D'Vorah, who gets less and less screen time these days than she has popular character kills? Frost, whose character got further and further torn down by NRS? Kronika, who is even more of a godmodder than Shao?

It's okay, Kotal wanting to genocide the Tarkatans was totally F O R E S H A D O W E D over the past seven *(7)* seasons.
That’s the thing about MK Lore. It went from being a story of sanctioned battles to basically anyone being able to do anything they want. As much as I loved MK9, there is absolutely no fucking way anyone would conclude, based on Armageddons intro sequence, that shao khan would have killed onaga. This timeline reset garbage has always been a fucking scam and the only lore I’m interested in at this point are these savage videos.
Also Liu Kang without an eye who was dead for years somehow survived(if you can call it surviving) the battle too, according to the wiki

Its certainly thematically appropriate for Kitana to kill Shao Kahn but she had no character arc so its a very hollow victory. Plus he was severely nerfed.
Also, I'm pretty sure Shao Kahn is still breathing when Kitana walks away.
It would've been make sense if she wasn't the one who defeated him but instead it was combined might of Raiden, Liu Kang, and Kung Lao (very appropriate for Kung Lao since it means he got a chance to avenge himself) and then Kitana would be the one to do the finishing blow.
It’s fine if we see her grow and become that strong, but we never really saw that, it just came out of nowhere. I mean, we know she didn’t kill him now, but still.
Aftermath : He sucks even more and gets his head chopped off. His followers team up with Shao Kahn

What’s more insulting is the fact that the people who immediately joined Shao Kahn and Sindel right after seeing his own decapitated head were all part of Kotal’s newly rebuilt Osh-Tekk army. Since, you know, MKX establishes that he was the last remaining of his kind. So basically, he rebuilds his army only to have them join his enemies right after he dies. Poor guy just can’t catch a break from Netherrealm’s godawful writers.

While I agree, Kitana defeating Shao Khan is still less absurd in my eyes than Cassie Cage, a newcomer, defeating Shinnok because of "ancient powers" Johnny Cage was never able to make good use of his entire career in MK.
Do be reminded that those powers are literally designed as an Elder God Kryptonite to begin with
No Cassie makes complete sense. It was established that the power activates when someone they love is in danger and her powers are literally meant to defeat elder gods

Now keep in mind while shao khan did get blazes power he had to kill most of everyone before he got it so he did kill Onaga and most of everyone else (this is for those who will state that he had blazes power)
Shao Kahn is supposed to be extremely powerful and could go against Raiden, an actual God, and Liu Kang, some "Chosen One" guy who trained his entire life to perfect his kombat skills and was probably gifted by the Elder Gods themselves. And on top of that, Liu Kang's source power(Dragon Fire) was hinted to be related to Onaga in one of Liu Kang vs Cetrion intros in MK11, which even tho it was never mentioned before, it could actually be a good plot twist to explain why Liu Kang is so OP despict being... a human.
Im also not sure about Shao Kahn beating Onaga as it took Raiden, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi to even stand a chance against The Dragon King before that.

Shao Kahn struggles against Raiden and is beaten by Liu Kang but at the same time.
Liu Kang gets beaten by Raiden.
Raiden couldnt beat Onaga, even with the help of two of the most powerful sorcerers.
I cant remember if Onaga was in a weak state(I vaguely remember something about Reptile... uh, kinda hard to remember honestly) but still... Like, Idk... Midway/NRS with their character's power level logic

I'm glad somebody finally pointed out how ludicrous it was for Kitano to beat Shao Kahn. Then again the mk developers have been really inconsistent with their character power levels, cause the deadly alliance (Shang Tsung and Quan Chi) beat all of earth realms heroes including Raiden, but lose in Mk9 to Kung Lao who was among the kombatants they beat in deadly alliance.
MK9 is when the new staff took over the franchise.

Why didn’t they use reptile in the story I will never know. One of the most important characters in mortal kombat history is just never mentioned. There Couldve been a character arc where he could’ve helped kronika so he can get his race back because her time powers. Have it been like a redeemable villain. Maybe his past version couldve been a time where reptile still had his race and he learns of his future or something relating to the old timeline of how his body was used to become Onaga. How he really wants his race back and has to do a bunch of terrible deeds under the belief that he’ll get his race back. The moment he finds out that kronika lies to him could have been such a powerful moment. It could have been a really compelling story for a character. Ermac could have been written as a helper of kronika and maybe kill him off to power the hourglass since Hes made out of souls. Ferra/tor uhh. Kinda pointless.

Kotal Kahn.....a great character brought low. Despite the execution of petty thieves, Kotal had allowed those who served him a great deal of respect. He let Reptile do what he does best rather than send him out to be bodied, or treat him like a mindless jobber. And his reason for taking the throne was because Mileena was insane, and Outworld deserved better. He was pretty damned reasonable. But he had his low points....oh god his low points. For example, claiming Outworld was not allowed to protect the Amulet of Shinnok, when while in the comics, Kotal said that others in Outworld would come for it, so he himself felt that the Amulet was safer on Earthrealm. Also, how the hell did he lose to Kung Jin? The same man who defeated Kano, Tanya, Rain, and Mileena in a single day. It honestly would have made more sense if Johnny Cage was with the Kombat Kids, and beat Kotal due to him being a veteran fighter, and probably mastering the green glow by then....f&$@ing chapters....His high points in MKX for me was when he decided to protect the Amulet himself after Mileena's execution due to his rule being solidified, and Earthrealm losing the amulet....to Kano of all people. He had no intention of killing the Kombat Kids, he just was going to trade pretty much the Amulet with Kids as a trade. But yeah...11 was where he started to fall. I can buy the relationship between Jade and Kotal, but by the Elder Gods, at least do a flashback moment of how they met. I am thinking, Jade was sent to kill Kotal by Shao Kahn. This leads to a fight like when Liu Kang fought Kitana. Kotal spares Jade, as he felt the Osh Tekk and the Edenians shared the pain of losing their worlds to Shao Kahn, and he might have had a crush on her. He would hope to meet Jade again, under better circumstances. This would lead to his captivity to the Flesh Pits by Shang Tsung, and Kotal's blood being used as part of the ingredients to create Skarlet, mixed with Kitana's own blood, making Skarlet an Osh Tekk Edenian hybrid. But sadly, my respect for the character went down...much like his head.

Kotal is my favourite MK character, but I would never expect him to beat Shao Kahn cos that's how it should be. Canonically Shao imprisoned him cos sure, he's a beef cake, but also cos he had a lot of growing influence among other Outworld characters like Reptile, Ermac and so on. At best, in a 1 v 1 I'd hope to see Shao even just a little taxed after taking Kotal down after the use of blood magic. But like most MK storylines, outworlders and villains are just jobbers to the special forces and other heart-o'-gold characters, despite NRS saying they have superhuman strength and magical abilities. But this rant went too long lol, great vid, they did the Kahns dirty
They at least could've made an epic fight between kotal and shao, with kotal abusing all of his blood magic stuff, which is only mentioned in the comics and every single dialoge but he still never uses it. So it could ve ended with both wounded really hard but shao with the upper hand and then the others come and help kk.

Yeah, considering that in raw strength, Goro beats all outworld characters, Kotal with blood magic and sunlight would have made for a convincing win. And his subsequent loss could have been justified as being due to getting poisoned and starved in imprisonment. But they made Kotal win, which was unconvincing, and then he lost which was also unconvincing.
I mean, if Goro doesn't wanna fight Kotal in direct sunlight, then it means the strength boost must be significant. Shao should have defeated him in the night, 2hich would be amazing
