppuku.
He uses the giant one, which I think is a nodachi, for decapitating your horse like The Mountain in GoT, than you with his katana, and finally; the wakizashi is for the seppuku.
Boss
I would have picked Tokugawa Ieyasu!

Isn't that flower the symbol of Korea, not Japan?
It is not the actual state symbol of Japan as a *country*, that would be the *chrysanthemum*. And that flower looks more like *hibiscus*, which is the symbol of Korea.
Nah, that's Oda Clan emblem.
Imperios I agree. As I'm korean, the symbol looks like 오얏flower of Gwangmu Korean empire, where is successor country of Joseon dynasty.
Asadal Kim Didn't the Korean Empire use an eagle symbol, similar to that of the Russian Empire?
안녕하세요 로시야애소, by the way. Hello from the Korean diaspora in Russia, the 고료인
Imperios 아, 고려인이시군요! 반갑습니다:)
здравствуйте, я люблю русская история и арт!
I think symbol of empire were many. that eagle symbol was may influenced by Russian Romanov empire. I carefully suppose eagle symbol was one of the emperor family's symbols... not entire empire
+ The hibiscus symbol(Korean:무궁화꽃) is nowdays Republic Korea's symbol. The Korean empire's official symbol which I mention was plumtree flower(오얏꽃).
by the way, disigners of civ5 must intend sakura, not Korean flower.
