I've had the opportunity to train at the Francis Fong academy. This was many many years ago and he actually had two schools in the Atlanta area. But I have also taken numerous seminars and I will tell you that I've seen Sifu Francis Fong wearing a white belt at a BJJ seminar hosted by John Jacques Machado. He also has various instructors come in for Thai boxing and of course Dan Inasanto and the Filipino martial arts. I say this because he is well aware of the different arts and the different ranges. In my humble opinion I also think that the trapping techniques of Wing Chun can definitely work in a real situation but I can also see where some people may feel that it doesn't have that much practicality. I would say learn some and decide for yourself.

If you want to learn Wing Chun than learn Wing Chun. At this point numerous real life encounters filmed and available to the public more than anytime in history, if you have to wonder or discuss wether an art works or not should be an indication you should probably look elsewhere. No disrespect to any art but reality is reality and art is art.

People dump on wing chun because its not street fighting; its not supposed to be, one quick chop combo to the throat and confrontation over.

It is street fighting. They dump on it because it’s not ring fighting. And they’ve never worked with someone like Fong.

@@williamsmith8790it’s mostly because a lot of people don’t understand that traditional martial arts are mostly about concepts. Fights in real life don’t look like a Jackie Chan coreography or a Kung Fu form. It’s all about how good you are at applying the concepts in a real life confrontation. Sadly most people expect Kung fu to look cinematic and dismiss it as bs because “if it doesn’t look like Kung fu it can’t be Kung fu”, lol.

As a young Army Soldier in an elite unit, competitive boxer, undefeated grappler, only one Wing Tsun master ever shut me down and made me feel helpless.
Keith Fain sifu of Clarksville TN.
A humble, unassuming, but powerful master. He uproots you with chigerk while breaching your limbs with camming, trapping , and then you see floor & ceiling ending up on your back unable to breath.
He's elderly now but still teaches in Clarksville TN.

What everyone commenting should understand is that Francis Fongs school teaches Muay Thai, BJJ and submission wrestling so his guys have the ability to have a solid combative base which then amplifies aspects of his wing chin. This guy learned from Chai Siristute…..he’s a Muay Thai guy as well.

Well, the kicks are telegraphing... Should have twice as much more front snap-kicks (without telegraphing, simply raise the knee and snap the foot: target groin to face). This can be done backing-up too. With this, your opponent wouldn't have a closing chance. This is what the martial arts forgot about.😊

Never works on d streets. Only in d class room. Streets fights r raw power speed & aggression. Like fights in a hockey game. U don't know or control what's coming where when how. In these class room demo w compliant students who don't fight back @ in slo mo, everything works. I can perform somev mpressive miracles in d class room. Streets & combat r different. I aim to take out or kill. Not d same intent in d classroom.
WC is mostly stand up upper body attack & defense. That's why Fong went to d machados to supplement what was missing . There r simpler methods of entry/bridging in WC. Many masters don't even seem to know them. That's too complicated to work in a real fight.
U can control d hand & other body parts. He doesn't seem to know. Moving in with d body also won't work in a dynamic/changing fight. U xan win easily if u keep everything simple. Nice for study but will never get used. U will use d simple stuff to win. They r d most efficient, natural & effective.
